After the 2nd World War the Americans gave its allies a lot of surplus equipment, including giving us some Chaffees.

So that leads to the question "Were the Chaffees in British service ever modified enough for them to appear in our Tech Tree?"

Exactly, the Chinese already have the Stuart.

We'll be getting our own lend-lease line with the M3 Grant and M4 Sherman. Why not the Chaffee as well?

It'll at least fill the high-tier light tank that the British tree is currently lacking.

Because One thing Britain had during the period is loads of Light tank designs, so we don't really need it on our tech tree.
Add in its soon to go the way of the VK2801 and get re-balanced in light of higher tier US tanks arriving.

I can see it entering as a Premium light tank though, that might not be the worst idea I ever heard.

The American Chaffee sits at tier V and doesn't lead to anything. A light tank following the Grant and sitting at the same tier as the Sherman would be a nice addition to the tree.

Personally I'd prefer a Scimitar prototype any day over the Chaffee, although that may be out of the timescale. There is the FV301 I guess. It's 77mm is pretty much the Chaffee's gun but better.

But as of right now, we don't have any high tier lights. It's just that a re-skinned Chaffee wouldn't take that much time compared to making a new tank.

Could always aim for a tree with both in the mixture. It could work well as an addition from the lend-lease lights.

Not yet.

There's a few high tier Lights that seem to be planned, such as the M41. At tier V on the lend lease tree is the Sherman. So you'd have M2>M3 Stuart>M3 lee/Grant>Sherman>Firefly. That seems the most logical based on information we currently have.

The only way around that would have to be a split at the M3 Stuart, now while the British did use M5 Stuarts, the only alteration we did to them was to Jaolopy them when their gun became useless. Now wile that'd make a pretty awesome scout, you'd still be in Tier 6 games with a .50 cal. Equally the British didn't actually make any changes to the Chaffee, that I can recall. So what are the turret and gun upgrades going to be?

Yet the idea of "Better than stock, worse than elite" fits nicely here. Worse gun and turret from the elite Chaffee, but premium income, softer matchmaking and looks nicer.

I honestly just don't see how the Chaffee will fit into the LL Tech tree. Unless the Sentinel gets called a Light and stuck in at tier IV, which I doubt!

They also have the Agrimotor and M4 Sherman with 90mm gun in those icons.

The Chaffee is an awesome tank which I'm working my way towards atm, but from my understanding (I'm a bit of a noob so might be well off here) the Cromwell is very similar. Admittedly my only experience of the Cromwell was watching Jingles playing it on the 8.1 test server previews, so it might have changed a lot, but I'm sure I remember him making the comparison.

Well it was the british that named it "Chafee" so I think it would fit in their tech tree but preferably a higher tier light tank option premium or not

Chinas tree was created from spit, twigs and a reskinning of existing models to keep the Chinese crowd amused.

Because there were no Chinese tanks worth a dam, ditto Japans tanks when that one gets conjured up.

Britain already has a large stockpile of real, prototype and imaginary tanks. Its tree doesn't need bulking out with shamelessly cloned tanks from other nations.

Very true. When it should clone a tank from another tree is when the British did something worthwhile to it and it gains and loses but makes it different and - well, British. The perfect example is the Firefly with the gun change and super think mantlet it adds but also where they nicked the space of one crew member to fill with ammo and added an extra hatch. Gains and losses in equal measure make this a very British tank design.
