The title says it all... do you keep a Panzer III? And should I?

I have a lot of german tanks, and keep them because I like them, for some of them the learning curve was high as hell but I managed to learn and enjoy almost every german tank in game.

The thing on this one is the gun, or the gun choice... just cant figure it out witch gun should I use. L60 (AP's) and L24(HE's). So far the L60 penetration value is ok but the damage dealt is not enough, and the L24 is even worse as I can't do a thing to enemy tanks, only manage to do criticals, bounces and extremely low damage shots.

I could use some advise, if there is anyone whiling to share precious info about how to play this tank, thanks in advance.

My panzer 3 was a good machine ,using the long cannon and getting my first top gun in it! Good armor ,speed and mobility like no other. Keep it ..I think it's the best tier 4 medium tank ,on par with the t 50,but the t-50 does it's job better as a scout. I killed easily a t-34 when in my pz 3 aiming at the lower hull...so...good luck.

It's one of the top T4 tanks and often used in Company battles. Keep it. Besides, it's so fun to drive that fast sexy machine.

Interesting fact: the Panzerkampfwagen III Aust. M (5cm L/60) is not only the top configuration but also historically accurate... with one exception... the horsepower and topspeed. According to the wiki it should be at about 40km/h and 300hp.

I'm thinking about getting this old beauty as well, because it seems to be quite an effective machine.

BTW: The Ausf. N (7.5cm L/24) was not meant to fight armor and used HEAT against tanks. You might consider loading a few of these.

Panzer III maniac reporting in! It's the best T4 tank out there along with Hetzer. I use L/60 gun loaded with 63 AP and 30 APCR rounds. Those are kinda expensive but let you fight tough opponents (you won't penetrate KV-1 or T-150 from any side with standard ammo).

My keeper-tank is the 3/4, but I find that after getting decent with it I can drive the 3 just fine.

Not a keeper for me. Chassis is fine, but the top guns are lacking.

I have been using one for a while, fun little tank... I hated it with the 50L60 gun, too low penetration, but finally came to really like it with 75L24 loaded with HE. With this gun, i can snipe if target isn't moving, or is moving in a very predictable way, and especially i can brawl all kind of opponents while doing damage, even to higher tier tanks. Killed a few T-50 and ELC with that gun, they really don't like it. Work also against higher tier tanks, you will always do some damage, and especially as it is a low velocity howitzer, it has a slightly curved trajectory that allow to hit people that can't return fire.

As to keep it, depend if you need the slot in your hangar, or not.

Yes, yes it is. Use the 7.5 sturm-troll and hunt arty. As a bonus you are a medium tank and will not get that shitty MM.

Oh hell yeah, it's a keeper; one of the nicest driver's tanks in the game. Fast, great turret traverse, and the 50mm gun is actually quite nasty; I present by way of evidence the match I just had in Cliff (had hoped for one of the reworked maps to see what's different, but ah well) where I wasn't even top tank:

9 kills, almost 4,000 XP, a nice wedge of cash and my first Cool-Headed medal (I took 48 hits and survived). This tank is great fun and one of the ones (like the StuG, Tiger H, and Jagdpanther) I would never part with.

It's a good tank, but I'm not sure if it is a keeper. I'd personally prefer a Tier 5 medium instead, like Pz3/4 or Pz4.

I mostly end up in tier 6 games and I can barely touch anyone important (VKs and KV-1S tanks).
I do my best and always hunt down those T-28s and Hetzers, but when they are down I can only hide and pray that my team will win.

Even after the HE nerf, I still enjoy driving my Panzer III with the 75mm stub cannon. I've never played this tank as a frontline tank, always flanking and aiming to kill lightly armored vehicles like light tanks and SPGs. A game I played not too long ago:

They have already nerf its armor parts less then it historically had like MG ball is much weaker than in real life or the flat part between upper and lower hull is almost 10mm thinner than in real life.

no, think it's not. unless you have insane many slots - no senseto keep it.
As for the gun - it's 75mm HE and making circles around the enemy - just like US M5. Consider yourself a fast-moving atry tier 2 :)

They nerfed it on 8.0 to 30mm turret (i think to test new phisics because 30mm+20mm mantlet = 50 )

But its ok NOW on 8.2 front turret armor historicaly upgrade to 57mm (+20mm for L60 spaced armor= 77mm).

With the historicaly average 88mm pen of the L60 will be the perfect tank, L60 need a buff, the pz3 got increased MatchMaking on 8.2 like a pz38na.

A good medium with good traverse speed and 6 speed manual gearbox ready to get premium gasoline =P that can up 70kmh

At other side the tier3 Pz3ausf A hitorically nerfed to 14mm full armor but still being a light (i think was a medium that need more life).

Fully upgraded PZIII still being a well balanced low tier medium, only needs historic pen for the L60 to reach that tier 6 tanks (for same tier battles it still piercing all).

The 75mm L24 does low damage, it needs a range explosion buff.

Saw it, new 57mm turret =) with big guns you can choose +20mm mantlet or +20mm spaced mantlet =P

I've dropped it and re bought it about 3 times now so I'd say it's a keeper and can be fun with the short 75mm firing HE at people.
