Serene Coast Overview

C_Menz's Photo C_Menz 07 Aug 2012

Posted an overview for the new map Serene Coast over on my blog. Highlights the key areas of the map and has a blown up screenshot of the mini-map for players to use. Also a link to QuickyBaby's drive-through of the new map. Enjoy!

To be honest this is easily my favourite map to come out since Siegfried Line, finally the city blocks aren't the chokepoints and tanks can wander around on the map. The fact that 1/3rd is sea that you can't use makes this "big" map rather small and the railroad provides just enough gamebreaking to make sure that you have to think ahead cause you'll be stuck with your gameplan from the moment you move.

This is actually one of the most balanced maps in the game..... North team gets the island to place TDs , arties , south team gets the hill with very nice fov to snipe- harass..

The one who holds B1 (south) or B2 (north) controls the map.. I love to be the first there in my ELC

Balanced? I don't think so. North team is in worse position from the beginning. 2-3 fast tanks from south team can easily cross the whole hill area and scout the whole north team even before they manage to leave the base. Then it turns out to be desperate fight for survival when enemies shoot you from 3 sides, and their arty has the time of their life.

Just one look at the roster and you see if north team has any fighting chances or will be wiped out in 5 minutes.

Never started in the south position...all 5 games from the north I have won so far.

Besides a quick view of the roster will always tell if your team has a chance or not.

They are only spotted if they are slow heavies trying to go up the hilly terrain(which is also same for the southern base) so of course they'll be spotted if scouts dart across the map to spot them.  I find that the north can attack through the center on either side of the railroad easiest, while the south either has to push far west on the higher ground or a few brave souls to speed over quickly to the town before they are picked apart.

this map is totally imbalanced.

north team loses 9 out of 10 battles because they are spotted and shot at from the hill before they can get into position or even move out of the very base.
my first match on this map we won but just because silly me went with my M103 to that little house at the lower right corner of D5.  half the enemy team was busy pounding my cover so my team could take them out one by one.

every single other match was either winning with south team or losing with north team.

my last match during the recent 3x xp special is just the best example.
by chance i took my chaffee for the last 3x xp fight of the day (crew training) and guess what happend? i startet on this map, T7 battle, south team.
hell yeah and it was a damn slaughter.
the enemy team never had the chance to move out, get into position, regroup, take cover, gain map control, spot me or even get me off that hill.
i was on the hill after 30 seconds, match was over after 5 1/2 minutes.
gave me a nice new xp record for chaffee.

Spoiler

i uploaded the replay so you can see for yourselves. poor north team never had any chance.
dropbox 2334 xp chaffee replay

high tier games are even worse. lorraine, batchat or TD on hill? north team gets totally f*cked in no time.
this map clearly needs some hard rework or even removal from the map pool asap.

Oh well I'm not the only one.

Only loses from north...only wins from south

Something is really wrong ^^

funny, it's the exact opoosite for me. i've yet to win a single game in the south or lose one in the north.

until the north tanks manage to get to the rocks at D-E-F 4 and 5. at that point the battle is pretty much won, the enemy arty won't be able to touch you unless they practically walk into your view-range and any tank that wants to fire at you will have to expose themselves to your arty.

let's not forget that the north also gets the perfect arty spot in the form of that hill at A7. you can land a shell almost anywhere from that spot and see any incoming scouts. and since most of them go straight for the island (at tier 6 at least) you'll have time to kill them/move too.

on the other hand playing arty in the south is just a pain.

I see alot that the hill is good but people def or attack on coast got sniped from side or even rear on that island by invisible td/ tanks.
the biggest problem with that island is that you need to cross a open field with luck get to houses hoping hill got your ass coverd and than you always have one hiding behind bolder before bridge that blocks you from spotting island or they need to make bridge on opposite side or scrap it
