I only have a slowish internet connestion at home (2.7mbs) and at the moment it runs WOT fine on a low graphics settings on my 5+ year old system. As long as that is all i am doing on the internet.

I have just orderd a new system with much better graphics cards(twin nvidia 690`s) and a 3 monitor set up.

My question is, Will much higher graphics setting increase the ping/lag of the game play speed? (at the moment is between 35 to 85 in most cases)

Get better hardware dont change your internet speed. You are going to play the game with better graphics and high Frames/s, but your ping will be 35-85.

your wondering if the lag will increase as your thinking that there may be more data to transfer if you raise your settings.

this is not the case

the data is on your system. The server does not know your system settings.

the lag will not change.
