Hi!

Recently I've driven a lot the ELC AMX. I've also preformed some cammo tests with 50% crew and no cammo net. In those tests it was visible by elite Chaffe when standing still on open at 300 meters, on move at 320 meters and in a bush at 110 meters. When firing it become visible in a bush at 300 meters. It spotted moving Chafee at 280 meters.

With this test concluded I had enough data to make this analysis:

Good sides
  • very fast and agile
  • decent view range
  • good cammo when spotting (standing still in cover)
  • low profile - small target. Some tanks can't low their guns enough to hit it when face-hugging
  • very good gun penetration for tier-5 (AFAIK the best pen in tier-5)
  • good gun damage (240/320 average)
  • cheap ammo (255 silver per shell)
  • cheap repair
  • like all tier-5 a decent money earner
Bad sides
  • no turret, so circling and killing is done only on slow targets
  • can't deal with fast scouts
  • no armor at all
  • each second frontal hit in hull damages the engine
  • on move visilble at 320 meters, so it isn't a dedicated scout
  • terrible gun accuracy when moving and turning (max aim circle is 1/3 height of the 1920x1080 screen)
  • bad gun accuracy when moving only gun
  • terrible aim speed (with Enhanced Gun Laying Drive and 100% crew from full circle to min circle in about 8 seconds)
  • low gun reload speed
  • bad gun depression
  • short radio range
  • keeps missing point-blank targets (usually overshooting)
  • harder opposition: the MM puts it in battles with tier-9 tanks
So what is then the ELC AMX?
  • It isn't a scout - on move it's visible at too long distance
  • It isn't an AT -when firing it's visible at too long distance
Yet
  • it can pen frontally about 80%+ tanks it meets in battles, and can pen all tanks's sides and rear,
  • its speed allows it to get in good firing position most of the time.
  • It's also great at harrasing lone tanks no matter what tier they are. There are many such tanks dead on the battlefield because I distracted them with my ELC and my team finished them off.
I hope this analysis will help you decide how to drive this "angry wasp". :Smile_great:

As I seem to have adopted when summarising the ELC AMX, M18 Princple.

Turret limitation and no armour but it goes like a bullet and packs a punch.

Just sum it up by the fact it isnt a tank, its a troll on tracks. I love driving it, because its a great moneymaker even if you die within half a minute, lol.

I love my ELC.

You either:

1. Troll platoon, 3 of these taking out every lone tank you can see on the map, taking out arty as soon as possible

2. Lone wolf, reach epic firing positions really fast, the gun is simply epic

You can also scout just as good as any other scout. the lower profile is a massive advantage.

I must disagree , this is a very mobile scout/TD basically you can scout with it since it get's in such low tier battles you will usually find tier 5 arty max, maybe lower - which you can one shot most of the time

the lack of the turret is somewhat of a drawback but the thing is so maneuvrable it can still circle tanks, heck I killed a t50-2 in it XD

and as a TD it has very good camo values and a good gun , which can penetrate the side of all tier 8 tanks making it a good tank to just park in a bush letting the enemy to move past you and shot their behinds or run and kill arty

and like someoen said before it's a troll on tracks and I like to drive it more than the t50-2

another thing I've noticed is that people seem to ignore you for some reason , it happens that you just drive trough the enemy line and the enemy shots you and when you get some distance away they just forget about you, you see the more powerfull m24s t50-2s and vks being chased by meds and heavies till they're dead but everyone just seems to leave you alone and shot bigger more important targets so it's really easy to get at least 3-5 kills in tier 7 battles, maybe more

It definitely isn't dedicated scout, but I kinda don't agree with your conclusion. What does that have to do with its role? Wouldn't Chaffee also get spotted by another Chaffee at same distance? Or maybe even sooner, because Chaffee has higher profile?

edit: btw you missed it has awful radio range, i think only 360m :Smile_blinky:

Its such a little bug and great at killing tanks.I managed to take head on an is and tiger at the same time and managed to kill tiger and leave is with 400hp in about 2 3 mins of circling to finaly get killed by an t-50-2. It is so small and fast they could not turn and hit me and if they fired they missed.
I  am using a fighting setup(vents rammer and binos)and i get realy close and personal with it.I usualy die fast but i still manage to get some shots off.Best kill so far was a poor t110 from full to 0 in more than 2 mins of close range pwning:)

Seems like a good setup i have a different setup.

Camo net
Vents
Optics

Might drop Camo net for rammer hard choice.

This tank can even "side-hug" T-50-2.
You can see he just miss me :Smile_trollface-3:

Its a fantastic little tank and its only disadvantage "lack of turret" will be fine as soon as I play it properly.
Its against all instinct not to circle your victim.

I know I should do a run at the target fire at close range then keep going.
Later come back from a different direction and shoot again.

Needs an open map with some cover then its brilliant.
I do have hopes that I can play it as a TD eventually.

I can't help humming the 'Trolololololol...' song while I play it, every time.

EDIT:

Not a scout? :Smile_trollface-3:

Play it like a fighter plane; you choose a target, close the distance in a big loop, then turn and head straight for it, "dakka-dakka-dakka!!!!" then turn away.

it's a fast relocating camo TD.

+ alpha, penetration, camo, speed
- RoF, fixed turret, armor

shines in big open maps with bushes.

I tought that too at first, but it's accuracy on the move is really low, this tactic didn't work great on me.
