No, I asked what exactly the trolling was in the video.

I did not attempt to troll. Are you an idiot or just stupid?

And no, I'm not trying to troll now either. I shouldn't really have to write that out.

This is what well-executed trolling does to a community - http://4.bp.blogspot...bal-Warming.jpg

I think this makes the post you replied to his only (successful) troll post... (in the original sense).

Oh Raptor Jesus, full of grace and protector of the lulz. Blessed be your 32k. I beg you, smite this heathen for the good of our cause.

"Raptor Jesus will kill Himself. And when His tainted spirit finds its destination, He will topple the master of that dark place. From His black throne, He will lash together a machine of bone and blood, and fueled by His hatred for you this fear engine will bore a hole between this world and that one.
When it begins, you will hear the sound of children screaming - as though from a great distance. A smoking orb of nothing will grow above your bed, and from it will emerge a thousand starving crows. As He slip through the widening maw in His new form, you will catch only glimpse of His radiance before you are incinerated. Then, as tears of bubbling pitch stream down His face, His dark work will begin.
He will open one of His six mouths, and He will sing the song that ends the Earth."

It might have been unintentional, but the closest to the old definition. He's keeping you in the discussion. Now the topic needs to take off so he can withdraw.

Look, the point i am making is, BEFORE the internet (& yes, there was a time BEFORE the internet) trolls & trolling meant something else completely, it is only the internet & the users of the internet that take words & use them in a different way from the meaning of the words. Why, for example, dont they call it pixieing, elfing, gnoming or smurfing? Some younger people dont actually realise that the words existed way before the internet came along :-)

It definitly changed during the internet age. It should be clarified to the world wide web age as the old meaning was still used when people chatted mostly over IRC. Most meanings changed with the services all jumping to the http bandwagon and wikis certainly didnt help. See http://xkcd.com/978/ .

In some cases it is kind of sad that the original meaning is lost and makes it hard to talk about something unless you know in which circles the person hung up. For example a twink used to be another character on an account (alt) who was outfitted with gear he was at least unlikely to have aquired at that stage (usually from the most advanced character on that account). Now that many games have mechanics to prevent that people in these games name all alts twinks and make no distinction.

Google, now heres my next question, BEFORE the internet (ie, before the late 1970's) what was the word troll/trolling used for. Talk to someone 60 or older & you might well get a different answer than talking to the younger generation. Just a thought on how words can have thier meaning stolen & used as a completely different thing than its original meaning (check out spam & monty pythons spam song as an example http://www.youtube.c...h?v=anwy2MPT5RE this is the original spamming & not an internet thing!!)
What did we do with our words before the internet came along!!!

Yes, words now mean something totally different to what they perhaps ment in the past.  "Gay" is a perfect example. That's how growing up works, the younger generations use different words or new words.  60 years ago you wouldn't hear people say "awesome", "dude", etc. Go back further and you'd never dream of calling someone by their first name, never mind call them something rude or explain to them in great detail what their mother did to you last night.

As generations come and go, words fall in and out of use, just like names. What's popular now won't be popular in 50 years time. Such is life. Trolling wasn't really a "thing" 10 years ago. Now it's something for bored people to pass their time because the internet allows them to be anonymous and the repercussions of their actions aren't felt by them.

I'm moving this to off topic as asking about Trolls isn't a newcomer issue, unless you're new to the internet in which case google and wikipedia can answer pretty much all of your questions and many more things you wish you never knew or thought about.
