Greetings :honoring:

I am from South Africa and I play on the NA server. The reason for intruding on your forum is that my wife and I are planning a trip to Europe and would like to ask you good folk what would be interesting places to visit. We both are very interested in history from all periods but especially the medieval period. I am very interested in armoured vehicles. :playing:

Also just generally cool places to visit. Would love to see the culture of your countries. The countries that we are planning to visit are Portugal, Spain, France, Switzerland and Germany. Unfortunately we don’t have the time, or the money, to visit all of them. Maybe on the next trip.

Thanking you all in advance. :great:

In Spain there are militar museums, but there is few material after the Spanish Civil War (1936-1939). The Naval Museum is at Madrid and the Air Museum is at Cuatro Vientos, a militar airfield near of Madrid. The Land Militar Museum is at the Alcazabar, in Toledo. There are more militar museums over all the country.

More information at http://www.ejercito....tml?__locale=en (official web of the Military museums in spanish)

That is true ... and it isn't far from Dresden.

I visit the CSSR quite a lot for food, beer and tabacco. I love Czech beer. (its mostly a little less strong then our german beer, so one could drink more.)

Well, every country in EU have something to show u.

U can visit my country which is one of the oldest in Europe - Bulgaria which is formated/created in 681 year.  It may be poor & small country ,but... :)
http://www.militarym.../eng/index.html - National Museum of military  in our capital city - Sofia
Also some ships & helicopters etc. in Naval museum in Varna  - http://www.museummar...om/eng/eng.html
http://www.shipkamus.../en/monument-en - National Park-Museum  "Shipka" where u can see some weapons, uniforms, other items/artifacts etc. and of course amazing view (because this museum is in the mountains.)
At all there is many things that can be seen in our country, not only military things.

Also you can visit Greece - they have amazing culture too.
Italy, Spain, Deutschland (Germany), Romania .. well .. As I say - every country in Europe have something to show u, his own culture, history etc.

Good luck!

Hey GK. If you travel to germany, check out the German Naval Memorial at the village Laboe close to the city Kiel. Its directly at the east sea, very nice
place with beach, ocean and many small comfortable hotels. The naval memorial is not the only interesting spot for military enthusiasts, there is also
a museum and a real submarine open for visitors, its a Type VII C built in 1943 by Blohm&Voss (only existing submarine of that type nowadays).

Panzermuseum Munster is a MUST for tank fanboys btw, you probably want to spend a full week there if you are there first time!
Wish you a good trip and good weather ;D

I think you should visit Carcassonne - I think one of the largest and best-conserved medieval castles in Europe. It's just near the Spanish-French border, quite close to a motorway. A beautiful place to see is also Grimaud in Provence, or even the whole region.

"must see" cities in general:

London
Vienna
Prague
Venice/triest
Munster
Rome
Paris
Barcelona

And there are lot of big an small museums about history to visit but for me one of the best is the Naturhistorisches Museum (Museum of Natural History), Kunsthistorische Museum (Museum of Art History) & Technisches Museum (Technical Museum) in Vienna
http://en.wikipedia....orisches_Museum
http://en.wikipedia....orisches_Museum
http://de.wikipedia....hes_Museum_Wien

There is also the Heeresgeschichtliche Museum (Military History Museum) in Vienna with some real tanks to visit
http://en.wikipedia....htliches_Museum

For medieval, there are a lot of castles in Austria/Slovenia/Czechia to visit.
Also some Festivals (history in general):

Hi there,

the latter would send you straight to Portugal and France, cities like Obidos and Carcassone make the medieval age come alive today.

WW2 stuff is all over the place, the one spot I still consider "secret" would be Peenemuende in Germany:
http://www.peenemuen...x.php?id=40&L=1

The secret weapon construction & testing site from Werner von Braun illustrates the idiocy of that times in a way no history book could do.

Have fun!

Awesome! You guys were not joking. Europe does have so much to offer and just from what has been mentioned I dont have enough time to see eveything    Definately going to have to visit again.

I had no idea that they had a real U boat that you could go inside! That is a must and the Panzer museum at Munster, have heard a lot about that.

Thanks for all the info guys :great:

Well, as I'm from Sweden, I don't really know what to recommend, we have a large variety of museums and such, but mostly about the 16th, 17th and 18th century.
It hurts to say this, but if you want to experience some fantastic nature and scenery, you should visit Norway and their fjords, stunningly beautiful!

Of course there is some amazing landscape in Sweden as well, and I'd like to point out the West coast as well as the middle parts with lots of lakes and forests.

Don't know where you're heading in Europe, but just north (A train line runs past it) of London is this place:
http://www.mountfitchetcastle.com/

Its a bit different from most "Castle museums", and so is possibly worth a look.

Equally if you carry on up the line you have Duxford, which has a fairly nice selection of Tanks (including the ones from the Imperial War Museum London while its being renovated).

I can't believe you guys haven't mentioned Bruges yet. As a proud member of the Belgian nation I have to add this city. It's quite famous for being a medieval like city, it's called the venice of West-Europe for a reason. It has alot of history, beautiful medieval buildings, and alooot of pubs and cafés (the belgian pub) to taste all those hundreds of splendid Belgian beers ;).
