Do I sell my lower tier tanks?

Snowyvision's Photo Snowyvision 23 Sep 2012

Hey,

I'm a few days old to World of Tanks and I'm now Tier IV. In my garage I have my Tier I, II, III tanks too. I'm just wondering, every time I upgrade a tier and buy a new tank should I sell my lower tier tanks?

So, since I now have a Tier 4 tank, should I sell my Tier 3 2 and 1, and when I get to Tier V, sell my Tier IV tank? Or do I need to keep them for something?

Thanks

Well, unless you plan to buy a lot of garage slots, you're going to have to at some point.

By the way, Tier I tanks are free, so you don't lose anything by selling them, you can re-buy later if you want. (and Tier II/III tanks are cheap, so you don't lose much)

Keep T-5 and 6 for money making. After 7 u will see why!

One or 2 low tiers for fun is worth it. If you have the spare slots ofc.

No you don't need to keep them.

If you enjoy a particular tank keep it but otherwise it serves no real purpose.

Later on once you have more tier 8 tanks and up you will need to check how well you do in games as at that tier your income might actually go to negatives so you might either keep some lower tiers that you enjoyed or pick up additional research paths you can play with and earn money.

Simply keep tanks you enjoy........ Whatever tier.
you will KNOW when you have a tank that you HAVE TO KEEP.
and if you continue enjoying the game, maybe get a few slots when they are on a special.

Hell, keep them! They don't earn many credits, but it's a hell lot of fun to roar the battlefield with a Leichttraktor with an experienced crew and some added costly equipment. After more than 5.000 games played, I still enjoy Malinowka in a Leichttraktor, watching the Lemmings rush to a quick death and picking them off one by one. Or my T-82 or Marder anti-tank guns ... this game is about fun. You will not earn as much credits when killing 5 enemies in a Leichttraktor as when you get shot within 20 seconds in a Tier 6 medium, but you will earn much more fun.

Don't worry, there are always at least some experienced players in the game ... Tier 1 vs Tier 1 can be as exciting as Tier 10 vs Tier 10.

Having some low tier tanks with highly experienced crews is a really nice retreat after a dozen frustrating matches in a Tiger which always seems to be put into matches against Tier IX heavĂ˝ tanks ...

Keep your Tier 1 for fun unless you dont like it.
Sell tier 2
Sell tier 3 unless you want to keep it.

T3 has no point in keeping. T1 is free so you can sell and rebuy it anytime. T2 is also very cheap so sell it unless you like playing it.

Question i have is are you transfering the crew to the new tank. Or just bying the next tank with a new crew.

Shootingstarr's Photo Shootingstarr 24 Sep 2012

you should always transfer your old crew to your new tank
as I said: stock tanks are usually really, really bad
combine that with a stock crew and you might get frustrated pretty soon
so even if you plan on keeping your old tank, you're better off recruiting a new crew for it and transferring the old one

this only applies to same type tanks of course
so don't put your russian t-28 (medium tank) crew in your KV-1 (heavy tank), it's not worth it really
you're better off storing them in your barracks until you get another medium tank you can put them in

High tiers do not offer much else in terms of gameplay. They are less forgiving to mistakes, that's about it. Keep that in mind.

For the beginning player it might actually be good to stick to a tier II or III tank he enjoys, and play it at least until the crew is fully trained.
It's a good learning school for higher tiers.

Tier VII and higher can be diffidult to make money on (depending on your skills), so you will eventually want to keep one or two fun tier V or VI in your garage too.

Usually you don't get enough crew experience with Tier 4 or lower so training with silver (20K) to 75% is still required at Tier 5 vehicles. More or less so, there may be some exceptions like SPGs. Thus, transferring crew into new tanks is useful Tier 5 onwards.

Just keep the tanks you enjoyed playing.

When you reach higher tiers tanks get really expensive and to buy the next tank you probably have to sell your "old" one. Take your crew with you in your upgrading process. Until T5 or 6 you won't be able to reach a 100% crew by playing, if you are going for the next tank straight away, but retrain them always to 75%. Most of my crews are there from battle 1 for that branch of the tech tree. :)

I won't tell you what to keep and what not.

But I DO tell you to reconsider your approach to WoT.

Please understand that WoT is different from other MMOs: it's not about "grinding to the top level ASAP".
It's about playing tank-battles and having fun with that. And you get exactly that by pressing "Battle!" from the very first time.

WoT does not reward you for "advancing in the tech tree". Quite the opposite.

WoT rewards you for sticking to the tanks you have and becoming better with them. The more you play a tank, the better YOU become with it, the better the CREW becomes, the more silver you can invest to buy additional modules ti improve the tank even further.

There are several serious advice I like to give:
1. never ever use "free XP" to research a tank. "Free XP" should be used for modules only.
2. never ever take a tank to battle in "stock" condition. Play your elited tanks to collect enough "free XP" for the crucial upgrades before taking a new tank to battle.
3. never ever take a tank to battle without having trained the crew to 75% (with silver) before.
4. Don't sell a tank before the crew has reached at least 100% in their major qualitfication. You can't judge a tank before that. There are really, really few "bad" tanks in WoT. Even the most despised of tanks (like M3 Lee, AMX40 and others) can be "your" tanks, with which you can achieve great results. And you can be the worst in the world with the so-called "overpowered tanks", too.
5. Accept the fact that tiers are not "levels", but just number for the matchmaker. Higher is not "better", just different vehicles you meet on the field. "Higher" just means that you meet more players with thousands of battles' experience (not "better" players, just with lots of battles played)
6. Last, but not least: enjoy the game. Don't bother about "grinding". You spoil the fun with "grinding". Set yourself goals (but not "get tanks xyz ASAP") as motivation, but ENJOY THE TANK-BATTLES. That's what you're here for.

Add.: there are great vehicles in all tiers. Don't be ashamed to play well in a Panzer 2 or an MS-1 etc. If a tank suits you, enjoy it.

All of the above is the best advice that could be given. 5MilesOut has it all correct and I totally concur, even if I have double the number of battes.

Keep the tanks you have fun playing. If you ever want to convert exp for higher tier tanks, it's helpful to have a good selection of lower tier tanks. Even if you don't use them for exp they're helpful for generating credits.

I would echo the "keep it if its fun" sentiment!

I have taken advantage of the recent sales to buy a T49, having got rid of most of my tier 9 and 10 tanks (except IS4 and 7), and personally I am having more fun in my Easy 8, T49 and Vk3601h than I ever had in my T62A or E50!
