We got a bad run with armour in WW2 but some of our kit was effective. Always had a soft spot for Matilda.

If it was good enough for Granddad, it's good enough for me... Even if he did lose an eye from an 88 shell...

Weird, I thought it was 5th Panzer Division and not 7th that had the beating by Matildas.  :amazed:

http://en.wikipedia....of_Arras_(1940)

If I remember right, some panzer units were sent to reinforce them, so one of them might have been the 5th. Plus on the British side the one of the Divisions was the 5th Division, at least in the overall plan.

sry guys hard to say this, but Article sounds like fairy-tale.
The used sources are not critical analysed, so a blurred picture was painted.

The value of the tank and the performance of the BEF is beyond question, but in detail too much lurid language - pls more facts.

Interesting material, putting ( maybe too strongly ? ) emphasis on the success of this gallant attack; though presenting perhaps some gaps. For instance, after the british attack stopped dead, the germans did not just recover slowly;  A german counterattack pursued the retreating british troops but was mysteriously unsuccessful.
"Upon hearing of the counterattack, Hitler ordered a halt"... The counterattack at Arras occured on the 21st of May, the halt order on the 24th, and the reason(s) for the the latter are subject to debate among historians, are they not ?

As for "popular history", well, you seem to have done some research; Why not give it Justice, whatever happens ? Or are you too Dunkirk spirited ? :D
