This thread is about the eXtended Visualization Mod, in particular the configuration file and online editor.

XVM is the combination of a GUI modification ( the old OverTargetMarkers mod ) optionally tied to an player statistics provider through a proxy. For more information about XVM, please use the link above.
XVM is distributed with multiple configuration files, varying from standard to user customized. These files can be found in the docs\examples folder included in the download. A thread containing usually more up to date configuration examples from users is located here on koreanrandom.com ( Russian language ).
The faq ( in Russian ) mentions available macros which can be used, additionally the examples folder contains a full config with all field descriptions.
If you have problems with a specific configuration, or with using the online editor, post them here. If you have made your own custom file ( if based on a template from someone else then please mention ) and want to show it off and share it with other users post them here. I will edit in the custom configurations made here in this post at regular intervals. Also, please mention which other mods are installed so know what's involved with getting the UI as shown in the screenshots. If you have reservations about sharing your configuration because you've used the configuration of someone else as basis, contact me as I'm willing to ask permission for you to share your edits as long as the original author(s) are referenced!
Useful links: IMPORTANT  NOTICE: Hasn't been updated since new configuration file format, will do this week ( week 38 )
Custom configurations

  • Author: mtm78 - post -no compilation screenshot - post contains multiple images
  • Author: mtm78 - post- no compilation, includes 4 different variations, screenshots in post.
You can also make requests here, though own initiative is required. If you've tried but can't get something to work, maybe someone else is willing and capable of editing your file for you or telling you what you're doing wrong so you can correct it yourself. I will list and update request at regular intervals.
The next post goes into using the online configurator, the following post takes a deeper look at the configuration file itself.
1. Using the online editor.
2. A closer look at the configuration file.

Work in progress, currently showcases the UI and goes some of the options but will be extended with some examples.

