youd be wrong then , have you ever played something with sailing ships? the most...umm..."full" approach to it would be in AoP 2 : CoAB, you got to maintain supplies like food, powder, grape, chainshot, exploding shot,et caetera, now, you got a fully loaded ship weighting about 2000 tons, now try to get to someone and fire a broadside with your 45 42lb cannons... id rather go with a simple ship of the line, its got 32 cannons less(Man-o-War has 112),from a slightly lower calibre (36lb, though they re culverins),but is faster, more maneouverable, and has a much better point of sail, offset is weaker hull and less stowing room though :P
my wishlist : Frigate(5th rate,or even an american Heavy Frigate),Ship of the Line, maus-like ship ,so either Le Soleis Royal or Santissima Trininad (just so the newbs piss in their pants :P),and then something derp-ish , for example , a Carronade Frigate

also, i guess the equivalent of meds would be frig-s,lights would be corvettes,or maybe at best a 6th rate, early on a brig or sloop-o-war,TDs could be maybe bomb-ketches,or carronade frigates, SPGs d be rocket ships (or maybe ships carrying mortars with quicklime shells),and heavys would be everything over a 4th rate

EDIT: also, i bet we ll se the announcement at gamescom, im sure on that!

I'd always go for a Schooner personally, fast enough to out run a Frigate and enough guns to blow a hole in anything less, perfect for smuggling :P

Loved Age of Pirates... damn, I went crazy when all out of a sudden I took over one of these nasty American frigates with me puny British brigg... lost interest in the game in the middle to later game stages, though... the game has quite a lot of obvious flaws...

But it's such a great feeling to sail out of Tortuga Harbour with the Pirates of the Caribean Main Theme playing as ingame music (using some giant mod compilation), a stiff breeze blowing your sails and the bow of your ship cuts in two every wave that dares to cross our course...

Most interested in a more modern (technically speaking) revival... perhaps now the developers (Akella?) are able to make a game that uses state-of-the-art technology and operability in all (or at least: most) aspects...

Just tried out AoP 2 (City of Abandoned Ships) with the Gentlemen of Fortune Mod... wow, I don't know how Akella made it, but already the first ten minutes were enough to turn me off the game. Land controls even worse than in the first part, riddiculous mission design, having to talk with a dozen different persons that look like dozens of other persons in a maze of indistinctive huts? Come on... I just wanted to do some sailing! And ship-boarding... and ship-sinking...

aye,but the managment factor is fun (well, atleast untill you get into a town with 1000 starving sailors on your man-of-war ,and they got 84 pieces of food for you.... lol)
anyways, im curious,if it gets to this, if we ll see different ammo types, i guess normal round shot for shots under the waterline, exploding shots to blow up the damn gunpowder storage, chain shot for the sails, grape for the sailors, or 2 more advanced ones for that,f. example, carcass insread of chain, and quicklime instead o grape
