Well MWO (Mechwarrior online) is in it's closed beta phase and hopefully in a couple of weeks it will go live.
My question to you all is do you think MWO will take many players from WOTs? I think so because of one reason Mechs own tanks :D
Oh and it is free to play as well :D

IDK. Tanks and robots are two very different areas of interest. I doubt those who have strong interests in WW2 and tank warfare would cross over to something fantastical and futuristic. I personally have no interest in MWO.

Well, it has been told several times, that WoT would be doomed by different games... and guess what it's still here... and it will easily survive MWO as well... why? Because Mechs are no tanks... easy as that.

It's sure, that WoT is not the best MMO out there, but it's the best (well in fact it's the only) with tanks... so MWO is no problem... I guess there are only few players, who really play only WoT... for example I am playing up to three games and decide which one to take by which one annoys me the least ;-)

I know MWO is going to be a good game, but I never ever even though about trying it out. Because it is totally based on fantasy.

MWO is looking and playing like a well oiled machine ( or is it, I can't confirm nor deny that I have played it). MWO is a completely different game to WoT and aimed at a true hardcore base of players, while the gameplay is aimed at the more futuristic type of gamer it is also aimed at the people with a true 'inner-geek'. MWO looks beautiful, plays smoothly (or does it, once again I cannot confirm nor deny I have played it). I can't see it having a direct impact on the WoT fanbase/ player base, however I can see it being a massive hit in it's own right and only the hardcore mechwarrior fans will find it to their liking. Sure alot will try it, and it may steal a few of the older members from here who have seen enough tanks for now. Also a big plus to MWO is that it is listening to it's community ( take note WG, they don't just listen to the whingers). So in a nutshell, without rambling on with this post, which no doubt will get a lot of neg reps, I doubt WoT has anything to fear from MWO.....just yet

I think another aspect of why MWO will kill WOTs is the meta game which MWO are introducing where at the start you pick a faction to fight for and you will fight for worlds or sectors with your faction pals making the game world change, WOTs should have done something like this at the moment what have we got? Team deathmatch thats it.
MWO will have at least 2 game types at launch with more following, one is a teamdeathmatch (maybe more than 2 teams) and also assault mode in which you pick 3 mechs and as one blows up you get to drop another in.
Also I think MWO will be more strategic in the fact your pilot can pick a class and one of them is a commander class where you can tell your fellow pilots where to go, send in airstrikes or drones etc also scout mechs will have much more to do and like WOT they will get experience for spotting mechs and relaying the info back to the commander.
Iam on the MWO forums alot and many people there play WOTs but most have said they will start giving their money to MWO instead of WOT.
I think wargaming should have made more game types, better matchmaking much sooner because they will lose out to MWO.

Oh and I forgot the best thing about it compared to WOT is any mech light or assault can hurt any other mech, a medium laser on a scout does the same damage as one on a larger mech, so no more rage quitting because you can't hurt a single tank :D

You really still fail to see, that you cannot compare mechs with tanks?

Players here like tanks... maybe they like mechs, too, but that won't make them hate tanks when MWO is released...

Have to agree with you there, MWO and WoT are both great in their own right. It's like any game though, you play it too much, you get bored, and no ammount of new game modes will change that, be nice to have some well thought out game modes for WoT, and yes there are a couple on their way, but it's still the same old same old. I reckon both are going to be around for the long haul, and both offer massive differences, but for me, personally I'll be playing both. Played WoT for a while now and the novelty of it is slowly wearing off, still enjoy gaming with my 9MM mates but I think that having 2 games on the go will ease the monotony of WoT

edit: Boymonkey you forgot to add that you can overheat on MWO, which is damned annoying

I know tanks and mechs are different but they are still in the same type of warfare heavy mechanized ....but how many players here only play WOTs because its got tanks in it? Like many in this troubled time I can only afford one Free to Play game (lol) and my money will be going to MWO because it has much more to offer.

I am 100% sure, that almost nobody here plays WoT because of its excellent balancing, great gameplay depth, or long term motivation... let's face it, technically WoT is rather boring and maybe above average... but it has tanks and it has PvP...

Interesting content and PvP for everlasting competition... those two things are enough to keep players at a game, even above all complaints, rantings and anger... so if players stay here even though they are obviously not pleased with the game... what else should make them leave?

I wasn't particularly interested in MWO until recently.
The recent displays of what seem to be completely personal bias towards a certain type of tank, and the contempt to which the playerbase has been treated with the recent test patch means I will at least give it a test ride for sure - the great thing about ftp games is you can always try before you start to buy!

Mechwarrior? Nah.

PlanetSide 2 however... :)

(Note: no NPCs in this game, 100% PvP, meaning the above is NOT scripted footage: every single unit is played by one or more players, up to 2.000 per map!)

I'm a huge mecha fan so I've been watching it with great interest.

It has a different appeal for different players. Much like World of Warcraft and Star Wars the Old Republic are the same but different.

Once I get my new PC I can't wait to try Planetside 2

That's part of the gameplay, you have to manage heat production from your weapons during a battle.

I'm a little surprised that not more comparisons are drawn between MWO and WoT, given that MWO has pretty much ripped the spotting and scouting mechanics straight out of WoT

I wont rush and play MWO.  Been too disapointed in the previous games.  Plus there is that nice free battletech online game that uses the turn based method

Paid a visit to the site. Perhaps I am missing something but I saw an exciting offer of 120 dollars for three months premium?!

That won't kill WoT if that's the kind of price point they are going for. That won't even put a dent in this games playerbase. Planetside 2 is the real threat I think.

That's the special pre-release offer. Just like WoT did.
It also gets you 4 Premium battle mechs, and Some In game currency. There's a $60 one with one Première mech and some IGC and Premium account. Then there's the $30 one with no mechs.

However they all give access to the head start.