The online configuration editor

  • Common
    Posted Image
    <white line="">
    The Common tab allows entering information about the configuration ( author, description, url, the date the configuration was made and the supported game and mod version  numbers ).
    <white line="">
    Common settings include:In game players statistics ( only in XVM-Full )
    • Enable tank icon mirroring - enable if your icons do not have text, otherwise disable. Causes icons to face each other ( eg be mirrored ) when enabled.
    • Show postmortem tips - enables postmortem tips when enabled
    • Remove panel mode switcher - removes the panel mode switcher
    • Enable highlighting of your vehicle icon and squad - False disables highlighting of selected vehicle icon and squad.
    • Hide XVM version number in battle - Hides the xvm version during battles.
    • Use standard vehicle markers - Use standard vehicle markers ( eg the Markers tab settings are ignored )
    • Clock format - Formatting for the clock in the loading screen ( leave empty to hide, see macros for formatting options ).
    • Clan icons folder - should point to the folder where the clan icons are stored, relative to 'res_mods\*game_version*\gui\flash' ( * only applies to 2.5.2 test2 and above! )
      Spoiler
    • Enable player statistics ( global switch ) - enables the player statistics, only available in XVM-Full
    • Enable loading enemy stats in 'Fog of war' - Loads enemy player statistics even in games with 'Fog of War'
      <white line="">
  • Markers Panel
    <white line="">
    This section does not follow panel order exactly, this is intentional to show the effects of the toggle buttons.
    <white line="">
    The Markers tab allows configuring the in UI customization options.
    <white line="">
    • Vehicle class markers
      <white line="">
      This allows configuring the vehicle class markers ( HT, MT, LT, SPG, TD ). In the following screenshots they are turned on and off.
      Posted ImagePosted Image
      <white line="">
    • Selection toggle options
      Posted Image
      <white line="">
      These toggle buttons define for which options your settings apply. You can define settings separately for friendlies and enemies, alive or dead players, normal and alternate view ( activated by pressing 'alt' in game ), or in any combination you want.
      <white line="">
      If you look at the previous screen shots, you can see that the vehicle icon's visible checkbox was unchecked for Allies and enemies which are alive, in normal view. If we now also toggle extended view like this:
      <white line="">
      Posted Image
      <white line="">
      You will notice that the option has a yellow color and a tooltip indicating conflicting values. This is because in alternate view, the marker was not turned of ( which is perfectly fine, the warning is there to make sure you know there are different values selected for your toggled marker targets ). The result of this 'conflicting' value is that in normal view the icon is not displayed but in alternate view it is:
      <white line="">
      Posted Imagehttp://img232.imageshack.us/img232/8518/selectiontoggleexample1.th.jpg
      <white line="">
      If the option has an exclamation mark behind it, it means that it's a marker which has not been created for one of your selected mode's. Again this is perfectly fine as you will likely have many markers which are specific to either normal or alternate view, and perhaps only a few shared one's.
      <white line="">
      By pressing the exclamation mark, the selected marker will be shared among all selected mode's. Notice that this makes it a shared marker and any changes done in one mode will also apply to the modes the marker is shared with.
      <white line="">
      If you have multiple modes selected, any marker you make are shared, if you want to remove the marker from one mode but keep it in the others, select the mode you want to remove the marker from and delete it as it won't affect any modes not currently selected.
      <white line="">
      Use this to configure what information is visible and when.
      <white line="">
    • Health bar
      Posted Image
      <white line="">
      The health bar is the colored bar which shows how the current health relates to the max possible health.
      • Visible - toggles visibility of the marker for the selected mode ( ally/enemy/dead/alive/normal/alternate )
      • X position - toggles x coordinate of marker
      • Y position - toggles y coordinate of marker
      • Transparency - toggles transparency of marker, can be set to a fixed percentage, or use any of the dynamic transparency macros
        http://img211.imageshack.us/img211/7725/transparencypopup.th.jpg
      • Color - selects color of marker
        Selecting a color can be done in two ways
        1. A color pallete which allso accepts hexadecimal color values ( but only displays the 216 web safe colors! ). * See tips and tricks
        Posted Image
        2. Any of the defined dynamic colors ( see further below ).
        Posted Image
      • Color 2 ( gradient ) - the first color is used when the vehicle is at full health, selecting a color here will change the bar color when loosing health using the gradient between color 1 and color 2.
      • Width - Select the width of the health bar
      • Height - Select the height of the health bar
      • Border size - Select a border size, set to 0 for no border
      • Back color - Select a background color to draw behind the healthbar, visible when the tank is loosing health and the bar's width diminishes
      • Back transparency - Set a transparency for the back color.
      • Fill transparency - Set a transparency for the fill color.
      • Damage color - Sets a color to use when a vehicle is hit, used in animating the health bar
      • Damage transparency - Set's a transparency for the damage color.
      • Damage fade time - The time it takes for the health bar animation to go from the previous health to the new health.
        <white line="">
    • Damage text
      Posted Image
      <white line="">
      Damage text configures how the scrolling damages are shown in game. The 'display time' and 'move range' values work together in setting up the animation, for instance a low display time and high move range mean a really fast animation. Longer display times or lower move ranges slow the animation down. Display time does not allow decimals. The settings from the mode toggle 'dead' will be applied to the last damage before a vehicle is destroyed.
      <white line="">
      Damage text
      • Color - system color ( default ) uses green for allies and red for enemy, but you can set them manually.
      • Display time - The time the text is on screen
      • Move range - The range in coordinates the text will travel ( upwards )
      • Damage message - The message to display ( by default the macro {{dmg}} which shows the amount of hitpoint being removed )
