A meteor streaked across the sky over Russia's Ural Mountains on Friday morning, causing sharp explosions and reportedly injuring more than 500 people.

Luckily noone was killed or seriously injured.

The russian media on this is fantastic.

Quote 1:  A spokesperson for the Urals regional Emergency Ministry center claimed it sent out a mass SMS warning residents about a possible meteorite shower. However, eyewitnesses said they either never received it, or got the message after the explosion had occurred. The Emergency Ministry has since denied sending out the SMS warning, and said the spokesperson that spread the false information “will be fired.”

Quote 2: According to unconfirmed reports, the meteorite was intercepted by an air defense unit at the Urzhumka settlement near Chelyabinsk. A missile salvo blew the meteorite to pieces at an altitude of 20 kilometers, local newspaper Znak reported quoting a source in the military.

Ofcourse. Russia has antiair that hits meteorites noone knows about, travelling at 30km/s ready and armed. That's just excellent. And they are invisible aswell. :Smile_great:
