Eastern European  peep here, and the military parade is one most awesome things to watch(Cuz after we entered NATO and they cut our army, our own military parade that was yesterday is shitty). And I dont get what the big deal is and what's the point of the wall of text? It's a day to comemorate the people that died in WWII(and the veterans) and its probably the biggest non-relegious holiday in Russia.

P.S the Usa people over at their forum are taking it okay, and everyone is happy and doesnt care for the name of the event.
maybe they are taking it well because for them the ussr was a far-away boogyman... the soviet tanks didn't invade their country and they didn't have to live under comunism

While I mostly agree with your points in both posts, I think this quote is in bad taste. They were, like all the other Allied Nations a contributing factor. To consign the victory in Europe to them alone is entirely false.

You got some points, however there are some historical facts that cannot be forget. Also we have to not forget that we are playing a game which partially used that part  of "blaimed" historical facts.

You don't have to go on streets to be part of I dont know what parade, so why just not enjoyed the WoT promotion and that's it?

See my reply in this thread.

The NA server could have used the word "commemorate" rather than "celebrate" in their article and then the whole NA server article could have been used on both servers.

At least in my opinion it could, and better than the confused EU article/home page headline.

WG - if you want to do an end of WW2 event, don't call it Military Parade, call it VE day or something similar. And if you want a Military Parade event, don't do it in May or near any other communist anniversaries.
I just wanted WG to be aware I think this particular event is not appropriate.

In 2011 they have called the event Victory Day and there was similar thread about Victory Day not meaning Victory for everyone. Some people have stated that Victory Day event is insulting their feelings. Maybe that's the reason of Military Parade name this year?

FYI everyone, the OP does have a point; Military Parade's on this date were about glorifying the Soviet Union. And that is NOT a good thing.

Quote

V E Day Parade Date Tuesday May 8, 2012 Time 7 pm Description Presented by the Lawrencetown Royal Canadian Legion.
Victory Day in Europe commemorates May 8, 1945, the end of World War II.

Parade will line up in the hospital parking lot. Please come out and show our support. Cost
Free

Just an example. VE day (exact date often shifts - Denmark for example celebrates liberation day as early as May 5) is celebrated in many countries, not only in Russia, and often by military parades.

Every time something happens, the odd dude who feels offended pops up.
This is no different.
Some people really, really need to let go. These are things that happened in the past and getting all up in arms about how a certain game event is called... honestly, reeks intolerance and extremism. Holding a grudge for decades is kind of stupid to me, and I lived during the communist era, where power would go off every evening "to support the factories", food was scarce and bad, there were 2 hours of TV daily (8 PM to 10 PM) and hot water/heating during winter were luxuries.
But I am smart enough to know that all those happened because of some people who did what they did.
I have long ago realized that all parts were equally bad, objectively speaking, and moved on. I suggest you do the same. Enjoy the game, enjoy the promotion; don't focus on what the reason is in this case, just the effect; it's a game after all.

I agree with a lot what is stated here:
* Soviet Union was an evil regime, on par with Nazi Germany
* Current Russia does not really fully acknowledge and admit the atrocities performed by the Soviet Union
* "Military Parade" is a awkward name for a special

However, there is a lot of whining on the forums any time one server gets a good special and the other doesn't. If they didn't do a special at this time while Russians get a really nice one (double profit at T-34-85 for whole may, free day of premium, etc.) then everybody would blame them for favouring the Russian server.

So they made a really nice special for us too, which I'm thinkful for. The name is strange, but whatever.

A bigger problem really is that many of the developers (e.g., SerB) are Soviet apologists.

Nope.avi...

I am Dutch, and in the Netherlands we have 2 days. 4th of may is our "Remembrance day" on which we remember our casualties (also casualties of peacekeeper missions etc. moder victims) and on the 5th of may we have our "Liberation Day" (with a parade which is still visited by many international veterans who fought for my country).

So it is not strictly a Russian thing (and no, Netherlands was never a part of PACT...)

P.S. The ONLY evil nuclear country in the world is the U.S.A.
They used 2...

I'm also Dutch but I have to had that the Dutch military parade is only for war veterans and as fare as I know there is no show of new military gear. Also both the 4 and 5 of May while they are national holidays they are also normal working days. You do not get a day off.

There is a HUGE difference between the Eastern Europe style of military parade and how the Dutch do it.

I am a veteran myself, although not because I was in a war situation.
I'm supposed to be there every year, but I feel I should not be there. So for personal reasons I don't go. My choice.

It is not just for "war" veterans...

This topic is great, think about what is being discussed, at least we are having a discourse about something that deserves a discourse until the end of times.

Even though I don't live in the Netherlands anymore, I was quiet at 7PM GMT on May the fourth, like every Dutchman should be. I am not going to deny anybody the same right to remember, but that is just me.