      • Blowup message - The message to display when a tank is ammo racked.
      • Font name - name of the font, or one of the predefined fonts ( default: FieldFont = Arial, TextFont = Tahoma )
      • Font size - size of the font
      • Algin - alignment of the font ( left, center, right )
      • Bold - Check to use a bold font
      • Size - The size of the resulting shadow.
      • Strength - Luminosity of the light source
      • Angle - the angle where the shadow should show up, with 0 being on the right
      • Distance - Offset where the shadow appears
      • Color - the color of the resulting shadow
      • Transparency - sets a transparency for the resulting shadow
        <white line="">
    • Contour Icon
      Posted Image
      <white line="">
      Contour icons are class ( by default ) or possible vehicle icons ( when using a mod pack for individual vehicle icons for instance )
      <white line="">
      Posted ImageThis is an example taken from Oxmaster's version of PogS by GREPA ( clearcolor simple pack ). Post
      <white line="">
      Settings specific for Contour icons;
      • Tint color - tint the icon using the selected color
      • Tint amount(%) - The percentage of tint to be applied to the icon
        <white line="">
    • Clan Icon
      Posted Image
      <white line="">
      The Clan Icon is the icon identifying the clan to which a player belongs, if any. From 2.5.2 you do no longer have to make any additional entries to the configuration files, only point it to the root folder containing the icon sets.
      <white line="">
    • Level Icon
      Posted Image
      <white line="">
      The level icon is the icon which identifies the vehicle tier. This is the standard icon WoT uses. From 2.5.2 you can use the macro {{rlevel}} in a text field to display the vehicle tier in roman numerals.
      <white line="">
    • Action Marker
      Posted Image
      <white line="">
      The action marker is the marker being displayed for in game player actions; targeting an enemy and using any of the quick commands ( Help!, Attack!, Back to base!, Follow me!, Affirmative!, Negative!, Attack my target! ).
      <white line="">
    • Text Fields
      Posted Image
      <white line="">
      Text fields are used for in game information displaying.
      <white line="">
      When selecting a field, the name of the field is displayed in the second grey bar 'Text field: xxxxxxxxxxx'
      <white line="">
      Giving fields a good name is highly recommended, for instance fields which should only be shown in alternate fields could have an 'ALT' prefix, fields which are shared/common could have a 'SHR' prefix, and fields only applying to a friendly or enemy could have 'ALLY' or 'ENEMY' prefix. This will help with both keeping oversight if you're using a lot of markers, and for being able to edit the xvmconf file manually.
      <white line="">
      Here we first encounter an input which accepts text formatting ( also, see macros ). Clicking on the dropdown button gives the following popup;
      Posted Image
      <white line="">
      This is a quick way to enter XVM macros, you can put multiple markers in one Text Field but you can not apply individual coloring to them using the online editor.
      <white line="">
      To add something like Global Win Rate, click on the + icon in the list of fields, select the new field and give it a name ( 'ratio' makes sense, if it's only for extended view add a prefix like ALT, making it ALT-ratio.
      <white line="">
      To color the field according to the color scheme defined for win rate, click on the macro button next to the color field and select ( or just type ) {{c:ratio}}. The online editor will not show dynamic colors yet though but in game it will.
      <white line="">
      Go to Text Format, and click on the macro button next to the field and select ( or type ) {{ratio}}. The default 'TEXT' shown in the preview window will now show '54%'.
      <white line="">
      Move the marker to the position you like, change font settings as you which, apply a shadow ( shadows create contrast so the text is easier to read, my default settings are size 2.0, strenght 1550, distance 0, angle 0, color black ( depends on the text colors ) and transparency of 85% ). That should be it, you've added your first Text field marker!
      <white line="">
  • Loading screen
    Posted Image
    <white line="">
    The Loading screen allows customizing the following options:Use the macros to create your own preferred information and format them as you want.
    • Clock format - Leave empty to hide, otherwise Y=year, M=month, D=day,H=hour, N=minute,S=second
    • Show chance to win ( only in XVM-Full ) - When checked, the chance to win as calculated using this formula is shown
    • Show experimental chance to win formula - check this to display the chance to win as calculated by per vehicle formula ( link above )
    • Remove squad icons - removes icons identifying platoons
    • Show player/clan icons - check to display player/clan icons ( you can download icon packs from here )
    • various placement and adjustment settings, should speak for themselves.
    • Left vehicle name text format
    • Right vehicle name text format
      <white line="">
  • Statistics form
    Posted Image
    <white line="">
    The statistics form is what is visible by pressing TAB in battle. The options match the loading screen, with the exception of the clock which is not available on the statistics form.
    <white line="">
  • Players Panel
    Posted Image
    <white line="">
    • Common players panels settings
      • Panel transparency - select transparency level for panels
      • Icon transparency - select transparency level for vehicle icons
      • Remove squad icons - check to remove icons identifying platoons
    • Player/clan icons
      • Show player/clan icons - check to display player/clan icons ( you can download icon packs from here )
      • various placement and adjustment settings, should speak for themselves.
    • "medium"players panel mode
      • Player name width - adjust value to select panel width
      • Left player name text format - use macros to freely customize this field
      • Right player name text format - use macros to freely customize this field
    • "medium2" players panel mode
      • Vehicle name width - adjust value to select panel width
      • Left vehicle name text format - use macros to freely customize this field
      • Right vehicle name text format - use macros to freely customize this field
    • "large" player panel mode
      • Player name width - adjust value to select panel width
      • Left player name text format - use macros to freely customize this field
      • Right player name text format - use macros to freely customize this field
      • Left vehicle name text format - use macros to freely customize this field
      • Right vehicle name text format - use macros to freely customize this field

