It is becoming apparent, that the lack of a policy for modifications is causing more and more problems. The problems are:
  • The lack of a centralized folder. Curse.com was announced, but doesn't contain everything. Mozilla hosts most add-ons for the Firefox, for example.
  • Incentive for developers to out-source cumbersome tasks to hobby-tinkerers.
  • Tiny patches with dozens of small, sometimes unnecessary changes in different branches, even the ones, which don't need adjustments. Lots of mods stop working every patch because of it.
  • Still no distinction between legal / illegal mods. When does hacking begin?
All four mods I've been using stopped working this patch, right before a tournament (which I won't participate in anyway, since for mystical reasons my team wasn't allowed). I don't understand the point of a centralized folder like curse.com, when it is not being used strictly. Usually you have to read tons of forum posts, to get your mods running and inform yourself.

Then there is the unanswered question of hacking vs. modding. Hitzone-skins existed, treetop-removal existed. WG never thought about the repurcussions. Some things just shouldn't be allowed.

It is also very dis-social to tread the modders in a way, that their work is constantly undone.

All of this is connected to the patch policy and WoT's status as an extended beta (nominally and really no 1.0). Plans are constantly changed, and the software is extended wherever the developers currently want it to be extended. As if this could be done on a casual basis. Then, every few weeks the version counter rises in the first digit after the comma and people get loads of small additions and loads of trash. Sometimes it's a strict improvement, sometimes it worsens things.

Feel free to discuss.

They made the game, why should they care if someone add modifications? is their game and if someone modify it and then his mods get broken is just his fault. And apart that i never used mods and never felt the need to,why should you? And none is asking the modders to do the mods.

Well i was using OTM but after in game one i don't use it any more, no need for it. What mods are not working for you? I have only reload timer and that one works only thing i use atm XVM made me give up at game start so i removed it. Besides despite they are not telling i think devs don't want all mods to work.

I agree there is a problem. Too many mods were broken in this patch, many for no good reason at all.

XVM stopped working for a lot of people, a maximum zoom mod and at least one minimap mod. Treetop-removal, too, but that's an unfair one anyway. When I look at the forums, there are a lot more.

Well, for instance I need higher zoom, when driving full speed in a light tank so I can see, who's driving behind me. XVM might influence your decision to engage in a melee fight against a certain opponent. I'm not using that one, though.

Good luck trying to get a patch policy - it was tried after this thread and this "official" thread is the result - see how well that was kept updated and followed by WN(WG)....

I always check my mods on testserver. This time my damage panel stopped working. I took a new one, already adapted to 0.7.4. from one of Russian sites (Drongo or mirtankov) and everything is ok. I started to play 0.7.4 on EU already with good mod.

Hitzone skins and tree top removals are not hacks. They give very small advantage and WG has rather nothing against them.

Also WG has no possibility to ban them. To enforce such a ban, they would have to made it impossible to change tanks skins and graphic of maps. To be honest I prefer to have some nice skins on my tanks (for example PzIV with normal turret and Schurtzen, Hellcat with crew and historical turret) or changed skyboxes on darker maps to made them sunnier, then to know that people can't use some stupid hitzone skins.

My zoom still works

Tough. Serves you all right for thinking its ok to not play on a level playing field. Personally i hope it does far more than just inconvenience your gameplay as your are currently experiencing.  Why should devs waste time giving a a damn what new releases do to people who deliberately alter the game from how it was intended to be played.
Mods / cheats call them what ever you like to justify them to yourself, some are far worse than others, its cheating, its altering the game (usually) to give yourself an advantage over others. Ands its EXACTLY the reason I stopped playing console games. Full of cheats who think its ok and/or dont care.
