In my opinion, the 100mm D-10T has been a great puncher for the Russian medium tank. This is for T-34-85 and T-43 though; I'm not 100% sure about the T-44 (I don't have the tank).

After 146 battles with the T-34-85, the D-10T has been quite a reliable gun for it's 'recommended' tier.

Your concern about hull-penetration has interested me; I tended to face my enemy on the sides and back, rarely head on.

American heavy tanks (to T34) have been more successful penetrated via hull armour, I only bounce their hull if the tank is faced at me at a ~30 deg. angle. On the frontal armour try to aim at the lower half of the hull (or the mg point)

German heavy tanks (to Tiger II) have also been successfully penetrate from the hull armour. The frontal armour is quite tricky on the Tiger II; most Tiger II hunters know that the frontal 'chin' is the better place the hit. I've 'experimented' against them, and I believe hitting the 'chin' at 90 deg. gives a higher success rate of penetration than attempting to shoot at any angle more than 20 deg. The sides are relatively easier to penetrate, but avoid hitting the actual tracks I tend to do 'critical hits' than lay damage.

Russian heavy tanks (to IS-3) have been slightly more challenging, I think I've been destroyed more by them than the other Factions. IS-3 has been a tricky tank to handle, the side armour is reasonably easy to penetrate, but I had quite a bit of trouble with the frontal; again the chin of the IS-3 is supposedly the weakest, but I have not yet found a trend between shoot the chin directly or at an angle.

The T-44 maybe greater challenge to use since the tank would most likely appear in tier high8/mid9/10 games; the D-10T can handle 1-2 tier 9s (2-3 tier 8s) but more than that there would be a bit of trouble :/

A good example, I just shot directly on the back of a T32 that has 51mm rear armor, not angled or anything, this stupid cannon of course bounces. I think there is something wrong with the programming. Doesn't make sense.

I have to agree. From my experience, the guns on the russian tanks seem woefully underpowered. The amount of times my shots have bounced when aimed at the sides or the rear is just stupid. Like you said, takes forever to zoom in, you make the effort to flank the enemy, and then ping / ding / bounce etc...gg

Ofc, whenever I get shot by pretty well anything, they have penetration, take about 1/3 to 1/2 of my HP, or just take out my ammo / gun / loader etc.

No wonder everyone plays the KV, all the other guns suck until you get to the final gun on the is-3 (15k to go). It better be worth it.

Rant over. :)

Maybe try to use this 100mm gun in a "shotgun role".
Try to get close, use terrain and attack sides or rear on close distance.

T-44 with the new gun is a bit OP. Especially with its RoF, whisch is better than at German 105 L/52, even though the T-44 is a small bug and German heavy tanks are houses on tracks! And its mobility makes it hard to aim at the ammorack properly. It just stands with left side shown and you can not ammorack him instantly than.    Good penetration, DpM, alpha dmg, mobilty, the armour on all TVIII meds can't stop very much, maybe the Type can, but neither Pershing, nor Panther2, nor Lorraine, nor T-44. The T-44 lately seems very hard opponent. Under some circumstances Lorraine and Type can be harder, but...

I liked the 100mm gun a lot on the t-34-85 and actually bought it back for half the price in bonus weekend and mounted the 100mm gun again. It's nice for making good profits, for me as good as the KV. I'm definitly having nice scores now.

On the t-43 it was a decent gun, but matchmaking on t-43 makes u have hard time with it's bad accuracy it's hard to make good damage and decent profit. Now I got the t-44 with 100mm lb-1 and with the better accuracy it's definitly a lot better and more fun again. But ofcourse it's hard to do some damage on the tier 9/10 meds and heavies, aim very carefull or use HE shells a against those.

I only have the T34-85 and i love 100mm, it's a great gun for a medium tier 6 with a good punch and a reasonable fire speed. Aiming speed is a little hight but it's tolerable.

At higher tiers, the 100mm is no use at all against the front armour of virtually anything (well maybe excluding US tank hulls).
You need to flank the enemy, either up close and personal, or with the LB1 (which is pretty accurate) at range, and snipe from the side.

the 100mm ID10T gun sucks hard..it has no accuracy (my crew in T34-85 is 100%), it takes ages to aim at a target and even when fully aimed you can be sure that 2 of 5 shots will miss..it is a shame that three tanks in the techtree are equiped with this "dildo"  :(

T-34/100 packs one hell of a punch for a tier 6, but the aiming time is just kicking me in the face when i'm driving my newly acquired T-43. I have to expose myself for several seconds if i want to hit anything beyond 100 meters, and even when i'm brawling i might as well miss with it. Hopefully 100% crew will make it slightly better

Then drive slowly out of cover with one press of the "R" and the gun already in the general direction of the target, stop and you are almost instantly aimed in.

And the 100mm D10T ain't very good, but it ain't bad either up to tier 7.

Learn to aim then. Penetrating most tanks is easy, and my average damage per match of 1450+ easily backs it up.

It's an awesome gun for the T-44 once you get used to it.

Idiot gun accuracy is misleading. It feels much more accurate  than stats suggest. I am only at T43 atm  and tank is fine. Unlike KV-13 whose guns and grind was pure torture...

That gun is great!
I must say that have it on my T-34-85 and this tank for sure is money maker to me!
Only complaint I have is that aiming time, but I get use to it after a while

Especially after that recent announcement of medium tanks, I must say that I will grind to the top of this tree

Also I installed that gun rammer, just to reduce loading time for one second, which turned to be a good investment
In next period i will install on it that MK1 also, and I think that with it I will have complete money making machine.
Just don't forget that gun is  tier VII and you have it on IS, IS-3 and damage which it making is totally awesome

D10T => Horrible accuracy and lousy RoF = fail gun.

I couldn't speed through the heavies to the IS-3 and BL-9 (totally worth the grind) fast enough and until I get the T-44 and LB-1 I'll be cursing it every time I get in my T-43. It is better on the T-43 as at least the RoF is higher but goddam do I hate you D10T. It's the inaccuracy and RoF that make me want to scream, by all reports the LB-1 fixes that so I cannot wait to get there and away from these awful 100mm

The gun is great, however aimtime makes it frustrating to use...

It seems that I always bounce with this gun. Even aiming for hull and sides. It seems that I am almost guaranteed bounce every shot. I check the stats on what I am shooting at and most armor is like 100mm, yet this gun is rated at 175mm. Now I do maybe get lucky and get penetration but it is rare.

Does anybody else notice this? Am I doing something wrong? Are the game mechanics screwed up?

As a guy who fought 805 battles with the 100mm "idiot" gun on T-34-85 (50% WR), I really consider it (along with its turret) the strongpoint of T-34-85. Still decent enough for T-43, but horrible for T-44.

It's not a lack of penetration that causes the bounce. It the utter !@#$%^&* accuracy of the 100mm that makes you actually hit the side armour of that T32 (or a barn for that matter) at an <12 degree angle.
