Apologies if this thread has already been started elsewhere:
Just a quick note to say, whilst WoT is a fun game and not a simulator, it is war based so I just thought I'd pen a quick plea - today is Remembrance Day for many countries across the world, dedicated to remembering all of those killed, wounded or affected by loss during conflict. I'm not trying to start anything heavy or negative, just a plea to spare a thought for those who have suffered loss.

speaking as an ex soldier with 23 yrs service, who was unfortunate enough to lose two friends in iraq ( op telic 7 ) i wont forget :( but thanks for starting this thread.

Don't envy a man his medals, all those ribbons on his chest,
He did not try to get them, they're not there at his request,
They were earned in stinking hell holes, where no man would like to go,
Or in cold and wintry places, where there's only ice and snow.

He did not know he earned them, till they were awarded at parade,
They were bright when he first got them, but in time the colours fade,
He was told he had to wear them, and to wear them all with pride,
But when the memories come to haunt him, those same medals make him hide.

Cause those medals will not bring back, all those guys he left behind,
And he would trade them all forever, for a little peace of mind.
So don't envy a man his medals, you don't want to take his place,
Thinking back to long gone battles, and meeting dead friends face to face.

There is discipline in a Soldier, you can see it when he walks,
There is honour in a Soldier, you hear it when he talks,
There is courage in a Soldier you can see it in his eyes,
There is loyalty in a Soldier that he will not compromise.

There is something in any Soldier that makes him stand apart,
There is strength in any Soldier that beats right from his heart,
A Soldier isn't a title, any man can be hired to do,
A Soldier is the soul of that man, buried deep inside of you.

A Soldier's job isn't finished, after an 8 hour day or a 40 hour week,
A Soldier is always a Soldier even while he sleeps.
A Soldier serves his heart first, and his life is left behind,
A Soldier has to sacrifice, what comes first in a civilian's mind.

If you are civilian, I am saying this to you,
Next time you see a Soldier remember what they do,
A Soldier is a brainwashed mug, just like me and you!
Inside him burns a bigger love
Much bigger than me and you

So next time you see a soldier, remember what I say
He has lost and given much just so you can say
I have the oppertunity to give it all away

Hi AM_RFC; you're not alone in the sentiments - I'm a Herrick veteran, but did lose a good friend in Iraq when I was just finishing training so have an idea of what you are saying. I know some servicemen and women say they don't need a day to remember their friends as it's always with you, but I do appreciate the gesture when so many of the public rally in support of the armed forces of every nation. Anyhow, thank you for posting that wonderful poem, +1 from me.

here is a bit of a poem i made, may not be world class but it is my way to commemorate the fallen

Why do we fight?, how and when did this madness corrupt us?.
Is there any reason for this insanity, do we gain something by this havoc and sorrow?.
This creation of which, only misery and tears generates?.
How did it come to this?, why must this go on throughout the ages?.
The means and ways may change, but the result is yet the same wherever you look.
Is there something we may find in it which can't be discovered otherly, how did it come to this.
Why does brothers and sister's end their lifes, how can there be any meaning to it.
If this is how we reach advancment, why must we go through so much pain and sadness to gain it?.
Why does so much blood have to flow, for something that may require so few words.
Why do we have to reach an agreement, when loved ones will never meet their dear persons again?.
Is this what our kin was meant for?, is this really our fate?.
.....Why do we fight?.

laugh if you want, i know it is not good but just be honest about it.

Nothing to laugh about, I thought that was really thought provoking. That's a real talent you've got :)
