Just wondering if someone can remember if tier 5 Light Tanks have ever gotten discounts.
I'm asking this because I have just researched my Chaffee, but I want to know if there's actually a chance that it might get a discount on one of the near future specials.
Awaiting for reply.

I don't remember such a thing. End-line tanks never got discounts.
Edit: On the other side, ofcourse I'd still want it to get discounted, always nice to save some credits!

yeah the only light tier 5 tank to be on sale was amx 12t and that is not an end line tank, that i remember. If you want a sale you will have to wait a very long time

Pretty sure it hasn't happened since they've been introduced. As has been said, they're considered end-of-the-line tanks, just like Tier X heavies and Tier VIII SPGs. I don't see them ever getting a discount unless their status is reviewed.
Buy your Chaffee, it's tremendous fun. And a great reward for spending so much time in the M5.

Yes, tier 5 light tanks have been discounted before:
http://worldoftanks....s-week-special/
But, I doubt it will ever happen again. The 2012 specials are nowhere near as good as the 2011 ones and it took an xmas special for tier 5 lights to get the 50% discount.

Imagine grinding half of your lifetime for credits with a tier 5 tank to buy a tier 10 vehicle, and when you finally have the money, +6 000 000 credits, you buy it, and then on the next day they announce 50% off from all of them.

Don't buy it on a discount or they will sell you some cheap Chinese copy which will break down after couple battles

Anyway, the devs have announced tier VIII lights for all nations, so the Chaffee will not be an end-of-line tank forever.
Should I start stockpiling XP? I am looking forward to trolling tier X heavies in a tank that does not get one or -twoshotted by its typical opponents

Darn, this thing is suprisingly slow, ofcourse I still have the stock engine.
I do have the first engine researched, however it's too heavy for the stock tracks. I now have 1,2k exp on my chaffee.
I'm thinking of maybe spending some free exp on researching the tracks so I can immeadiately get the engine with 380 hp.
Though will that 80 hp make a big difference?

It will make a difference when you factor in the improved tracks too. The stock Chaffee is not very good.

Don't expect it to be as fast as a T-50-2 though, it's a spotter tank not a brawler. (no further comments from me as I have never driven the Chaffee)

I own a T-50-2 and a VK 2801 and I have put a lot of interest into scouts since some time. My T-50-2 is my obvious favourite!
I also still happen to own my T-50, which I have also pimped out. I mostly use it just for fun and for tier 4 fun cups.
As far as I know, the Chaffee is more like an agressive flanker since it has some pretty high pen.

The Chaffee can be played a couple of different ways. Don't think of it as a light. Think of it as a fast medium. It's been compared to an easy-8 on steroids and that sums it up well.
It's great for getting into a forward passive scout position at the beginning of a game (if you have binocs & camo-net). But further into a battle it can be used as a great flank support tank (like a medium).
It also has the potential to sprint through a weak area of defence and make artys need to change their underwear.

We're in bad luck, my positive votes are done for today, I'll get back at you tomorrow.
Edit: Oh my god, I don't even have the best gun and engine yet and I'm already loving this tank! Just now me, a T-50-2, a T20 and a T-43 causes havok on Karelia assault where we were on the defender side. We took care of almost everything when we made a full lap around the map, circling around heavies and killing them all!
T-50-2 was mostly driving around them to distract them, I went for some nice sidehugging, while our T-43 and T20 either sniped or swarmed. Never seen such good teamwork before!

Get a tier X TD then. Don't expect a light tank to be a target that doesn't get two shooted, it's light after all. Maneuverability > survivability.
The question remains if the "scout" lights (from tier IV) will be made competitive vs higher tiers like arty is currently designed to, or if they will be balanced vs same-tier tanks.
However, I am actually not that far from the T110E3, something like 110 000 XP (though grinding the money is going to take forever).
