So far I haven't found anything on it but I was wondering if anyone knew whether knocking over trees and using them as cover gives you more or less camo value.

Edit: General consensus seems to be that knocking over trees increases their camo value.  Although it at the same time can also indirectly reveal your position.

Conifer trees give better camo than Normal trees with leaves. I can tell you that standing behind a fallen tree with leaves will give you camo only untill 100meters but a fallen conifer tree will give you as good camo as a thick bush, has something to do that when you knock down trees with leaves, they fall off, so camo is bad. So behind normal fallen tree you get spotted from 100 meters and above! , behind fallen conifer tree 50 meters proxy spot only.

Well, I can understand that trees might have a lower camo than some bushes.  hat I'm asking is if a tree's camo value is higher if you knock it down or leave it up.  Based on Twistoon's information it seems like knocking down a conifer tree is beneficial.

if you knock the tree down over the bush does this give a combined camo value?

From what i understood a tree only gives camo value standing up if the brances reach all the way down to the ground, so a tree with a stem first and then leaves will not give you camo while upright, it needs to be knocked over

Trees used to only give camo when they were alive, this goes for the treetops/leafes too. Some patches ago it was fixed so they remain their camo values even when fallen. So technically they give just as much camo as being hidden from line of sight by the fluffy parts when fallen.

depends on terrain. If tree's leaves are high, then you can be spotted underneath. In that case it's better to knock three over. If leaves are down to ground and cover you whole, than leave it standing.

A tree will provide the same camo as a bush.

However it has to COMPLETELY cover you in order to work. So don't stand behind a fallen sapling with your Maus and expect to be camouflaged  :Smile_veryhappy:

You obviously have NOT read the last patchnotes. They do, it was implemented in the 8.2 patch.

Alright, so it seems the general consensus is that knocking over trees increases their camo value.  Although ofc knocking down trees can also indirectly reveal your position.

Fallen trees provide camo, but less.

i always do it early in the game (first 2 min). the chance to get spotted is low and in early game it doesn't matter if the enemy see fallen trees - positions can be changed quickly.
in arty never, because if enemy arty is countering, they've got a good sign that something is there.
you can do it if you want to get, f.e. enemy arty-focus on a special place.
example: Malinovka, base capture. our team is attacking. all go western flank - don't knock down trees. eastern flank one or two tanks which knock down some trees. in this case the chance is high that the enemy will expect the attack from the eastern flank. you know what i mean?   :Smile_glasses:

its always risky and you never will be sure if somebody's watching you.

Only the leaves provide camo, the stems dont do that. So you need to knock them down in order to get a camo bonus. That doesn't applie for needled trees which usually are thick down to the ground, they give the same bonus while standing too.
