Why is it that whenever anyone posts on this forum - about anything - there follow inevitable 'L2P' comments?

The Chaffee is the top US light - it is a research dead end - you only go for it if you really want it - and then when you get there you find they fkd up the top turret.  The aesthetics are wrong - the history is wrong (no change there then) - the top turret is actually a penalizing upgrade because it is a much bigger target.

It is a one off trial turret that was never produced because it is shit - and it is a one off trial turret that was never meant to sit on top of a Chaffee.  Refer to the images in the OP.  Either give me the historic Chaffee turret or if you must - then the Bulldog turret.  After all - view range - armour - hit points etc are only numbers in a program - they can anything you want - you don't have to lumber the US answer to the T50 -2 with an enormous head of a circus freak.

I don't believe I said the Chaffee needed a buff - or that I am failing with it.  I said - the turret is wrong - too big for the chassis - AND worse of all - nearly doubles the hitbox of the whole tank.  This is the unbalancing factor.  It has not got the armour to cope - this oversize turret increases the chances of getting hit from distance while moving - and it makes it harder to hide behind cover.  I don't think this has been done for 'balance' - I think it is an oversight - I think the design came first - without much thought to the actual in-game consequences.

Or maybe am I wrong - maybe the second turret does not create a bigger target hitbox?   ?

What does the bigger turret give you?
  • view range +7,5%
  • penetration +30% (top gun)
  • RoF +13% (top gun)
  • average damage +19% (top gun)
  • (uglyness, but this ain't a beauty contest)
  • horse power weight ratio -7.6%
  • higher chances of being hit
  • less cover (bushes, ditches)
These are the two sides of the coin.

Idealy the vehicle commander should take these attributes into account when taking the pro's, hence he should act accordingly on the field.
The mantra mentined before summarizes this understanding in a single line.
The consequences to the commanders play style may be survire.

It took me a while to realize that my M24 Chaffee experience can improve my Patton game play.
The M24 Chaffee is also called a Mini Patton, maybe your Patton experince will help you mastering the M24 Chaffee.
The vehicle is more fragile, the commander should be a little less aggressive.
Give it a try!
Watching other M24 Chaffee replays in action will ease the learning curve.

This vehicle is available for more than one year now.
I don't think it is an oversight by the game designers.
