To troll, i keep seeing this word time & time again on this forum, i am curious, if the forums are here for people to post on them then why do people take offence & accuse them of trolling or being a troll? Now, i have to admit that i do understand that a troll is a creature of myth & has a connection to stone but, what it has to do with posting on a forum seems completely unconnected to me.
Forums are for people to post their opinions no matter what they might be or how many times they post. I do not see any rules on the amount of times that a person may post & if people were not meant to post then there would not be a forum!!
So, in summary, trolls are mythical creatures & not people that post on forums, spamming may be a better term to use maybe.

Google, now heres my next question, BEFORE the internet (ie, before the late 1970's) what was the word troll/trolling used for. Talk to someone 60 or older & you might well get a different answer than talking to the younger generation. Just a thought on how words can have thier meaning stolen & used as a completely different thing than its original meaning (check out spam & monty pythons spam song as an example http://www.youtube.c...h?v=anwy2MPT5RE this is the original spamming & not an internet thing!!)
What did we do with our words before the internet came along!!!

Well, basically "real" internet trolling is to mount unrest in a community. To pit the users against each other with insults and generally spread hate among them. Starting flame wars and such. Make the users batshit insane and laugh all the way through.

It's pretty much online anarchy.

However, most people think it's writing some joke or calling the OP gay and capsing "LOL I TROLL U LOLOLOLOOLO" and posting those overused trollfaces. Some think it's spamming like a guy above.

Those people are just boring fails.

Look, the point i am making is, BEFORE the internet (& yes, there was a time BEFORE the internet) trolls & trolling meant something else completely, it is only the internet & the users of the internet that take words & use them in a different way from the meaning of the words. Why, for example, dont they call it pixieing, elfing, gnoming or smurfing? Some younger people dont actually realise that the words existed way before the internet came along :-)
