We felt the gameplay on the maps was far too stagnant and not interesting enough. So that combined with player feedback was enough reason to warrant removing them from random battles.
They are still there for tank companies, clan wars and tournaments--where teams go in with strategies and the battles will likely flow a little better than when playing in a random battle.

The problem with Komarin is that most players simply do not understand it - there are several features which the ordinary player does not understand.
First of all, the problem with the spawning site not being the base. I have played Komarin so many times seeing players simply attacking the wrong base, guarding the wrong base or, even worse, guarding the spawn site! That is why Komarin is the map most prone to massive team fail.
The the issue with the barriers that block the island. In low battles, players do not know that it requires a HT to remove them, and drive up uselessly against them in the meds and lights. In high tier battles, I have very often experienced that NONE of the heavy drivers is "opening" the island, thus leaving it completely to the enemy, which almost certainly results in fail.
These might be the reasons why it's no fun to most players.
Swamp - I don't know, it's not a lot of fun but still ok. I haven't really figured what to do yet on this map, I just find it rather plain with not much opportunity to do good moves.
Malinovka: Honestly, I think that people do not like Malinovka because the don't play it right. YES, it's a boring map if you just sit behind one of the houses or the bushes on either side if the field and wait. BUT it can be great fun if you choose to go over the hill, and that is what I always do. It's just stupid that people complain about this map so much (that it's a boring camper map etc.) but still don't do anything about it by playing it differently. Why sit behind a house when you have a T-44? It's just completely useless. I am very often the only one in my team going for the hill, and even asking for help there does not trigger anyone to go up with me. And the team that owns the hill ALWAYS wins this map.

A lot of the problems aren't the maps but the people who play them. e.g. the people in light tanks that have to camp to protect the base while the TDs have to go scouting.

Most games you ignore 80% of the map. Slow tanks can't move anywhere fast enough & there are so many impassible terrain features that you can't see until your 'stuck'. And there are just too many trees, The foggy valley kills my fps...

The only problem with Dragon Ridge is that a lot of the map isn't accessible (maybe this will be better with the introduction of physics) but once you get to know the map it can be fun.

F**K! They remove all the maps I like omg.... Every map can be played well, every map can be enjoyed if the team is nat a camping buncha noobs. Province was one of my favs dammit! At least make it available for tiers up to 5!!!! Why remove Swamp and Komarin? Again because of noobfails?? What a reason is that? If they remove good maps then at least make us better maps in their places! I like no-city maps the most and now they remove 2 of those?? Damn! Damn! Damn! Game is getting better and better -.- Remove the noob 90% of prem tank players gold ammo users from random battles that would be a good change....

Seriously why these maps are removed? There is no bad to play maps, however there are bugs, stuck-points but is that a reason for removing whole maps instead of fix them?
Example of problematic but playable (as all of the maps): Dragons Ridge. This is kind of bad map bacause all important fight takes place in a village, arty could not support team unless enemy drive over central ridge (due to angles) which occurs when battle in village is lost and battle is almost lost... Yes, it's nice looking, devs put lot of effort to design pagoda... You should remove many maps or better remove none.
Only good thing is restriction for Province (<=3 iter). It's too small and open for high tiers.

Malinovka is far more playable than Komarin, at least if you have a fairly decent team. Swamp is a mixed bag, but still a pretty bad design overall.
In my opinion they were right to drop Komarin, as it was simply too linear, and far too easy for campers to get the upper hand. I for one will not mourn its passing; the fewer camp orientated maps the better.

the way to winn malinovka is for everyone to charge ahead at the beginning. if this doesn't hapen(practically never does) then it is shit. throw it out soon

Komarin and swamp are ok in lower tiers, where people are not familiar with every detal of the map. but in a high tier battle where people know exactly where they can hide so they don't get shot, it turns into camp fest (specialy when there's 3+ arty on each side) and result is often a draw.
Malinovka is actually OK map, tough i think south side has a bit of disadvantage.

It's a disaster for slow tanks if you have to use the hills, plus it lags like a champ and is prone to red screening. The layout is also pretty horrible.
