Hi all!

I found myself in an uneasy situation where I wanted to view/convert my older replay and did not have the right WoT version...which simply prevents you from view the replay as it was played back then. Also I didn't want to download some shady non-official version of the client/patch which could contain malware and such.

So it got me thinking how to get my hands on the proper & official game packages.

All the links & info is here:

You're welcome :)

Maybe it should, it's not exactly obvious where to find these.

Little tip - if you want to watch replays from 0.7.1.1, you can still use 0.7.1 version. And about 0.7.4 - you can watch replays from 0.7.3 too.

You don't have to keep every WoT version installed in order to see all your replays.

will 7.5 be able to replay 7.4 replays?
or is it agreed standard that every patch renders old replays useless?
7.5 test did not play 7.4 files...

Why not when its totally justified?
And why am I again getting errors that some of my replays can not be played since 7.5? Some of them play fine (but with the addtion of a silly little window for some reason) but the one I actually wanted to view wouldnt play.)
Whats the point in us saving epic battles if we can only watch for as long as it is until the next update. BACKWARDS COMPATIBILITY WG!

The file format changed a few times, they said they wanted to roll out this feature as soon as possible and warned about losing backwards compatibility. I don't like it as well, but I understand the reasons behind it.

Even if the file format would not change anymore, there is still the problem of content changes with each patch. For example - what should the game do when you try to play 0.7.4 replay with SU-85 armed with 107mm ZiS gun using 0.7.5? The gun is no longer there - and that's just one of many tweaks made in 0.7.5.

One solution would be to keep all files from all versions in-game and corresponding game-replay version would use them. But that's a maintainability nightmare :)

Well since the replays have next to zero features other than to be able to see you own tank (i.e not being able to switch between players or fly around the map for different view points, or rewind other than right back to the start) then they may as well save the file as a flat video file of the game, rather than one that actually interogate at the game engine, current specs of tanks etc (which is what causes the compatiblity problems).

option a) output the replays as compressed video files
  b) stop meddling with the tanks all the time and changing them so much then there will be less of a problem.

You can't actually switch from one version to another. You need to download the version you need and install it. To run a replay select appropriate WoT version with right click and "Open With" function.

EDIT: and yes... what Gappa said... +1 :)

Or you can drag & drop the replay on the exe file of the respective game version :)