<white line="">

Sadly this does not yet have any preview available, so it's a bit trail and error to get it exactly right ( panel widths just large enough to hold all the formatted info ).

<white line="">

  • Colors
    <white line="">
    Here you can configure the colors for the Markers tab.
    <white line="">
    • System colors
      Posted Image
      <white line="">
      System colors are predefined colors, they can be applied to target markers instead of dynamic or specific custom colors by selecting 'Use system color' in the color macro dialog.
      <white line="">
    • Dynamic colors
      Posted Image
      <white line="">
      This allows settings the range values for dynamic coloring, on this screenshot for coloring by health amount. You can edit the range limits and add or remove range values and accompanied color settings.
      <white line="">
      *note about the color picker, it only supports 216 safe html colors, but XVM itself does not have this limitation. The color picker below the editor can help you select colors, or use any the links in the tips and tricks section below.
      <white line="">
  • Transparency
    Posted Image
    <white line="">
    Here you can set dynamic transparency values which can be applied on certain Markers. You can add/remove and edit range limits and corresponding transparency values. The editor only allows setting values for transparency based on health amount or health ratio as transparency based on stats is not yet implemented.
    <white line=""/>
    *not yet implemented macros
    {{a:eff}} - transparency based on efficiency
    {{a:rating}} - transparency based on win rate
    {{a:kb}} - transparency based on kilo battles ( kilo battle = 1000 battles )
    <white line="">
  • Icon Sets
    Posted Image
    <white line="">
    Here you can set your paths for your possible custom icon packs. Most mod packs will be placed in these default locations but if not you can set your own paths. It is also possible to use one set of icons for in game contour icon's, and another one for the loading/statistics screens by just pointing them to different locations.
    <white line="">
  • Vehicle names
    Posted Image
    <white line="">
    Here you can edit vehicle names to your liking, changes here will reflect in any field in the loading screen, statistics screen, players panels and markers where {{vehicle}} is used.
* Combine/Merge configurations.
Posted Image
<white line="">
Above the editor, the 'New config' has a dropdown option which allows merging settings from different files. If you have a fully customized Markers section set up how you want it, but you would like to use the same loading screen as you seen in another example, you can use this option. Load your own, select 'merge' -> make sure only the sections which you want to load from the secondary file are selected and press 'ok'.

Tips and tricks

1. Creating your own color scheme.

Background info about colors. colorwheels and palettes. Tools
  • perbang.dk, a great site with many tools related to color picking and palette making
  • colorschemer.com which offers an online creator ( not the options which perbang.dk has )
  • colorhexa.com which can show you which colors are most likely to not work for color blind people.
  • febooti.com which has a color chart picker which can give you nice lists by selecting the two ending colors and the number if steps needed
Wish list for online editor:

  • Battle loading, Statistics form and Players panel preview.
  • If possible ( allow access to local file system ) allow using preview with any custom icons.

I know, I link to both that thread and the one on koreanrandom with custom user configurations.

But, the 'official' xvm topic does little in explaining how to use the online editor let alone manually editing the options.

This focuses on those things, and I hope people will help each other to create their own custom configurations, and sharing them here.

Thanks for putting that link up at this preliminary stage.

Finishing the initial layout and markup is taking me longer then expected ( had to merge some images, and am still adding/making things up along the way ).

I'm hoping that this will reduce spread out requests for help by having a central place to talk about and help people create their own configurations or adapt examples from others to their liking. Off course this also means I hope people will allow sharing their files with the community, and to help others with specific questions.

Once the topic is up and running, duplicating it to other forums is always an option.

Thanks, for linking and for being a part of the community behind XVM :Smile_honoring:

Nice config, I like how it's not cluttered to much, and it seems your choice of colors are good to read ( judging from the screenshot ).

ArtOfWars, I recon it's something in your text editor as it looks fine here.

Try the same editor as me, it's free, lightweight and can do a whole lot more then it's namesake, so it gets a few pluses :Smile_blinky:

Notepad ++

This weekend I'll have enough time to finish most of the initial content I wanted to put into the guide, and hopefully also complete my config file using test 2.5.2.

I asked sirmax if using lf was intended behavior for the editor to safe with lf as newline char, it apparently was not since it will be changed next week so anyone can use notepad to edit the xvmconf files ( well anyone using Windows instead of linux ).
