I played my 500th battle with SU-152 few days ago and I would like to share my feelings about this legendary vehicle.

Out of 500 battles, 499 were fought with its stock gun, the 152mm gun-howitzer ML-20.

I use HE and AP ammo only.
Ofc tried HEAT but ended up disappointed when it failed me in critical situations.

pros:
+ low profile, good camo
+ somewhat good agility and nice top speed
+ good money making ability (810 per HE shell with good dmg output)
+ 1st shot fear factor (don't expect any mercy if you miss or fail to cripple the enemy)
+ excellent fun factor (at least for me)

cons:
- horrible turning
- unreliable accuracy
- unreliable dmg output (you can expect up to 300dmg)
- slow reload
- only 330m view range
- thin armor but has quite large gun shield

My configuration:
Spoiler
I focused all equipment on gun.
EGLD is a must, same goes for rammer.
I used 3rd slot for vents. It depends on personal preferences. I use vents because it affects quite a lot of vehicle stats.
With vents, rammer and BiA, loading time is 14,61s.

This vehicle is IMO not good for serious playing (JgP is much better in all aspects) but if you like surprises and are looking for fun you will love it.

about the accuracy:
Don't expect much from the ML-20... Sometimes you will miss tank 100m away, sometimes you will be able to hit 600m distant target.
Quite standard. If you are used to soviet guns such as the D-25T, you know what I'm talking about ;)
-> one nice hit:
645m, JgPanther, oneshot:
Spoiler

about the dmg:
You can reliably expect up to 300hp with every good hit.
If you manage to hit clean thin armor and dont deal dmg to external modules (tracks, gun, optics..),
the gun will reward you with nice number jumping out of the enemy tank and you will end up with huge smile on your face.
-> few older pictures (already posted)
Spoiler
-> and a few new hits:

Nice, thanks for the good info, I bought mine a while ago, but had used all my old TD crews for other so I had to start with 75%, not a good start, so I bought back the SU-100 which will soon be elited so I will train up the crew first and then go on the SU-152 again, hopefully doing a lot of damage, so you dont think its a good idea to use the 122mm??

Depends on your playstyle.
122 is good for ambushes, side shots...
It has great RoF and nice acc. But penetration is not so great against T7+ tanks.
I would say, try it and decide :)

I use ML-20 just for joy.

I don't use the 122... in my opinion the only good thing is its fast reload.
Regarding accuracy it is more accurate then the 152, but not much, still you have crazy shots where you wonder how this could miss. So with this gun you can waste credits the fastest way.
When it isn't a miss, then still there is the penetartion randomness so when shooting against front of a tier 7 often nothing happens. Where the 152 does always dmg when it hits. After 3 battles I installed the 152 back.
There is nothing like a 400+ meter shot with 152mm on a T-50 or ELC going fullspeed which destroys or detracks it just by splash in its vincinity!

Ok, so do you think its best to train up the crew to some 50% of the first skill in the SU-100 and then move over?? At least I wasnt doing so good with the SU-152 and the crew at 75%... although I have everything reseached on it except the 122s.

You need to have at least the gunner on 100% to be able to use SU-152 properly.

Also regarding crew training in SU-100, dont forget that you need one more loader in SU-152.

SU-152 is my new love. Of course, it depends much on situation, but i feel so much powerfull and scary on the battlefield. I just had lovely battle with this awesome TD (i still don't have 100% crew and equipment):

(and by the way, such battles with this tank aren't very rare)

I will soon get there, now Im just training up the crew on the Su-100, which seems to work out quite well for me, I have never liked the turretless tanks, but it seems that I am at a level of managing them, one thing just frustrates me is the level of randoms, I seem to kill several tanks in every battle with this, last night 5 at el halluf and we lost..., I have a killrate of about 1.3 with over 100 battles but the winrate is only 48,6%, but as I said in post mortem mode yesterday to the others, "you just keep on loosing and doing nothing and my killrate just keeps on growing...", I feel so sad for the below average random player, those with under 1000 ER and killrate from 0.3-0.8, I just cant wait to get into the SU-152 and start knocking on some armor...

i myself tried the derp in like 5-10 games and i never got the hang of it, although you end up at about the same damage number on the average game i didnt like the random factor on the HE (heat is just too expensive)

i myself used the top 122mm gun and after finishing the grind to ISU in 128 games and 63% win its the tank with my highest winrate (looking at tanks with more than 100 games)

the 175 pen where enough for me to pen most T8 tanks and t9 is nothing you face every game anyway, so i was fine with the 122

for me its a very well balance ambush td with good firepower, no matter which gun you take

When do you use HE and when do you use AP? I've tried the 152 mm, but my performance with it is so bad I am allways forced to go back to the top 122 mm.

90% of my shots are HE.
I only use AP when Im in good position and my target is distracted by someone else.
Good targets for AP shells are tigers and panthers.

for example:
152mm AP, 492m, Tiger, sideshot, blown up

and here:
Tiger, 2 AP shells, frontal hit, 763 + 687x

While I like that tank pretty much, I find the gun mantlet becoming extremely unreliable and that makes it even more vulnerable. You are more or less only useful if you stay in positions where you're hidden. Also I feel like the normalisation nerf made partial usage of gold ammo necessary if you land in a t9 battle.

Apart from that I'm using the D-25 mod. 44 and I love it, your DPM is just godlike.

Do you use HE against tier 9 aswell?

The slow reload on the 152 mm makes me overall deal less damage per game compared to the top 122 mm. And the awefull accuracy doesn't help either. HE shells normally do around 200-400 damage. But looking at the battle results, I often see that a single shell that dealt only 300 damage sometime can cause even 3 criticals...  :Smile_trollface-3:
I'm thinking it might be better if I had the Deadeye skill to increase the probability of criticals with the 152 mm, and BIA to help out reload time, but crew skills are currently only at 88% for the first one. I might add that my top crew was moved to SU-100M1, which probably is the TD I have enjoyed the most so far in the russian TD tree.

That JP is most luck hit I ever saw.  HE hasnt pen to frontaly take out JP. This is direct hit to roof over very long distance...lucky.

Im using HEAT and have far more DPB and far less victory rate. Are you platooning? Or just very lucky on teammates.   152mm is really inaccurate and not many shot goes to dot.  Not keeper.

I've thrown on the final gun and it's transformed this tank. The 152 is fun but it's way to much of a lottery with damage. It does seem seem to like one shotting kv1s' front on though. However other times its damage output is just a let down. Particularly if you need to finish off a tank that's making a bee line for you. With the final gun I'm throwing down a shot every 6.3 seconds.

This is just insane for a Tier 7... :Smile-hiding:

I just bought it and i'm still playing with the first gun but this tank already shows potencial!
