After reading the posts, all of them can be used effectively. I loved the F30 on my T-28, it was an EVIL THING, but on the KV1 i use the 57mm because of its fast reload, and good accuracy. Almost the same pen, dmg and really surprisingly fast stuff, killed lots'o' KV1-s, pzIV-s head to head, just needs a little bit of aiming.

Yes, KV1 with 122 mm is joke. Its a joke to see a hetzer to take position in fron of me to hit me, and joke to see to blow it up. Its a joke to see a PzIV to blow up if i can hit i from the side, and joke to see it to blow up by the second frontal hit. So KV1 with 122 mm HE gun can earn 20-30K money from one match. If you play below of equals your tier you will probably win. If you play with tier 7 tanks, you can hit them with 50-100 damage per shot frontal. With 85 mm gun is nearly impossible unless you can target him from the side.
As with my IS I enjoy to see a kv1 want to kill me with the 85 mm gun from my frontal. He will be and easy target and my IS will as healthy as before. But KV1 with 122 mm gun will hurt me about 100-200 damage cos KV1 will hit me 1 or 2 shot from the kv1.

Depends on what you want.
57mm... I rarely see that gun as it has rather pathethic usefulness against higher tier vehicles BUT will decimate everything below your tier.
122 howitzer is the ultimate troll gun for this tier. You get well armored platform able to one-shot lower tiers and tackle higher ones. This is, in my opinion the only gun that allows you to win against GOOD Churchill player.
85mm - good all rounder with moderate accuracy and penetration, but decent alpha and reload time. Works best in most situations but is not really reliable against higher tiers, but will deal with most tanks of the same or lower tier with the exception of other KV-1 or Churchill.

I think that people need to learn to aim. I am not saying this as an insult, it is just my experience. If two KV-1 slugs it out, the one that actually aims, wins. If two KV-1 slugs it out, one using the 85mm and the other the 122mm, the 85mm will win if he aims. If both just blast away then the 122mm will win because of the splash damage.

85mm all the way for me, and I got over 2 K battles in my beloved KV-1. Crew is at 383%, btw...

I preffer 122, its fun 400+ dmg to Tiger from side, almost full Lorraine (at tier 8) killed all crew, tier 5 meds light and lower 1 hit kill, killing many who was hiding behind corner. Even tier6 on 2 hits.

57mm...you can kill any tier 4/5 and most 6's with it, much faster than with the 85mm...if you miss, who cares, you can fire again in 2 secs

it's also pretty successful against a lot of tier 7s, purely because of the sheer volume of fire you can direct at them

i got my mastery badge with the 122mm back before the MM changed. It was the best gun for Patch 7.4.
i do not use the 57mm because i have a churchill and one machine gun is enough for my taste. (and it works better on the churchill as you face max Tier6)
I'm currently back to the 85mm just to get a feeling how the tank performs with it, if i do not like it i will go back to the 122.

Recently played it on a friends account and would say above all very fun tank XD 122 and 57 (with rammer, vents and 100% crew both :P ) are the way to go : ) 122 is more of a moneymaker i believe while the 57 with the above is sort of a "nasty surprise" to the enemy and can end some encounters quite quickly ;)

If you know how to aim into weakspots, then 57mm is the killer. It is as good as 57mm ZiS-4 from T-34 armor.

85mm one is not bad if you shoot without aiming into weakspots.

I did not bother with 122mm one, will try howitzer on KV-2 instead.

57mm gun for sure, I used it on KV-1, T-150 and T-34 (That version is called ZiZ-4, but still same gun when you look at the numbers)
NEVER, in ANY of those tanks, have I felt that it wasn't enough. I recall a battle where I blew up an ARL 44, an M18 and a Hetzer in the stock, I repeat, STOCK T-150, no upgrades other than that outrageously oversized machinegun. As long as the enemy tried to peek-a-boom at you, he is as good as gone, I recall a battle in Ensk where I blew up an ARL 44, an M18, a Hetzer and a KV-1S on the regular heavy tank peek-a-boom area in the town center, how I hear you ask?, Well.

M18 shot me, tracked him when he rolled back to cover.
ARL 44 shot me, tracked him when he rolled back into cover.
One shell for M18s tracks, one for ARLs. Hetzer comes up next to M18, one shot for him.
One for M18, one for ARL, one for Hetzer.
One for M18, one for ARL, one for Hetzer.
One for M18, one for ARL, one for Hetzer, he blows up.
One for M18, ARL uses repair kit on his right track, rolls up and fires, rolls back, I put two shots on his left one and he's stuck halfway out of cover again.
One for M18, one for ARL.
One for M18, one for ARL.
One for M18, he blows up, one for ARL.
One for ARL.
One for ARL. KV-1S rolls up next to ARL, two shots for him before he even gets his turret out to fire.
One for ARL, he blows up. One for KV.
One for KV.
One for KV.

Granted, it sounds pretty boring, but looking at the numbers, they hit me with 5 shells, out of which only the ARLs and M18s 3 shells did any damage. I on the other hand, kept them all almost permanently tracked while my team... Idk, they must have done something on the east side of the map since we won... The important thing is that we won and that the enemy topdogs spent half the game immobile, thus effectively removing them, M18 and Hetzy, from their team, and it costed my team one Tier 6 tank, one Tier 6 that was still rolling afterwards.

If you want firepower and the maximum of peek-a-boom efficiency, go for the 122mm.
If you want to penetrate what you hit, average accuracy and DPM, the 85mm is the best choice.
The 57mm trollgun however is imho the best you'll get.
Good penetration.
Awesome Rate of fire.
Outrageous accuracy for a Russian gun, even by German Tier 5 standards it can be called excellent.
Together with the Russian aim time, you can say that at range your effective ROF will be quite low, but that's the price you pay and I have to say that to me it seems quite cheap since it lets you do anything, flank, brawl or snipe, it is the gun that turned my T-34 into a 59% WR pwnmobile and finally, although at a great cost, tought my little brother how to play this wonderful game.

85mm is the best compromise, but the 122mm is damn fun... Especially when you're top dog and no one hurts you. I usually get about 10-13k profit with the 122 in a good game which we win, but loses aren't painfull either, so it won't tear a hole in your budget, only that you'll get only 2-3k profit. Well, if you play horrible (you don't hit, don't detect and you die) it will make you loose a bit of money, but not more than 1k I guess. On the other side, a great game will bring you about 20-25k PROFIT.
