The topic title says it all.

Although I am a regular reader of the board in this and other games, I have very rarely posted. As someone that has been playing WoT and arty since open beta I feel that I have an informed opinion.

I am appealing to the devs to make Ensk a map on which artillery does not participate.

On all other maps there is some room to manoeuvre or hide. This is not true on Ensk where arty is cannon fodder, particularly on the south side of the map.

I would welcome any constructive comments. Trolls need not reply.

If you play arty and agree or disagree, please add a short comment.

Thanks for reading.

K.

I do play arty a lot and I hate Ensk, too, but I have to disagree.

1. Ensk is special as arty. If you manage to survive the first two minutes you can deal serious damage if you know where to position yourself. From both sides (north and south) there are some good spots where you can shoot into the "main battle area" in the western middle of the town. I was very often called a cheater while doing so ;)
2. If on any map specific tanks/classes would be restricted, than anyone would scream that it should be forbidden for class/tank X to participate on map Y. Not good.

Then let's make Sand River and all other open maps non-tank maps, so you won't be useless against arty.

Lol What?
TD mode FTW.
I can hold a entire street road just by standing there on my T92.

If they remove arty from ensk then they should remove tanks from all the open field maps where all the rest of the tanks have no chance cuz of arty. Arty has advantages enough alrdy, dont give them another!

make all maps non arty :)

but no, some maps are just suited better for some tanks then others, but that doesn't mean that the devs has to ban certain tanks from certain maps

Depends on the arty you are using. i got my ace tanker badge on ensk with my S-51. just go TD style in town and do some serious damage.

I have no issue with Ensk nor Himelsdorf in arty (good old ap makes enemy tanks think will they come my way). I hate Maintain Pass in arty and Dragon Ridge in all tanks.

Ensk isn't that bad for arty.  The open fields in the east give you plenty of opportunities for targets.

This said, even if Ensk was the worst possible map for arty, suck it up.  There are plenty of maps where arty rules and heavies would prefer to not be there, eg Steppes, Malinovka.  Having maps where arty is less useful, balances this out.

Besides, if certain maps were excluded for arties, heavies, mediums, TDs and lights should get maps where they should get excluded from.  Most likely, these are the very same maps you like as an arty player.  Suddenly you will no targets to own.

This all coming from someone who plays arty a lot.

Remove arty from the game! That would solve everything!

Tankers could enjoy the game, the rage about arty in all aspects would finally end, and arty players could not complain anymore about nasty maps where they cannot find a spot to dominate the whole map or where tanks are able to hide...

Just the thought of an arty free WoT makes me cry, since arty free matches are already the best that can happen, no matter how much the matchmaker screws you... oh happy days...

WG should sell an "non arty" mode... spend 1000gold/month and no arty participation in your games will be guaranteed (as long as you do not platoon up with one/several). Wow... i wonder how much money they would make with that one...

There is no need for that. I've seen many games with arty hiding successfully, as well as making itself useful. They key (as always) is the time to move to the proper hiding post, and some protection on the field. The second part is difficult, and it's, well.. Random.

Arty is needed as it is dissuading camping. I do hate them greatly, but I do see the need for them.

I disagree completly with the statement, that arty prevents camping. From my own, personal experience, arty is the major factor why so many tanks (not tds!) keep camping, especially on open maps.

Take Himmelsdorf or Ensk for example. Those maps provide great cover from arty, so all tanks, dare to move into town, where the major battle usually takes place. On Himmelsdorf, teams even split and try to outflank each other, knowing that arty will most likely not hit them. Now take any no city map, what do you see? When no arty is present, even heavy tanks swarm out, dare to cross open space to flank an enemy, fighting can happen everywhere on the map, where opponents meet, since no one is forced to stay arty-safe. Of course, you will find ambushes and stuff, but they are different from those camping-places you know, when playing with spgs in game.
With spgs in game, you can experience agile light and some medium tanks on the sides/flanks, while the slow moving, less maneuverable targets never or rarely leave their arty save spots.
They stay hidden and camp, not only because they fear arty, but also because they fear any kind of detection and hit, since any hit bears the risk of getting immobilized and then shot by...arty!

From my experiene, games/matches without arty are the most enjoyable once, even when belonging to the lower tiers! You still have space to maneuver and don´t have to fear to get hit fram above, just because a tier VIII spg beleaves, your tier 6 heavy is a bigger threat than the IS-7 next to you...

This is why I play as medium tanks. Medium and light tanks can evade the shells. Besides, you'll just have to live with it. It's just one out of 24 maps, and tbh there's plenty of cover.

The big problem with arty is most player have no idea whatsoever about target priority, and just go for the easy kill. For example, driving a VK3601H in a platoon in a max tier 10 game, i was strolling behind our IS7 (full 30 metres, so no unlucky deviation). 3 T8 arty decide i am the most important tank in my team and shoot at me at the same fething time. Result, the first one-shots me, the other 2 waste their shells, and my whole tteam has 30-some more seconds for proper deployment in cover. Wooo, chapeau for your smarts arties.
