For those who don't know who Donald Dunn is, look no further than the Blues Brothers movie. The bass player with his pipe. Not only did he play in the movie, but together with Steve Cropper and the rest of the Stax house band, he is responsible for some of the best music ever recorded. He has played on stage with many great artists, including Eric Clapton and Neil Young.

As a bass player, your job in a band is to lay down a groove for the rest of the song to glide on, and this is what he did like no other. He was never seen, but always heard.

This news article states that Steve Cropper first reported Donald's passing on his FB page; apparently Donald passed away in his sleep after playing 2 shows in Tokyo, Japan. He was 70 years old.

Personally, if I had to finally shuffle off this mortal coil, I'd want to go like that - play two great shows, doing what I love doing, and passing away in my sleep.

Rest in Peace, Donald "Duck" Dunn, the new bassist for that great gig in the sky.

Yeah really sad to see this, I grew up listening to blues and the Blues Brothers is one of my all time favorite films. Amazing bass player.
