After reading the posts in this topic, I was especially shocked that someone actually said that it doesn't get better after the Pak 44/2. This is definitely NOT true. I didn't find the grind to the second gun especially easy but it wasn't tedious either. It was... okay.
By now I got the second gun in it with Brothers in Arms, Rammer and Vents and since then 2k dmg per battle is becoming more or less the minimum I'm dealing. (Not counting games with clusterfucks that end up 3:15 which can happen at any given time in random battles if you're driving alone.)
Yes, Arty is a huge problem, as huge as your TD unfortunately is. Hulldown can be a viable option when you're not spotted. In any other case: NEVER stand still for more than 5-6 seconds which is about the aimtime of the big Arty Guns. You will still get hit but fare less often.
I have also maximized the survivability of my JT by getting "Preventative Maintenance" as the second driver skill and a Spall Liner for less Arty-Dmg. This won't help against a direct hit from a 20cm+ mortar but it can sum up when getting splash damage from the bigger artys so you can take 1-2 hits more than you could without it.
Before you begin to question my competence, yes, I'm an average player, but I have about 56% wins in the JT after a bit more than 100 battles and about 700xp per battle, so I'm not completely useless in this tank.
As a motivation: The JT can be frustrating at times but when you put out over 500dmg every 9.43 seconds against every tank in this game, it WILL put a smile on your face. The RoF is your biggest friend, you will see that a LOT of heavies and even meds will drive at full speed from 300 to 200 yards away to you and die because they underestimated how much dmg you deal until they can flank you.

The jagttiger's gun deals to little damage. I have a jagttiger & a T95, the T95 hits like a freight train where the jagttiger just never gets the same punch...
Iem looking forward to the Tire X td with a 170mm gun, I LOVE guns that deal a shitload of damage, fuck Accuracy, fuck it all. Damage! Damage I say, DAMAGE!

Personally speaking, I find it much more satisfying to get: 586, 650, 498, etc. than miss, miss, BOOYAH 902, miss, etc.

This. I find the 128mm more reliable than the other big caliber guns.
My tactic for the JT is to use range range range and range. Use the superior accuracy to your advantage and hit the enemys on ranges they can't hit you. Sometimes that means you need to stay back, yes, but there is nothing honorable in driving a TD up into second line, score a hit and then get killed. Stay 100-200 meters behind the actual action and shoot from a distance. Also try to pick targets you can disable. Don't start to shoot at the biggest one, use the high rate of fire to pick down the smaller ones. Remember, every tank knocked out is a gun less that can shoot a teammate. It helps more to kill 3 IS3 than a single E100, believe me. Against lower tiers the gun just rips apart every tank. Play the support role, not the attacker role.
Sometimes i charge with the JT myself, but only if I'm sure i can't get myself into trouble i can't get myself out again. Going against single T9 or some T10 tanks is no problem, your dpm will down them before they get you. But as soon as there are two, you better reconsider. Also, avoid arty fire like ice would avoid fire. I found that playing T8 arty myself i know pretty well where i can hit and where i can't, or what the spots are where you can get maximum coverage without being hit by arty. That improved my JT play a lot too. If you know where to park your tank, you will have a great time sniping down unaware tanks, and even if you get spotted, you don't have to piss your pants instantly in fear of getting an arty shell on your head.
Also, spall liner works wonders i tell you. Since arty splash damage is reduced exponentially with distance of the hit, 15% can sometimes mean a lot. I quit often noticed arty shells going down next to me from 203mm guns that where doing barely any serious damage.

Sixth sense > SPGs.
Well, almost. It is a skill that all big and slow TDs need because it makes your job much easier.

Jagdtiger is fine as TD, but you have bad camouflage and weak armor - you are forced to snipe and try to get hull down as much as you can - Sixth Sense is useful because if you get spotted, you know arty will aim at you so moving a little may save your life and 128mm PaK 44/2 L/61 makes it, do not listen to others if there is no difference between the worse 128mm because there is..
First of all it has better accuracy, bettter penetration and more damage..
560 damage, 276 penetration, about 9.4 second reload time (when you have 100% crew with rammer, vent and brother in arms)..
The tank gun is REALLY GOOD, mobility is ok, but the rest is quite bad..

Had mixed thoughts about this when I got it last weekend and didnt have the top gun and was being to aggressive.
looked on here got all the modules and now play more a support or supporting push role and my win % has gone up from 38% to 50% and I'm getting 750xp plus a game most games and dealing over 2.1k dmg on avergae

So far im at a 60% winrate with my jt, and that's the best i have with any tank. Sure it is only after 49 battles so it might be just luck, But it absolutely is not a bad tank. Looking forward to see how much getting the new gun will help, only 10k xp to go.
