What happened to the Italians on the eastern front?

Well, the Italians had over 200,000 on the Russian front so I would ask, what exactly happened to them?

Did they return to Italy or did they keep fighting until the end?

Doesn't really say anything about what happened after fall 1943, but i guess they were disarmed and sent back to Italy by the germans...

Edit: Just found another link that says that at least most of them were withdrawn from russia in september 1943:

I'm sure that there was talk about Italians being used as supply troops. I'm not sure when this was present.

According to the second article there were five 'smoke cover' battailons left in russia, but if they fled or were taken as POWs by the russians I couldn't find out unfortunately!
