  • "Pilot of the Kittyhawk P-40 was thought to have survived crash, but died trying to walk out of the desert
  • Aircraft was found almost perfectly preserved, unseen and untouched, after it came down in 1942
  • Historian describes find as 'an incredible time capsule' and 'the aviation equivalent of Tutankhamun's Tomb'"

Crazy, huh? More pictures in the link. Parachute is still there, ammo still in the magazine, the magazine itself looks almost new...

Pretty pictures too. I'm an enormous 'Dune' fan (you either haven't heard of it or you just yelped for joy...) so strange forgotten deserts really do it for me...

Poor bugger.

If you look carefully you can see wormsign in the background.

Poor pilot. Survived crashing only to die in the desert.

Amazing.

But what a tragic fate of the pilot.

Guys, actually fate of the pilot is to be relieved. There is no confirmation about whether he died or made it, they are working on it ;)

Yep, it's possible that he (or she...) got on oasis or, on very good luck, even was rescued by SAS-troops or by Italian Saharian troops. But I believe he/she had very agonising death on the desert and it's very sure that body is never found. NEVER.

Also, if you look at the plane, you see that paint has completely vanished by constant wind and sand.

200 miles of Sahara in all directions, no water or shelter... no way he made it. :(
