Help me choose a premium tank

_AceOfSpades_'s Photo _AceOfSpades_ 30 Jul 2012

Im thinking about buying a premium tank, however I can't decide which

I heard the new patch will offer some advantages to some, example JagdTiger 88 will only face up to tier 9 etc... so its really hard to decide, im looking for some expert opinions on which is the best tank to earn credits with based on the upcoming updates, aswell as how fun are these tanks actually to play ( if its boring i probably won't play as much so the advantage in credit earning won't mean anything ).

So im trying to pick 1 of these tanks : KV5 / IS6 / Lowe / 88JagdTiger / T34

Now I want to know a few things about each of these tanks

Fun factor  for you personaly  (1-10)
Average credit earning  ( example: 35k, 55k etc.. )
Good and bad things ( example: good gun with nice dpm, reload, good frontal armor, bad side and rear armor etc... )

you can also write additional comments about your suggestions and what you think about them and which u prefer and why etc..

To help you guys im going to write a sheet for each tank so you can simply copy and fill the blanks, and if you don't know about a particular tank just leave him out.

You may at least try to use the search function first. This topic was discussed very very often.

KV-5, very slow (in speed & turret traverse), imo not very well armored (raw flat armor at 180mm, i.e. every gun below 180mm pen = garuanteed bounce, every gun above 180mm pen = semi-garuanteed pen if shot right).
IS-6, pathetic firepower, not very good armor (particularly on turret), will not bounce anything it's own tier, while bouncing almost all of it itself, quite fast and nimble as it's an IS-tank also.
Löwe, sluggish, strong turret armor, mediocre hull armor, prone to fires. Mostly redeemed in features by it's gun with good accuracy, pen, and damage, being slightly better in firepower as Tiger II, but worse in armor.
JT 88mm, very slow (stock JT), mediocre firepower with decent pen but little damage for Tier 8, still not very good armor (worse as Tiger II thx to no independent hull/turret traverse), i don't like the concept.
T34, sluggish, mediocre hull armor (just as bad as Löwe if not slightly worse), all made up by the gun. Best T8 gun in penetration after the ISU's BL-10 on par with T28's gun (248mm pen), acc fine, 400 dmg, insane turret armor and good gun depression.

Of these tanks i've only owned the T34, and from what i can see on the other tanks, i feel it's also the best.

KV5
Fun Factor : 9½
Average Credits : 70000
Good points: Good overall armor. Gun has good DPM. Sluggish at start, but manages an ok speed. Good ramming damage.
Bad Points: The R2 unit in front requires maintenance after all battles. Gun has rather low penetration for a tier 8 heavy gun, so requires a proficient operator. Gun is a bit inaccurate.

T34
Fun Factor : 7½
Average Credits :60000
Good points: Best penetration and damage of the main cannons of the tier 8 heavies. Turret front and rear armor is almost impenetrable if shooting from equal or lower height. Gun depression is really good.
Bad Points: The whole hull could be said to be an armor weakspot. Turret roof vulnerable to equal tier guns on higher terrain. Gun aiming time and accuracy nothing to write home about.

Both are great tanks if played according to their strengths, but I wouldn't say either of them fits a novice.

Most of these tanks I have driven on my friends accs when they ask me nicely if I can farm credits for them.

KV5
Fun Factor : If you are on the top, your Zis 7 equal gun will deal out nice DPM and most players at tier 5-6 do not know where to shoot you. From a distance, those weakspots are hard to hit and if you know how to sidescrape, the rather weak side armor is fun as well.
Average Credits : 40-70
Good points: Good frontal armor and fast refire gun makes this tank a good DPSer. The track armor is large, making it harder to pen this beast from the sides.
Bad Points: Two frontal weakspots make it easy to counter in close quarter combat and its large turret makes it a large target. Relatively slow speed makes it easy game for artillery.

IS6
Fun Factor :
Average Credits :
Good points:
Bad Points:

Lowe
Fun Factor : A good tan for those, who value penetration over alpha damage.
Average Credits : 50-90
Good points: A great gun, good aim time, good turret armor and durability.
Bad Points: Large chance of crew and module damage by HE splash. Slow. Lower plate is large and is very weak, making it a poor choice in close range combat. Engine gets damage a lot from frontal penetrations.

88JagdTiger
Fun Factor : Dude. JT on Tier 8. Nuff said.
Average Credits :
Good points: Good refire and penetration, great armor and it just looks damn nice.
Bad Points: Very slow, bulky. The DPS is perhaps just a little lacking, but a great supportive tank.

T34
Fun Factor : A tier 9 tank made into a credit earner. What is not to like? Enjoy all the pluses the USA heavy line has to offer and make cash while you do.
Average Credits : 60-90
Good points: A great gun, high alpha damage, great turret armor allowing you to take advantage over higher tier enemies by using the terrain. Has a good fear factor when it is a top tier and the penetration allows you to hold your own against tier Xs as well.
Bad Points: The gun aim time is very slow, even with the gunlaying drive and stability it still feels like a stock IS4. The side and front armors are almost non existent with only the large tracks allowing you to hope to take a shot or two.

