tier 7 tank german or russian

Hippopotamus_Rex's Photo Hippopotamus_Rex 04 Oct 2012

Driving a Tiger was probably my most horrible and disappointing experience in this game. It was like year ago, so something surely has changed, but still shooting AT Tigers is enjoyable and profitable sport.

My memories from that time:
- everyone is shooting at you as soon as you are spotted for free credits and exp, you are basically training punchbag;
- shit paper armor, no slopes, relatively big target with mediocre agility and speed;
- meds don't really fear you with your weak damage, agile medium will drive you to death with pleasure, maybe trading 200-400 of his own;
- trying to snipe higher tiers don't hurt them enough and you will often bounce their front plates from distance anyway;
- being top tier heavy tank is probably even worse than when lower tier, as you are taking a spot for someone who could actually lead the attack. Tiger simply can't, it dies too quickly. I ding more shots with KV13 and VK3601(H) (the latter 1 tier lower medium).
- as "support tank" you must have someone to support, when top tier - you will support lower tiers heavies and meds or smth, when IS'es, T29's and KV3's would decimate everyone else to extinction, you may hurt them a little in the process.
- and today T50-2 can penetrate even front sometimes, not to mention sides and rear, not to mention French lights;

On a plus:
- you have accurate gun with decent RoF, capable to shoot weakspots;
- and... I don't really know more advantages.
Bottom line: in most battles you are not really heavy. You must also deal with retarded opponents to reach Tiger "full potential". Luckily, you will meet them often, but still...
I don't know how exactly IS performs, still 20k exp to reach it, but in-game (driving anything) I don't fear Tiger and prefer to face them than IS's.
Also, please note that not all maps provide real sniping opportunity, when you can actually shoot from cover, in the same time there are much, much more situations when you fight in close distance, and soviet tanks are in advantage.

Well, I suspect that in proper circumstances, with careful and very good play Tiger can be even useful, but every single, tiny mistake will be punished with no mercy. There is of course this funny meme that "good player will perform well driving anything", maybe so, I say the same good player would perform BETTER on anything else.

Blah. Never more.

On the other hand I found Tiger II as good and reliable (but it might be caused by huge relief of thrashing it's predecessor at last...) and E75 is good as well, and I really like it.

both vehicles are great and have a permanent place in my garage. i think tier 7 in probably the best balanced tier in this game.
when 2 tier  heavys meet it really comes down to player skill.

My experience with the Tiger isn't going that well at the moment , but I think it's more down to how I prefer to play then the tank itself. I'm not really good at sitting back and sniping from range , as I much prefer to be up front, and in the thick of it....so when I do that in the Tiger , I just end up getting picked to bits by pretty much everything.  It's armour is okay , but it's the lack of any sloping that lets it down , so clever angling is required , and I obviously don't have that skill in the quantity required for this tank , haha..... The IS on the other hand , is good at being upfront and personal, and while it CAN snipe at distance , it can't match the Tiger for accuracy.  I'd say that the IS was more user friendly , and more forgiving when you make mistakes , and its top gun dishes out oodles of damage compared to the Tiger.  Alternatively.....consider the American T29 heavy..... in a good hull down position , this tank is quite a boss ..... it's pretty handy sniping at distance too, and it's top gun is almost on par with the IS's for damage dealing......My favourite tier 7 heavy so far......gun depression is great for peeking over crests , and the front of its turret causes problems for even some tier 9's to penetrate.  Good luck and enjoy whatever line you choose  :Smile_honoring:

Small update, I just bought IS, and it's awesome, even without best gun and better tracks yet (currently using 100 mm D-10T).

16 victories in 20 matches is lucky and not meaningful yet (though pleasant :)), but simply driving it is just great.

Also, I earned a few Sniper medals on it. (one actually, overexcitement)

Oh, and crew has 87%, I wonder what it would be when elited... :Smile_veryhappy:

I personally would go for the tiger since the russian lines are a bit too generic imho

Just to add my opinion, I haven't got an IS yet but I have got the Tiger, an I have to say...it's an absolute beast, I love it!

I don't know these other players experiences, but I had a blast with my Tiger (and quite alot of success as well), and I felt most suited my playstyle (I'm kind of a stand-offish player). The trick to playing it is to angle your tank, and to keep your distance from your enemy in order to take full advantage of your accuracy bonus. Making use of cover is adviseable too, but that goes for every tank.

So, to answer the OP, if you're a long range player like me, go German, but if you're a brawler (which I'm guessing goes for the players above me), then you are probably better off with a russian tank.

I do agree with you on the genericness of the Russian tanks, too bloody many of them! :)

Like you I am more of a sniper than a brawler.  However i found the tiger quite difficult to play well even with 100% crew I struggled to get over 46%.  its a big target with paper thin armour and very slow; if you get in trouble you are finished.  Same with T29 but i fell this is better bet, just put the 105 on mine and it deals some damage now.  But this also took a lot of battles to get the hang of. Sold the tiger after i upgraded to KT and couldnt think of any reason to hang on to it. Overall my opinion is the IS is most versatile (but never played it)

Tiger - test of your skill( snipeing doesn't exist in this game)
IS - " Easy Mode On " ( use Přek-a-Boot taktics )

dont think too mutch about t7, t7 is only a road to t10
what t10 to get should be your question.

Not all players find this view practical, as for many tier 6, 7 and 8 battles are mmuch more entertaining than end-game Tier 10.

But even when comparing IS and Tiger in that way, I would recommend IS for sure.

I don't know why but every one tend to forget about Tiger P which in my opinion is the best tier 7 heavy with good front armor and precise Tiger gun, but this tank is a dead end with next tiers
are mediocre at best.

if i had to choose tier 7 right now and was thinking about the future tiers i would probably choose T29, it's second best on tier 7 and on tier 8 you will get T32 which is a god brawler tank and on tier 9 you will get M103
with awesome for its tier gun

Tiger P is akeeper for me. I enjoy it more than T29. Tiger and IS.... are just meh for me.
As stated Tiger P leads to utter crap later on - or lets say tanks that are very challenging.
Although my friend says Maus has gained a lot of its former glory with the 0.8...
