I am generally not a moaner, and this is not really a moan, but a gripe against moaners.
As an arty player, I can tell you one thing, the arty have never really been OP. yes they do damage, yes they hurt you, yes you feel crap when they hit you when you know you were hiding in a bush back by the cap, but really, they wasnt.
I am saying this because all you really had to do was actually try to play arty. look at any decent arty player and I can guarantee that a high percentage of them have more average damage on their T10 heavies than they do on their T8 Arties.
The thing with arties is that they are and always have been a pain in the ass to play. Let me explain.
1, Find somewhere safe to shoot from.
2, hope your team can protect you from the enemy scouts incoming at start.
3, Decide whether or not you are going to spend time looking for counter tracers.
3, look at lemming train and notice you are very weak on opposing flank.
4, Try to help weak flank, while getting 'omg noob arty' from the lemming train for not helping the,
5, Shift about in order not to get countered.
6, Miss most of your shots but get some splash.
7, Weak flank has gone, wait to die with one last close range TD mode shot.
8, Rinse and repeat.

This my fellow tankers is the life of an arty in randoms, it really is no cakewalk, no free ride to massive damage.

WG however do love to listen to moaners that got their little tank touched by the big arty, because there were so many of them.
Next time you get your ass handed to you by an arty, because you are sitting in the open, like a gimp, don't moan about the arty, check his damage after the game, check his shots to pens. I can guarantee he didn't have a free run of damaging every tank he wanted to. He found you exposed and he hit you. You want this not to happen again, so you instead moan about the arty, instead of adapting and improving your gameplay. Multiply this rant by 1000 and we have an issue. Forget the fact that arty have 30% or so average hit ratio, compared to a heave at 80%, but doing maybe 50% more dmg per shot. This is not important. People that dislike arty, need to play them, no, not to hummel, but to top tier. Then and only then are their opinions valid.

Show me someone with a top tier arty that thinks arty were OP in 8.5 and I will listen to him, take on his comments and ingest them.

Show me the comments of a guy that has limited play in low tier arty and I will disregard them as sour grapes.

Seriously WG, just because 1% of your userbase vocally moan about arty being OP, you do not have to ruin the damn things to the point that people will refuse to play them.

Please WG, remove arty from the game, give me back my credits and free XP I spent on them and remove them forever, as I know you will just nerf them more instead of doing the one simple thing that was needed and called for by the community and that was:

Limit the arty to a maximum of three per game.

This was all that was needed 1 year ago and now you kill the enjoyment of many players for the sake of some moaners. Well done.

you know, regular tanks have to do exactly the same things you just listed... except for that if we miss we deal 0 damage, have to keep track of multiple enemies at once at close range AND make sure we use our armor right (this goes for the enemy tanks as well) while an SPG says "lolnope, I fart on your puny armor and miss for 1k damage (yes, that's what I did to a poor T95 yesterday).

I can deal more damage per game in a regular tank than I do in an SPG but actually dealing damage with an SPG requires less work.

EDIT: I agree than arty isn't OP in itself, it's just that it's poorly implemented. Arty should be more accurate while dealing less damage and less splash. Noone really whines about how the AMX 105AM (old t4) is OP as it doesn't deal such insane damage per hit or miss, despite this it's still an effective SPG.

Heavy +1! As an SU-14 player, I just unlocked my Obj. 212 right before 8.6. Tried the 203mm on my now called "SU-14-2" and it was quite a kick in the butt. Had to sell it a few minutes ago, I was enjoying and awaiting the comming of Obj. 212 since months and in 5 minutes this all just disappeared. Even with OS tier 8/9 I still felt my SU wasn't that OP, missing shots, killed in the first 2min by scouts, etc...
The only positive change of an arty is the M37, even when I miss I find this arty hilarious, maybe it's just me but the M37 is still fun to play.

Excellent!! :) I loved Arty (hated it in the early days) but after grinding M37/Priest I found a love of it (although the grind....was horrendous! So it was awful when I loaded up my M41 (10 k off GW) and BAM.....appalling, Short barrel and grind for nothing IMO, sold it, which made me frown muchly.

I understand there has to be balance, I really do but its extreme to nerf things to death!! although I am having reasonable success now with my French arty...sort of.

All the hater threads Ive read are all "one shot kills ALL the time"...nonsense....even a "Carpet artillery blocks map" WTF?!?!?! having played it for a while and I do enjoy the games as a whole, Ill continue to play and suck it up!!! It would be great if maybe there was something to sweeten the pill, consumable price maybe?? hmmmm

Started playing the new low tier Arty purely from this quote from the developers..."However, it compensates for its sluggishness with a decently accurate gun and a very good range for its tier." ;) Im never gonna cut down my coffee intake with that reload time.

Excellent post which sums it up ZaPpeh.

It's not about being OP, it's about ruining gameplay. It just no fun to hide behind houses and rocks all game long. Since the patch and the reduced accuracy and also number of arties, gameplay became a lot more dynamic and less static. Tier 9 and 10 are again playable and you can have tank vs tank battles there, not just spotting for your teams arty and hoping they hit more than those of the other team.

The arty nerf has been a huge improvement for higher tier gameplay so far.