First thing I would say is, do a quick search before starting a thread like this, we have got at least one such thread opened every day, and although I personally don't mind, it's getting boring to write down the same thing every day...

Back to your question... you can find plenty of reviews on these tanks on the forum, take a look there, also check You Tube for some actual in game footage about these tanks.

However, best thing to do, would be to try it out on the test server... I think 0.7.5 is still on? (not sure though, I haven't payed much attention to the 0.7.5 test phase). You get 15 000 gold on the test server, so you can buy any of the premium tanks. It's one of the best ways to try them out. I did the same with before buying my Löwe.

you should wait for the super pershing, it has 3 laiers of armor, but it has VERY BAD mobility and mediocre gun, but is cheap and it will make credits( I made 650000 on a defeat on test server, that means 65k on regular). If gold is no problem go for t34, it is fun to blow things up with that gun!

T34. It can penetrate anything (if you aim at the weakspots of course) and it hits hard. You just have to know how to use the tank.

I have T34 (since it was a T9 Heavy) and Löwe (since it was released). I vote for the Löwe as for me it has a huge fun factor, and i love it very much from the beginning (54-55% win ratio after 800 battles in it). My T34 is also nice, but it's a lot differnet to play. So basically the question is what playstyle you like. T34 is a bit more of a TD while Löwe is a bad*ss HT.
Löwe:
Fun: 10/10
Credits avg: 65-75+ avg on prem account (tehy will rasie it's income by 5% at patch 7.5)
Pro's: Awesome gun, you can hit anything from distance, very very accurate. You can be a decent deadly sniper. bouncy turret, good hull armor for sidescarping manouvers.
Con's: Stupid WG feature that you can receive engine burn at fronal hits.
T34:
Fun: 10/10
Credits: Same as Löwe, but as the Rof is lower it comes sometimes less, it depends. Avg around 55-65k.
Pro: Better dmg then Löwe, effective as a TD. like the young brother of the T30.
Con: The HUGE aimtime and very low RoF is forcing you to paly as a TD mainly. No hull armor, slow acceleration, only a bit better than the Löwe.
I like bot of them, these are my main credit workhorses. I have T25 as well, it's a fun med, worht to consider as well. ;)

A few weeks ago I bought KV5 and I personally love it. I do agree it's pretty sluggish but its big hull and turret armor are very good.
This tank is also very heavy which enable you to ram other tanks during the battle. It really depends what you're looking for.
Read all the comments and choose the tank that fits you best! Keep us posted! :Smile_Default:

KV-5

Fun Factor 5-10. Depending how high is tier on the list you are, if there are no other tier 8 tanks, then this tank is 10 and if there are other tier 8s its 8-9 But when you are starting to be in bottom of the list the fun factor will drop to 5-7 in tier 9-10 games. Luckily KV-5 has one of the best balance, it will be most often in Tier 8 games and more often than any other tier 8 heavy tank in the TOP when you play it solo.

+Good for beginners and after some practice you can survive (more or less) even in higher tier matches and do damage by aiming into weakspots like hatches/cupolas and detrack your opponents when they move so they reveal their side. Having Vertical Stabilizer is a must on KV-5 with Rammer.
+You can ram people for heavy damage due to good top speed and powerful engine.
+Great armor against lower than tier 8 tanks and the gun can handle most tier up to tier 8 tanks.
+Great TIER BALANCING, you will end up on the top of the list or in tier 8 matches more than with any other tier 8 Premium Heavy tank.
+VERY GOOD CREDITS EARNING, if not one of the BEST. It is comparable to Löwe in that respect or Type 59.
+KV-5 repair cost is minimal and its shells cost pennies.
+It will be removed soon from store, so it will be unique later on. (Oh and i do not know this fact or rumor: That maybe its weakspots are going to be buffed?)
+KV-5 gives ALWAYS INCOME. You will never go on the minus side.

-Weakspots in front hull and top of turret that more skilled player will always try to aim at, but less than tier 8 tanks will have trouble penetrating even them.
-Slow turning speed and bad mobility in bad terrain.
-Big tank, you will be seen from far.
-Suffers more than other tier 8 heavies from getting into tier 9-10 games.
-Suffers from arty and takes crew damage easily.

Overall i would go for KV-5 since it is CHEAP and buy 100% crew with it and train otherwise repair perks, but mobility for driver and deadeye for gunner and 6th sense for commander. (you can later transfer then to other USSR tanks)

No. You get credits if you sell it.

Lets say a tank costs 1000 gold. Then you get 1000x 400 = 400.000
400.000/2 = 200.000 credits (if I'm not wrong).

No, you will get the equivalent of half the price(paid in silver). Someone correct me if I'm wrong.
