the gun is quite awesome when spamming HE, doing 150 damage to BDR's

also, the stats simply say the top speed the suspension can take is 50 km/h, not this tank will do 50 km/h all the time  :hiding:

The top speed is a nice joke of Wargaming. Give a tank a 50 km/h speed limit. Giving it power to do 20.
Good thing is that it really speeds up downhill, giving it decent ramming capabilities.

On one hand I suffer bad w/l ratio in this,
on the other I really like this ducky.

But I think we all should combine forces to have WG give this tank the appreciation it needs:

the 220 PS engine it should have gotten according to http://www.chars-fra...d=704&Itemid=36

Also it deserves a classification as a medium tank
so it could at least be used in company battles.
It would still suffer against Matilda and Hetzer but at least it would be worth a thought.

I kept my AMX40 for a looooong time because I liked it unusual looks and it rocked when top tier. But it was only to tier for 20% of the games, the rest wast just painful. And with the brits like the Matilda or TDs having no prob penning him I sold it.
If WG gives it some usable speed or fixes the pen of the French 47mm guns (they were very efficient weapons, and not the peashooters we know ingame), perhaps I will buy him again.

I've found out how you can reach 50km/h..... drive off a cliff. It does have to be a very tall cliff to pick up the required speed.... or if you start on a down hill slope and take a runny that helps too.

Seriously, can anyone tell me why this tank ain't a medium? Is it possible to scout in this thing as I'm sick of the torrent of abuse I'm getting from TD's for not being up there lighting up the enemy with my stealth on an open map?  :teethhappy:

The AMX 40 would need max tier 5 matchmaking and a better engine.

Well you can reach the 2nd thing by platooning with a Pz3 or any other fast tier 4 tank. Its a lot of fun in tier 4 matches :P

Worst tank ever, not even its-funny-how-bad-it-is, just pure please-kill-me every match. Only good thing about this tank is to take it for a spin when you want to make yourself stop playing WOT.

I play this game for a really long time and this is the first time I post on the forums, thats how bad it is.

Trying this pile of scrub for the 3rd time, this time with a decent crew (~250%). It's just as bad as before. Still gets obliterated by t4 TDs, some T3 TDs, and Matildas (only braindead special Matilda drivers that use the derp gun can die to the crazy Duck).

I love the looks and camo patterns of the AMX40, but thats just about it. It's a real disaster tank.

Well trolled, dear Devs, well trolled

I think I can sum the Amx40 up with some new angles. My main point here is: You can make the Duck work! but it is not up to your driving - it is up to your supporting cast.

1. for random play - it is the worst tier 4 tank to have, because it is SO situational. In comparison, the M3 Lee is limited, but it can shoot rapid fire, can hit, can penetrate and can sort of shift around - so it is an Ok second line tank. The Duck can do non of that. The duck is a horrible sniper (gun...), a terrible supporting tank (can't flank, low dpm) and doesn't succeed as a front line fighter (not alone).

2. The Duck has only 2 things going for it - armor and OK gun depression. The later is almost useless.

3.  A non supported duck is a hopeless duck, that gets murdered by tier 3 tanks on even terms.

It can be a very very effective tank, one of the best around - actually. But it is not up to your fighting skills - it is up to your social skills:

If you can arrange for 2-3 supporting tanks to come with you, support you as you lead the way (T-28s are great for that) - than the Amx40 can be an unstoppable monster of a tank. Charge down a city street - angle your armor right and you'll bounce everything below 70mm penetration easily (Duck vs. Duck shootout with no results is a common scene). If you angle good - even tier 5 guns aren't going to hurt you all that much. Usually it doesn't matter that you can bounce - since you can't hurt anybody back and you are at the mercy of the enemy dictating the battle's rhythm - but when you have supporting cast that knows how to support a charging Duck - you win. The enemie's DPM is wasted on trying to stop you, while your fragile but punchy T-28 friends are delivering.

In my view - the only way to enjoy your time with the Amx40 is to Platoon up!

There is one good thing about duck: once you pass it you will never complain about other tanks being slow.

AMX40 is worth  s h i t  in battles with MM above its tier (5 & 6). I recently bought it back, saying "nah, will give it a chance, maybe it's fun after all". No, it wasn't. Played several matches and have sold it (WG, give me my credits back, U scums!!!). All battles were 5 & 6 tier (not a single top tier match).

When lost (most of them) it was painful, especially I fell in love being one-shotted by depr guns of M4, KV1, KV2 & Hetzer and even DW2 with it's crappy gun can pen me all the time, even if I tried to angle myself (which was difficult since every 2-3 shots my tracks were broken). It can bounce only some autocannons or tier II guns, even M3 Stuart sets AMX40 on fire!

When won I was doing nothing for the team, this sorry excuse for a tank worth a bag of horse manure (excuse to manure) is too slow to participate in any action. Yeah, 50 km/h max speed, where, when? Maybe falling from the cliff or a bridge it can do 50 km/h, even manure pops out faster out of horse's butthole...

H35 - 7 battles, 71%, very good tank.

AMX 38 - 12 battles, 25%, didn't like this one at all, it was just bad because of the gun selection.

AMX 40 - 36 battles, 56%, EXTREMELY BORING TANK.

ELC AMX - best tank of the line so far. 80 battles, 54%, very fun and cheeky lil' roach.

AMX 12t - meh so far. I must get my crew to 100% and research all modules before I can say anything about it. Very slow acceleration.

I didn't find the AMX 40 that bad, but it isn't as good as the Matilda. It was just... boring as hell. Slow, gun had a 6-7 sec reload, didn't pen a lot of things. Amour was nice only at tier IV, but even then the Matilda tanks and TDs could pen me. I find the Matilda to be more resilient. In high tier battles, the AMX 40 was bad even as a support tank (0.46 accuracy? this ain't a 122 mm  gun!)... One tip though: I grinded the tank just by playing the daily double. Didn't rush it. I knew I would get mad if I play this game after game after game... Sold it after I got the ELC. Definitely not a keeper.

when i grinded it, i played it as an arty protector/cap guardian..  provided a good shield to the arties and could achieve wounded tanks that would come to cap.
