Performance: running world of tanks on a mac

ProfessionalProgamerer's Photo ProfessionalProgamerer 18 Aug 2012

Hi,

I run world of tanks on my i7 iMac under bootcamp. However i can not take advantage of my audio set up (I was a pro dj/music producer) which is not compatible with windows. Anyone had experience running WOT using Parallels or any other VM?

Many thanks

Its a lot (!) slower in a virtual environment. Not worth trying, except you like to play with 5-10 fps. Im playing on a Mac too and well, Bootcamp is the only option that gives performance.

I dont want to turn this into a mac pc debate. I was hoping you guys would be intelligent about that :) Macs are used for very specific reasons that completely blow windows out of the park. However for gaming I agree they are not geared towards that. I could buy a gaming PC but tbh i cant be arsed. I run WOT at 50 FPS on high settings on my 2560×1600 27 inch screen :Smile_glasses:

lol that's not my intention. As stated I was expecting/ hoping for an intelligent response without the need to compare platforms. :) I have grown up with PCs from the 80s. I switched in 2007 because Vista didn't cut it and the applications and hardware I use to produce don't support windows because the native audio drivers aren't optimized.

Dont mind the trolls .. They are just jelly ..

Im on a Late '07 MBP with 8600GT. Runs okayish with 25-30 fps on med-high settings in 1680x1050. (To all the bashers, yes, thats a nearly 6 years old Notebook that still runs the game with perfectly playable performance, i wanna see yours do the same ..) But i think ill either upgrade to the comming iMacs or a new MBP this year, who knows.

hi i dont know much about macs but have a mate who has mac and he wanted to try wot.
your post got me thinking that this forum could use a mac help section. mac is not officialy supported i think but looks that people play it regardless.
some general tips and posts at least what software and hardware you use and what your experience is would be cool...

3 steps:

1) Buy
2) A
3) Real gaming PC

You see, nobody ever says to buy a gaming Mac, it has a reason...Apple is just designed to make people think they need overly priced noobshit to make their lifes a bit more fulfilling. Somehow Apple has the best marketing strategy out there as lots of people fall for it...

Actually apple is designed to make people like you don't know anything about a mac and still rant about it on forums look dumb  ;)

You just have to install Windows using Bootcamp and you are ready to go. Its a matter of 20 minutes and 2 mouse klicks (once you klick on the Bootcamp manager and the second klick is for the question if you are really sure to install windows lol)

I know more enough then enough about apple products to know their users are constantly whining about anything anyway. They also can't even think that a PC is actually better suited at just about anything (included price) then a mac...except for the graphical effect.

So you tell me a PC is better suited for the Mac only software i need for work ? Interesting .. You really seem to know a lot about them. Also, please explain me how i get everything done 50% faster on a mac than on a pc with the same software running on both systems ?

Anyways, noone forces you to buy one, but i dont know one single person who would ever touch a pc again after he spent some days on a mac. Maybe its the brainwash waves emitted by the wifi chip, or maybe it really has superior usability and its not just a myth ..
