Hello fellow tankers,

I would like to discuss your opinions on this gun. Personally I find it very useless and possibly bugged.

The thing is:
  • it fires in a very big arc
  • the shell is so slow that sooner or later somebody will make a WoT version of Matrix bullet dodging scene  :Smile_trollface-3:  :Smile_veryhappy:
But seriously, there is something really wrong with this gun. In its current form you can't really hit anything moving or effectively shoot back in peak-a-boo fights beacause when your shell is at the intended destination, the enemy tank surely is not!

The Wiki (I know it's not exactly realiable) has this info: Well, that is kinda slow, but the in-game version is useless.

I've heard that the 3.7" gun has a similiar "feature".

Your thoughts? :)

Edit: apparently the gun is useless in my hands  :Smile_veryhappy: it's either love or hate relationship it seems so far :)

Looks like it fires a giant marshmallow. It is however good for firing over things so can be highly amusing and lead to 'hacker' 'cheater' etc calls from the enemy. Open top td's and arty are your best freind  :Smile_blinky:

for me, not a problem. i had the 3,7 inch howitzer on my a10 and was very happy with it. its just something you have to get used to, and you kinda have to fight close combat only.
also you can one shot every tank in the same tier as the a10 and every tank below with this howitzer.

I'm a happy derper (Jumbo 105, KV2, (I)SU-152) so I'm used to slow(er) shells, but this is too much for me :)

It does good damage if it penetrates - true, but that will go away with the flood of paper armoured low tier british tanks I think. Even the derp in T18 wasn't always successful :)

Maybe it really should be this slow in comparison to other guns (their shells surely don't travel at real speeds, so there must be some ratio?), but "this isn't the derp I'm looking for" :)

Its a fucking shit weapon. I was excited at first for derp but it is tragic.

To be honest, I quite enjoy using the howitzer on the Cov. Of course it's not for long range due to it's low shell speed. Personally I prefer the close combat anyway, which for me makes this a fun derp against arty and other low tier. If you see anything T5-6 just avoid them, let your team tackle them. Main focus for me and this gun is getting round the back of the other team unseen to take out arty and campers.

Tried this gun once, thought id lagged out when took it ages to hit an enemy, and the aiming time is impossible

sounds like its working historically well - hitting tanks is not its purpose.

Yeah, its quite funny. Just a few moments ago I destroyed an A10 at about 300m. I said "whoosh, good he didn't shoot me" and then some seconds later BOOOM, oneshotted....by non other than HIM! That shell really took its time! :)

I will start calling that "post-mortem trolling"  :Smile_trollface-3:  :Smile_teethhappy:

A10 have MORTAR so you can shoot over obstacles. Epic on very close range, good at medium and long range but when firing at stationary targets.
Really bad for long range peekaboo, and shooting fast targets on medium range.

It's just very very different from every other gun, takes some getting used to.

Close range: no problem cos you're just smashing it straight into their face.

Medium range: I can't hit anything :(

Long range: Just pure entertainment. As long as you don't expect to hit anything you'll always be pleasantly surprised! Pop out, aim, aim, aim, FIRE, move back, rotate, move off, ENEMY DESTROYED. It's like posting them a parcel bomb.

I used it on A13, Matilda and Churchill. You have to play it like TD, and I have scored some one-hits aswell. Just the enemy has to be halt.

I get your point, but that's kinda hard to do in these low-tier battles (especially now with the british tank flood), not much stationary/slow targets :)

On the a13 I plated it like a arty, see some one in low cover fire over it, or I got bored in my game suicide scouted rammed there arty and fired

The one on A10 was pretty decent, even if not the best gun, as it could really bring out pain.

The 3 inch mortar on A13 is pretty crappy. I tried it out in 2-3 battles and barring really lucky hits, it just doesn't deal enough damage. With its pathetic penetration and small damage, it usually deals about same damage as the automatic gun... except it fires single, slow shells instead of TWO fast ones.

And yes, I was also surprised how sloooow the shell is flying. But since it obeys real gravity, you could technically shoot over most maps, making you into a mini-arty. Except you can't see enemies that far.

Come on, this gun is awesome! Shoot, 3 seconds later the kill text appears.

I actually like it on the A13. It isn't that much more unprecise than the 40mm and can deal quite a lot of damage against most enemies you encounter (except some heavies like the KV-1, they seem not very impressed by it). The best tactic for me is close distance hit-and-run, which works especially well against spgs, light tanks (one shot and boom) and most tier3&4 tds like the Marder II or the Su-85B which are more like self-propelled AT guns...

If only we had night battles, this would be great for firing illuminating shell. I did manage one kill by creeping up behind the enemy and resting the barrel on his rear deck. Otherwose nothing stays still long enough to hit. :(

I love the howitzer. You can do damage to pretty much anything at long range due to its artillery like angles. But as I've said before make sure the target has come to a stop. I have no problem doing long range shots with this one. I love it.

Pure awesome! This gun is the king of diving shots.

Just shoot it from max zoomed out arcade view instead of sniper, so you can utilize the high arc to shoot your opponent from a safe ditch or rubble pile without being seen or shot back at. Hilarious!

For me its the only way i can make any XP, i really, really dislike the double shot PomPom.

I have settled on two tactics, first is i sit back and wait for the main thrust to appear and then 9 times out of 10 some one will come along, stop, aim, and fire at some one else, then i let my aim come to a coincidence and boom.  I retreat, have a cup of tea and then wallop they are either dead or had most of their HP wiped off.

Second i 'rush' around and try and get close enough to fire on the move, always makes me giggle when i do and the dustbin of doom flies in and ruins some ones game.

It is almost like playing a TD i guess, which suits me fine.

I like the gun. :Smile_Default:
