I know it's quoted word for word in the 1957 (I think) film The Longest Day - " The long sobs of the autumn violins.... wounds my heart with a monotonous langour" - one of hundreds of two-part messages broadcast alerting the Resistance to the imminent landings and triggering their actions. Brave men and women all, thy deserve to be honoured as much as the troops who made the assault.
