If I want to run 7.4 will the client automatically update to 7.5 if I start it? I would hate to spend the time to get the 7.4 and the client automatically updates when I enter the game.

If you simply double click the replays no update will occur.
And you can always terminate the auto-updating, as it takes some time.

Is there gonna be any work on making old replays playable? I mean couldn't they just make a separate player app that keeps track of all the old data but is lighter and doesn't have all the full functionality so the client wouldn't have to worry so much about it?
I mean I guess especially for youtubers this must be really annoyoing not being able to play their replays with the current version and keep dozens of versions installed.

Why was the battle results table removed in 0.8.0? :(
The replay just stops after it says "Victory!" and you'll have to choose "Exit to garage" (which garage?) so you can never see all those fancy stats that we all love...
Btw, to help you guys that have older replays and don't know which is which:
2012-12-19 -- 0.7.0
2012-01-05 -- 0.7.1 (0.7.1.1 can play these, as kamilus said previously)
2012-03-13 -- 0.7.1.1
2012-03-30 -- 0.7.2
2012-05-08 -- 0.7.3 (0.7.4 can play these, as kamilus said previously)
2012-06-21 -- 0.7.4
2012-08-01 -- 0.7.5
2012-09-27 -- 0.8.0
Just check the replay date, e.g. "20120906_1849_usa-M24_Chaffee_10_hills.wotreplay" will open with 0.7.5.

Is it just me or did they remove the chat, map pings & endscreen from replays?

Added links for the 0.8.1 update, full setup isn't available at the moment

WG has started to troll my efforts and introduced a web installer that will download the latest version
So for now, it seems no more full setup links but only this:

I did a new list, which shows what replay you can watch at different WoT versions. Atm can't check the older versions (e.g. 0.7.4 on 0.7.5), but it's in my plans for near future.
0.8.1 - 0.8.1, 0.8.0
0.8.0 - 0.8.0
0.7.5 - 0.7.5
0.7.4 - 0.7.4, 0.7.3
0.7.3 - 0.7.3
0.7.2 - 0.7.2
0.7.1.1 - 0.7.1.1, 0.7.1
0.7.1 - 0.7.1
0.7.0 - 0.7.0
And I'm still waiting for the 0.8.1 full client, it would make watching replays much easier...
0.8.1 - 0.8.1, 0.8.0
0.8.0 - 0.8.0
0.7.5 - 0.7.5
0.7.4 - 0.7.4, 0.7.3
0.7.3 - 0.7.3
0.7.2 - 0.7.2
0.7.1.1 - 0.7.1.1, 0.7.1
0.7.1 - 0.7.1
0.7.0 - 0.7.0
And I'm still waiting for the 0.8.1 full client, it would make watching replays much easier...

Is there any way for me to check a particular replay file for what version of WoT it needs to play (I only have a handful of old replays I'd really like to turn into movies and they are spread over different versions).

Upload it to http://mwreplays.com (it should tell you the game version) or maybe the replay manager has this kind of info.
Alternatively, I can prepare an info table with date spans of each version - I already have my replays sorted by version, so that should be pretty straightforward to get this info, as I play almost everyday at least one battle
