Dragon Ridge, Good or Bad - Poll

after getting more and more matches on this map in my hellcat i can say the following:
while on paper it shouldn't be that bad (yay gun depression!) it's actually worse.
it's usually - who can win the battle in the village, wins the map. the ridge is such a prominent feature that flanking* hardly makes any sense. and fights in the village certainly favors heavily armored tanks.
actually it's a close quarters map just like ensk (and to some degree: himmelsdorf) ... room to maneuver is limited, with the additional limiting factor that you only got a narrow strip in the middle of the map where fighting actually makes sense.
the same goes for scouting - at best you can do shortrange "scouting" - unless you control the ridge, there's no real need to spot anything down in the valley ... and once you control the ridge the match is practically won. in which case you'd rather have another damage dealing tank than a scout tank - as camouflage & speed don't help that much when you want to control the ridge.
*) and by this i don't mean the close combat flanking of two tanks fighting one, but taking a different route to flank the enemy force. on almost every other map you got a few of these routes.

Invisible walls everywhere.
No use for heavies.
Everything is centered around the village, meaning that you are FORCED to go there.
No use for arty.
No use for TDs.
Too much bamboo.
No point of it being in the game, it doesn't add anything.
No use for heavies.

No offence but make dam balance options, your options are "HOW MUCH DOES THIS MAP SUCK AND DO YOU AGREE?"
Dragon ridge is a nice map, there are 3 ways to get across the ridge and tanks can go where they want there are options. Plenty of maps are the same... exactly the same in structure but they are old and this is a new map. So lets whine shall we.
I've played as tanks and as arty on dragon ridge... as long as people spot the enemy tanks on hiding behind the big mountain you can get them well enough you have to just stop be a camping git. Town is trickier but I have blasted 1 guy as the buildings are made out of paper.
As tank I play mediums more I tend to sneak around in the town mostly but do go over to the far mountain ridge, do raids on their arty etc.
Why don't all the whiners propose a map, then see how many other whiners tell them that its crap... oh no you're not going to do that are you.

while there are several ways OVER the ridge, the small part of the ridge itself (or to be more precise: the village) is where a.) the fighting happens and b.) where it matters. if you push down in the enemy valley without taking and holding the ridge you're not only toast, you also diminish your chances to actually take the ridge.
the only other map that has a similar prominent feature is mines with its hill. but at the same times mines is a quite diverse map - you got the village for close combat, you got the bases and the island for long range fights .. and the hill has both. and while losing the hill on mines is makes winning very unlikely, you still have a chance to turn it around with a good defense.
on dragon ridge there's no way to mount a good defense of the base once you've lost the ridge - as you will be fighting up-hill you're at every possible disadvantage.

I like the map
, have more fun in playing Dragon than South Coast. Sometimes it sucks if team doesn't understand to use the hills/terrain for flanking. Oh and it looks nice!

there is just the way for heavy/td and the other for meds, if a heavy goes for the long way the round will be over before they can flank.
but i like the village, both teams can take it.

1 - It's OK
2 - Hmm, there doesn't seem to be that many
3 - It looks nice; It's different to all the other maps; It offer interesting tactics
4 - None of the above or no comment/option
I play mostly with a tank destroyer and, although I find it more suitable for swift heavies and mediums, I've do reasonable well. The steep hills, slow climbs are just part of it. They ain't that bad. There are other maps with higher slopes and, in contrary of Dragon Ridge, no concealment.
I disagree with all these points. And you are definitely not forced to go through the village.

Like Ensk it's an FPS killer for me (just these two 6-7 FPS, other maps 30+). If you are in a slow tank, hmmm...

I think only people whining are ones that always play their slow tier 10 heavies.... I like to play fast tanks like t54 and amx 13 90. This map unlike many maps provides slight advantage to little guys

While visually the map looks good, it is terrible for a gameplay. I mean show me any sane general, who would send tanks to these hills...

Love it when I get there with my KV-1, it is one of the few maps that always end in a non-peek-a-boo slugfest.
But when I get there with S-51 or IS-3, it sucks...

My favourite map.
It's nicely designed and the town is the place where I am 99% of my time in this map. I love flanking the enemies by driving through a house and hitting the enemy's side and retreating. I always drive to the town with the heavies, but go drive in the hillside once I can to avoid getting shot at. I'd like to see more maps like these. The fully destructible buildings are the best part of this map IMO. They offer new tactics and flanking options. I would like to see more of these kinds of buildings in the future maps.

Awesome map in general. What I do not like though is that those FREAKIN FENCES MADE OF STICKS stop shells of my IS-3

There are only 2 things i dislike about it:
-1: You can easily get stuck at many places, ive got stuck many times, stil not as many times as in urban areas though...
-2: You cant go on to the rice field parts. Many times when I try to get away fastly i end up running into the edge of a rice field stopping me or making me stuck.

I dont actually dislike this map but i feel that the South has a disadvantage.
North can get faster to the city and faster to the west flank. Also there is a really nice hull down position in the north near the city, you can literally drive into the city with the enemy team only being able to see your turret.
South has to either drive straight through risk getting shot or has to take the huge detour going offhill then entering again in the north to get to west flank.
I think this map is very pretty to see and detailed but i feel that south is somehow always gimped in this map (maybe this is my imagination or im doing something wrong, but i mostly loose if i end up starting in south).
