hello fellow commanders

well just to start with i will say that the A13 is only a tiny bit better than the m3 lee, and thats still really bad.
i now have enough exp and free exp combined to get the crusader but i was a bit concerned over all the bad press it's getting in these forums.

now my question is this is the crusader worth grinding or is it more worth skipping?
i really want to get to the cromwell and the comet but i don't want another m3 lee like grind through the crusader.

if you would be kind enough to post your advice here it would be greatly appreciated.

yes, crusader is maybe the best tier5 light tank.
It's not a fast scout like classic tier5 lights but it has awesome gun depression and an excellent match making (tier7 top).
It has a very small and rounded turret that is really hard to hit with tier5 innacurate guns. I suggest you buy it and keep it since the crew can not be transfered to the cromwell medium tank (it has huge retrain penalty).

From your profile I see you haven't had much experience with scout tanks, which you really need to get the best out of the Crusader I feel. But the crusader is also a great tutorial for the Cromwell so I'll say buy it, but expect a steep learning curve.

Crusader it's a hybrid Light-Medium Tank...You can't play it as a clasic scout and yet from the other side you can't use him as a classic medium...So far I love the look of this litlle bug we will see...it is a fun play for me so far,He deserve a garage slot just couse his historical meaning in WW2....

Yes.  But it is an unforgiving tank to play.

i see so will this be a painful learning curve do you reckon?
cause i'm not looking for painful, i had enough of that with the A13 and m3 lee

it be good with this tank I find you need to be good at scouting, passive scouting is the best, get in some good cover with camo and bincos and light them up. Once the top tanks are knocked out then roll out to take out the remainder. If you can get that then you'll be all right. Its great MM mean you will never get more than tier 7 so your more evenly matched than other tier 5 scouts.

The crusader is very much a taste of the cromwell though, thin armour, great maneuverability, good gun (if a weak on damage). When you play this tank as a medium your playing it like the cromwell.

OK now take a look at this team sheet

Posted Image

I was second to bottom on this game, just check out the tanks I was up against, yet I got 519 base XP no bonuses for premium or daily double, the 6th highest score and 100% hp.

half was from my damage the other half from spotting damage.

because this thing is a light, you can just drive up behind a bush and get full camo from the bush right away, it does not matter if the bush is in visual range of a spotter unless they are really close and have binocks active. If you tried that in a T34 or any similar sized medium you would be visible driving up behind the bush then disappear a few seconds after you stopped.

if you fire from behind the bush not in it you can shoot away as long as you like and no one will spot you from that angle

Its rubbish, so far I've found all the brit tanks to be terrible and no fun to play, i'm hoping the Cromwell and the Churchill 7 both of which i'm close to now will change my mind.

The crusader is fine, It could do with a little less bleeding in tight turns, but otherwise it is good. I've managed 6 kills against tier 5-6 tanks in one match. The gun is fine for the tier and has reasonable hit points.

If you want a Chaffee that actualy looks good and gets Tier7 max, you get the Crusader.

Really enjoying it, 500xp for a major defeat. You cant stand still but played right you can chip quietly away at the enemy and do enough to turn a battle.

You need to stick with your team, no lone gunning

I've aced it but the grind was unpleasant. Nowhere near as unpleasant as the M5 one but still...

Chaffee with 115 dmg can actually damage things.

The Crusader with the base 2 pdr gun is useful only as a passive scout, especially when matched against the kind of opposition I had to fight. Shooting at almost all the ememy targets merely served to annoy them and make them aware of you. The amount of gun depression does allow for some interesting hull-down positions but thats no good if you can't actually damage anything. The 6 pdr is somewhat better but still not up to par for the usual level of opposition. The 3 inch howitzer is probably the most useless piece of ordnance currently available. Ramming is probably a better option than this gun. Life may be way too short to grind away to the Centurion.

That's the only gun on this tank that you can use to do some acceptable damage. Also it has good aim time.

okay thanks for the advice so far guys.
it seems there is a differing opinion of the crusader but the general impression i'm getting is that this is a team vehicle and hiding behind a bush with binoculars and a camo net and just spotting the enemies is the best way to use it. is that right?

It has its moments. Sometimes you'll do really well with it, but most of the time I found I was obliterated by a single artillery round, even when hidden behind bushes with a camo net. It's inability to take any damage makes it very fragile, the lower speed & lower agility compared to the Covenanter & A13 Mk. I & II mark it out as an easier target to hit. It's 6pdr can handle Lights & some mediums (forget T6 ones unless you're shooting their arses and even then you're likely to ding) but heavy tanks are extremely difficult - you either bounce on their armour or do a tiny amount of damage whilst they can total you in a single hit.

You can have games where it goes flawlessly for you and you earn loads of experience & credits but then I found I had many matches where it was either over quickly or I just had to roll along behind the heavys/mediums & hope people didn't pick on me. Mind you often my own teams heavies would pick on my A15, demanding I go and scout for them - one even pushed me out of a bush once in an attempt to get me to go scouting! It's a harsh life being a light tank - target for everyone. I've enjoyed the few matches I've played in the Cromwell far more than I did the A15.

I just soloed a KV1s with 716hp left doing three crits to defend base, also took out a tiger on 370hp and finished off a kv1 and another crusader.

I was the only one left on my team hehehe

did not win though, they still had a pz4 a t15o and a SU 100, which was a little bit to much for me to handle by myself

If Crusader was tier IV and Cromwell tier V, that would be awesome. Every other country has it's iconic medium tank (ZSSR: T34, Ger.: PzIV, USA: Sherman, France: well, the only medium FR had was Somua), while they are all equal,

Brits get the Matilda in tier 4. Iconic medium. The crusader is just as iconic if you're familiar with the desert war.
