For me, the worst is without doubt the 76mm ZIS-5, but the other three are all of them useful in some way, which do you prefer?

Because of new MM, 85mm is best. It can crush most of the tanks KV-1 meets. With fast RoF adn low ammo cost you can afford a miss or even a blindshot sometimes.

57mm is for fun, try it....makes low damage, lower pen, but very high RoF, you can roflpwn big tanks also :)

Its kinda the same dilemma as with M4 Sherman, 105mm howitzer used to be good no matter the match tier, while m1a1 shined at low tier matches offering better dpm and precision than non-penetrating hits with 105mm. The 122mm has very low RoF compared to the 85mm while dealing usually less damage on a non-penetrating hit (usually 150-ish). The shell cost of 122mm u-11 is also 250 silver compared to 100 of the 85mm. To sum up while the 122mm is better when facing tier 8 tanks (although you're doomed in this case anyway-you shouldn't be on the first line in this kind of battle), the 85mm is a better all-around moneymaker, which is the tank's main purpose.

Wouldn't touch the 76 or 122, and have tried the others. The 85 is a good gun, decent PEN and damage makes it useful. But the 57...that is a hoot. For taking down fast lights it is awesome. For putting the wind up everything else with the constant rat-a-tat-tat, it is also good. They are both worth a try.

57 mm: Heavy MG of doom, requires some fancy manuvering to use to 100%. Good accuracy for a russian gun (0.34)

122 mm: Medium derp, higher alpha than it's US/German counterpart. Always deal some damage but is never the optimal choise.

85 mm: Workhorse, high alpha but somewhat lacking in pen and accuracy. Oneshots tier 3 and kill tier 4 in 2-3 hits. The alpha advantage is not that impressive when facing tier 6 and up.

There is no "best" gun for the KV-1 but one of them fit your playstyle more than the other ones. Try them all and decide which one you prefer.

F-30 is best.
U-11 is unreliable.
57mm... sounds nice, but I already have a Churchill. Heavy tier 5 that goes pew-pew with low damage and high RoF. You can try that on a T-34 and see if you like it.
Stock gun is never any good. By default.

Absolutely 85mm F-30! That is monster cannon, what most tanks fear.

U 11 is best choice by my mind. If you are top tier, in rare occasions some German tank could absorb shot and resieve 100-200 damage, in other cases target is oneshoted (except side shots, there shell explode far from armor when hit the track and do not make full damage. Gun is somewhat accurate, but firepower is fearsome in this case. And when you are in bottom of list, you are support tank. Damage is not your mission, you mast detrack and do some damage in the process, make critical damages (gun is most important) and other irritation techniques. Then you hit turret with priority and make more to team victory, than other heavies armed with low penetration/low accuracy guns. Tank is not great moneymaker in this case, but is still great. Especially when face 85mm KV1 at medium  or very low distance. Then you have armor to absorb most of his shots, and at same case you have ability to deal great amount of damage to yours opponent.

57mm for me. Better accuracy than the 85mm and similar pen.  The ROF makes up for the lack of damage.  More importantly, the ROF also allows you to track enemies from range.  So whilst you might not have the same kick, the fact that you WILL hit the enemy more regularly and more oftens means far more chance of stopping the enemy in his tracks, meaning that even if you can't kill them, a team mate will.  It's also a great way to panic enemies.  Once they see repeated damage, they do tend to back off.
I've had games with 30+ hits with the 57mm and against either side armour, or lower tiers, the majority WILL damage.

I use both 57 and 85 mm. 57 is better on the open maps due to higher dpm and accuary, 85mm is better in town where you peek-a-boo very often. 122 isn't good enough for me.(sorry for my bad english)

Had a great fun while playing it with 122mm. With 85mm it's just a slow ass T-34 : P or a Churchill.

85 is probably the 'best' gun, but I just installed the 57 and, apart from having great DPM, it is HILARIOUS. A round every two seconds is just silly, penetration is nearly as good as the 85. Getting pelted by nearly 30rpm is pretty intimidating as well.

85mm gun is good :) Fast ammo loading and nice damage. You will scare your enemies with 2-5 tier tanks.

122 is the way to go. Regardless of the opposition, you will always do nice damage. Not to mention if you are top tire in the game, the pHun is guaranteed.

I've played a lot with this tank after 7.3 and I'm quite sure to say this:

122 mm U-11 > 85 mm F-30 > 57 mm 413 >> 76 mm ZiS-5

The last one I didn't even try but it clearly sucks.

I say that 122mm is the best because it has decent RoF with rammer; if you are top tier, you oneshot almost everything, whereas if you are bottom you will do some damages anyway because of HE shells.

85mm is decent but 120mm pen is too low when you face tier 7-8s.

I play casually KV-1 (just training the crew and I intend to sell it later), but last week I got Ace tanker, master gunner, sharpshooter, steel wall, sniper using the miniderp ... :Smile_Default:

I really don't play much for kills, so i use the 122mm, though descriptions says its not, it is quite accurate and in urban maps I've done alot of damage. I even oneshotted a 56%HP Löwe with an accidental shot in the driver's viewport, though that's not something you should hope for.

Due to long reload time, this gun won't give you alot of kills against high-tier tanks (xept against tanks with allready damaged ammo racks when shooting their viewports), so like its been said, stick to the support role and do moderate-high damage to everything.

Staying with the team is an advice worh listening to, as scouts might use your long reload and poor overall traverse to circle you.
Peek-a-BOOM is a useful tactic. And if you can get behind the enmy and hit weakspots like turret viewports, turret ring, or similar places with poor armor, you can be a real headache to everyone who doesn't take you seriously.
