This sprung for pure curiosity, so don't bash at me, please :)

I was wondering:

If these forums have something called "reputation" and some people gather (on purpose?) TONS of negative feedback from other people... Is there any penalty in the end? Or reward if you go the other way? I mean, will a guy get perm banned after reaching -1000 or -10000?

It's kind of like the twisted story with thieves and policemen, when thieves steal all the time, everybody knows who they are but the "police" is not exactly chasing them at all ;)

Venting opinions doesn't get you a ban, even to -10000. I think. Probably.

Is this the start of a new conspiracy theory?

Reputation means very little other than if someone agrees with you or not. What it should be used for is whether you have a constructive and interesting contribution to the forum or not, but sadly pretty much all reputation systems on any forum are just used for opinion.

Perhaps then it should presented right in the forum, next to posters name? This way we could avoid obvious trolls and ignore them (as they should be ignored), their posts and all.

After all, a troll just hides and waits when you cross his bridge... ;)

Reputation does not mean anything. If you wanna try the negrep thingy heres some topics you should start:

"Nerf the Tiger"
"Buff the IS4"
"German tank XY is OP"
"Buff Artillery"
"russian tank XY is UP"

Your negrep will soon hit the -1000

That's the thing - WHY would anyone want bad rep? IRL, is anyone actively trying to do anything to piss off other people (mentally-ill excluded)? If you do something stupid, then you're in trouble and learn for the future.

Internet as a whole is in a such sorry state, because people think there are no consequences for being an asshole.

Largely because there ARE no consequences for being an asshole.

This will change and quickly. Even today, one stupid enough comment on FB or other place can cost you a job. And all this data is stored, backuped, crawled by search engines, matched with your other profiles on other websites...

Which is not a good thing, if you think about it.

Because not only a stupid or inappropriate comment can cost you a job, but a harmless one as well.
Talked about World of Tanks and how much you love it ? Well, maybe a potential future boss considers himself a peace activist and wont give you a job because he has no idea of the game.

Talking about your preferred political party, talking about your friends (who might have content on THEIR FB site your poential employer considers inappropriate) and a ton of other topics can be disadvantegous as well.
So while we might enjoy a guy who acts like an a****** get what he deserves, it would be a bit naive to think only guys like that could have a possible disadvantage from all that profile data mining.

I know why I dont have a FB site, and if I'd ever get one you can bet it'd contain neither my real name nor any photos of me or my friends.
