T-25 or Matilda?

Cobra6's Photo Cobra6 27 Jul 2012

I've got both and personally like the both equally.

The matilda has epic armour all around and dings a lot, however the gun is relatively crap to be honest.
The T-25 is a good tank, sort of a Panzer IV with better armour, it's quite fast and the gun packs a punch, it feels more fragile however than the Matilda.

Let me say I was really pleasantly surprised with the T-25 when I got mine.

T25 is basically a nerfed PZIV

It's not even similar to the PzIV and their playstyle is completely different. If you use it as a PzIV, no wonder that you find it bad.

I have T-25 and it's nice tank, fun to play. It is true medium, good mobility, fast, nice gun, sloped armor. I don't remember though if it is matched vs tier8.

When I compare it to Ram-II and Matilda (which I don't have) T-25 is fastest and have far best gun from those. Matilda is practically heavy tank, Ram-II is just Sherman with questionable gun.

So if you like medium tanks IMO T-25 is best choice here. If you like heavy tanks then go for Matilda. Ram-II is something between, but not true medium too.

One aspect you can consider too when buying premium tank - which nation you like most, because premium tank is nice to train new crews. So you can train crew for some new tank you want to buy and then crew from premium can be handy. In conclusion if you play most soviet tanks it is wise to buy soviet premium and so on.

Nice argument. "If you will learn how to drive this dumbster, you`ll be able to drive anything".
But he (vlasterx) IMO is right - Matilda teaches how to be patient (not very high speed when compared to RAM & Skoda), gun alows to dmg most of enemy tanks (which, due to MM, are lower tiers).

I find T-25 more chalenging and demanding more experience to be used effectively.

+1. IMO the most important issue when buying premium tanks.

Ideally I'm looking for the one which is the easiest to play. A tank which I can drive and be comfortable driving after a long painful grind on my Tier 8's. My stats arent that great either, so ideally I'm wanting a tank which is likely to up my overall W/R.

Has anyone got the French premium Arty and TD?

I wonder what those are like?

From what i see in the Wiki the Matilda gun aims better has same DMG and has much bettter gun depression. If MM is changed to match it against tier 6 normal i think the low pen gun will be a problem. The T-25 does not seem much better in that department but it can at least flank an enemy.

None of them are "easy-mode" -- they're typical Premiums in that they are less strong than their elited counterparts, relatively forgiving of errors, but capable of turning battles when you've worked out how to use them and have decent crew and good equipment. The better you play the better they get.

Their relative play-styles have been covered well above and they are all fun in their own way. I'd put in another vote for "choose one you want to crew train in" -- extra Dailies really help the crew along -- and just treat the credits as a useful extra.

IIRC you want to progress with your Russian mediums, so that makes the Matilda the obvious choice. Plus it's half-price this weekend...

Arty:
It shoots pretty fast and can take a few hits from lower tier tanks, but the damage is not so great and it moves relatively slow. against higher tiers you do often only <150 damage. however, even with low damage per shot i make really good money with it. maybe the credits multiplicator is higher than in some other premium tanks. overall it is a fun tank to me.

TD:
Slow as hell. maybe one of or the slowest tank ingame :P and it cant take much hits. but the gun makes up for all this. it is great, good damage, pen and fast shooting. and while the marder II gets slightly nerfed because of the smaller tier spread in 7.5 the stats of this tank remain unchanged as far as i know. if you are ok with a very slow tank, i can really recommend this premium tank!

And remember: you can still test premium tanks on the testserver! ;)

Then T-25 would not be for you, it requires skills already learnt. Maybe Matilda then.

However premiums are not used to improve WR% :) maybe Lowe was like this when it first arrived, Type59 was certainly improving WR when it first came it was clearly OP tank with nice 1tier lower MM than other tier8 mediums. But not anymore.

If you want to improve your WR learn to play :) try some tutorials here on forum. Some tips how to improve:

1. don't rush, stay always with other teammates, don't camp either when everyone moved to attack positions
2. always- ALWAYS aim with maximum accuracy, this means: WAIT for the smallest aim circle when you shoot (maybe with exception of close distances) and this obviosuly means to stop your tank
3. when you stop for shoot, try to stop on place where you are covered from arty or enemy counter-fire, it's not always possible but use your brain or check other player how they play
4. aim for weakspots on enemy tanks, it is possible only from closer range but it is very important. again try tutorials on the internet, there tons of pictures and videos where you must aim to hurt even heaviest beasts
5. always check minimap and have general awareness of battlefield, so you prevent enemy from flanking you or cap your base
... etc check forum you will find more.

Now, apparently the T-25 is a fairly decent tank, however I've been told that it does meet Tier 8's fairly regularly. Does anyone know what it's MM will be like once the new changes come with patch 7.5, and how will it compare to the other Tier 5 premium tanks?

MM spread decreases for tier 5 medium tanks - they won't get to meet tier 8 tanks anymore.

If this was me and I had the extra gold, I woudl have gone with the T-25; it seems a lovely tank, if a bit out of line with the general German concepts (of lousy sloping, accurate but low damage guns - T-25 is quite the opposite), plus it has nice HP pool for the tier.

I have a T-25 and it's a nice T5 Premium with good silver earning potential. However, it's not an easy to drive and mistake forgiving tank, since it has some serious quirks that are uncommon with other T5 medium tanks.

The biggest drawbacks are the traverse speed of the tank itself and the turret. It's nothing like i.e. the Pz III/IV. You will get circled to death by any light tank and there is nothing you can do about it, while you cannot do the same to other tanks. Side and rear armor is weak and are vulnerable even to low tier autocannons. This means even as top tier, you have to be cautious. It happened to me quite often that as top tier I charged ahead alone, got encircled by low tier foes and died quickly.

But if you keep that in mind (basically never go alone anywhere) its a potent tank. A large HP pool, strong gun with very good depression, nicely sloped frontal armor plus high speed and good acceleration make it a very versatile tank.

Mathilda on 1st, 2cd and 3rd place.
Thisntank rocks and is Loads of fun because many players underestimate this shiny toy.

Yeh Matilda is great. I think i got my highest Win ratio of all with that little bugger. Its really fun to play, armor is extremely good and gun is enough to deal with all T5 and most T6 enemies :)
