I think one of the problems people have is that it is outdated against the tanks it is fighting with. It'll be fighting with M4 Shermans, rather than fighting with M3 Lee's.

The only real problem I see is that it is classified as a light tank, instead of a medium/cruiser. This will give it much worse matchmaking than it currently has, and its mobility will be lacking for a tier 5 light tank, just being slightly better than a Shermans mobility.

It sounds like its going to be like the Pz III/IV and the M7, keep moving as thats your best defence, the real question will be whats its agility like, that is the key factor, can it circle, can it turn and keep its speed, can it nip in and out of buildings, can it cope with a uphill slope without slowing to a crawl...

I recall playing the AMX 12t, and i found that to be cursed with poor accel for getting out of trouble.

To my knowledge though it should be a medium tank by specification. They have also called the Cruisers light tanks, and though they had no armor and where fast, the British used them as mediums as such. Ok, I will agree that the Cruiser Mks are "light". Even so...

To be blunt, the year the Crusader was introduced, 1941, it saw lots of action in Africa and with its Ordnance QF 6 pounder was a good match for the Panzer III and could even challenge early Panzer IV. What let it down was a lack of gun upgrades and the appearance of better Panzers in Africa. This more than anything was the reason why Sherman's replaced them. Well, that and the fact they overheated too often. But the Crusader should be a Medium!

They also shouldn't be tier 5. Theoretically I would hazard they make better tier 4 mediums than tier 5 lights. Especially with the Crusaders somewhat slow speed (for a light, decent speed for a medium) and 40mm armor front. The Crusader Mk III had 50 or 51mm armor front..

I'm not really understanding the problem with the crusader as a tier 5 light tank? compared to mediums at the same tier it is almost as good and in some cases better then it contemporaries with considerable angle to emphasise it as well.

According to wiki MK.I 40mm  MK.II 49mm  MK.III 51mm

by comparison to other tier V's

M4 Sherman 51mm
M7  38mm
M24 Chaffee  38mm
AMX 12t 50mm
T-34 45mm
T-50-2  37mm
Pz III/IV 60mm
VK 3001(p)  75mm
VK 2801 60m
If i am missing something here please feel free to point me in the right direction but it seems like a fair fit too me.

Also if anyone knows the maths are they able to work out what the effective armour is with the slope of the armour?

I didnt say anything about it being a problem. It is one of the few british tanks i am really looking forward to. But Crusader is well known for its low armor protection and finding weakspots on it makes no sense unless you are driving Amx 38 : D

Strength of such tank will not be in armor anyway, it has decent speed in real life and if it gets better engine in game, it will be quite fast and 57mm gun with high rate of fire.

The Crusader was used to test the Meteor so historically (lol) it could be fitted with it, when tested though it was so fast it could not be turned at full speed, more of a point in general direction and floor it blasting away as you go, find a place to turn round and repeat.

Placing the crusader as a tier 5 light would be, to my opinion, a mistake.

Its characteristics would allow it to be tier 5 light, but considering the opponents it really faced, and its conception, tier 4 medium would make more sense:
-It would be the equivalent to the pz III, and would face T28's( even though it's old anyway), M3' Lee/Grant, other meds of its time..

- to do so, maybe it would be good to gather Cruiser Mk III and Mk IV, since they are both A13 chassis with relatively the same turret and small guns. (this would make the Cromwell as a tier V (which considering its armor and either 57 or 75 gun seems correct to me), ... then something like the A30 Challenger could be added between the Cromwell and the A34 Comet ... but that's just an idea :)

A friendly advice: DO NOT research the second engine. When you mount it.. its like nothing happend.

nice little british thing. A bit slow for a tier 5 light but it is more like a medium. It also has standard tier 5 matchmaking, not scout matchmaking. I expected it to be faster but even like this the speed is ok. I recommend getting ventilation sice it is only 50 000 credits. Also 100 octane gasoline helps quite a bit but its questionable whether its worth the 5000 extra expense per battle.

Thing is, for a light it that can just about keep up with the german panzer 3/4 medium, it may be quite disappointing...but then it has the camo while moving advantage over pz 3/4.
So far after 15 battles (all with elite tank, started at 75% crew) 67% win ratio.
