Lorraine39 L AM appreciation thread

It would not be a very bold guess that many started playing french arty after the last update. Who would not want a revolver arty?
On the way to the higher tiers you often have to grind some not so fun tanks, and sometimes it makes you wonder if it is all worth it. I know I feel that way about the AMX 105AM, the french tier 4-arty. It is not a good piece of arty, by any standards. This much due to the MM, poor pen for its tier, and the fact that accuracy seems to suffer a bit.
But on the way towards getting a high tier tank, sometimes you find a few gems. And the Lorraine39 is such a gem!
Decent accuracy, decent ROF, good camo, very favourable MM. All this makes the Lorraine39 a very fun piece of arty. You seldom end up in fights with anything higher than tier 5, and T-28's are oneshot kills on a regular basis (personal record T-28 tank kills in one battle, 1 shot each? 3...)
I thought I would just use the Lorraine39 as a stepping stone to get the next piece of arty, but 2 days after I sold it, I bought it back.
Crew is at 82%, I got rammer/GLD/net installed. This is one piece of arty that I will keep for the sheer fun of it. And yeah, I do own other artys too so I got a hunch about this stuff. Obj. 212 is neat, GWP is really good, Hummel can be very fun, but this little gem of arty seems to have won my heart. I am looking forward to see what it can do with crew at 100 % + perks!

All tier 4 arties suck, well, Grille is a monster, but rest of them are pretty much useless.

@ Xzi: Your read that this thread is about a tier III arty?
BTT
I like this little piece of Arty too, but I constantly run out of ammo in longer games due to its fast reload time.

Dunno if there is a luck factor in this game, but i hate this arty so much. 80% Crew, best gun and there are rounds i hit NOTHIN'. A not moving tank (t14 and kv-1 last game) and full aim circle and hit left, right and over them. Splash dmg? Not a bit! What's ok on this Tier, but doesn't make it easier to earn xp.
During beta i had first Hummel as it was highest arty. Than GW Tiger ( on german- and su-14 on russian side) after the introduction and after the release the GW Typ E. So i played some arty games.
Ok, since months, maybe a year i didn't play arty now, but wanna give the french ones a try.
It's a suffer atm. Have good memories about my Sturmpanzer II and be a little bit despered with the L39 atm. Tiny aim circle, ok relaod and good range, but i'm far away to be succesful in it. But yeah, this tier isn't so much fun for arty. To much small and fast moving targets.
I'm a little bit afraid of the next ones in the french line. Their guns have more pen, aim, reload, but the dmg seems to be almost the same and i make now 70-92dmg IF i hit the sides of tanks. Even direkt side hits on su-85 just make so " low" dmg. It would be ok, if i would hit at least every third shot, but i don't. -.-*
A can accept if i'm noobish, but stationary tanks fully aimed on? That makes me sad.
Could anyone tell me please that the AMX 105 is more fun to play? Or at least fun to play? :-)
best regards
Ricul
Mhm, checked up my stats: 19 games, 28kills, 53% WR. Not superior but maybe i mistaked my feeling about this spg.

I like the high arc and long range, shame the gun doesn't have more traverse.
It's good but it's not going to claim best tier 3 arty from the SU26.

I adore it - had a 7 kill game earlier on, and I don't really have the World's greatest crew or a full compliment of modules, in fact I only run with a camo net and toolbox with an 80% crew although the tank itself is fully upgraded.
That said, I don't have a particularly good WR as I got saddled with team after team of novices (notice I deliberately eschew the word "noobs") yesterday which is taking some time to recover from but that's far more of a comment on weekends rather than the tank itself.
I haven't played the SU26 (I have an S51 from Elite'ing the old KV) but if it is rather better than the Lorri then I do wonder what I'm missing out on ^^

In short terms; you will hate it. Worse MM, and a top gun that does not do that much more damage compared to the stock one. Just hit a KV.3 squarely from the side. amount of damage = 3 %...
Thus the little Lorraine is way more fun, since you more often than not will end up in battles where you can actually damage something.
(But I must confess that I sold mine agan, since I never tried the SU-26. Will have a go at it soon though.)

Ok, just played my first battle in the SU26, and i got to say... it lacks damage compared to the Lorry. Was easy to hit with, but do not have the "punch" of the Lorry. And before you ask; yes, I upgraded using free xp so I got all the bells n whistles already.
Lorry still rules, in my book, but just 1 game does not say a thing. I promise I will come back later on when I got more experience with both.

I've sold it for the AMX 105 , i already miss it
It's a real fun SPG , as fun as SU-26 , I did some great games with it , just avoid shooting at a KV-x (especially in the frontal armor ) it's a waste of time and ammo .

Haven't played with it very much, but I have to say that I've been enjoying the battles I've been having so far!
I agree with some of you that say that it doesn't have the "fun factor" value of the SU-26. The extra damage it does, really is a plus. It might just become a real keeper, after the SU-26.

Give Su26 little time, you will love him! My best score was 11 kills with him...7 is not uncommon
