Anyone playing this arty? I've already gotten quite a few battles with it, really nice piece of arty in the post 8.6 world. Quite a good balance of ROF, accuracy, splash, mobility, great gun traverse arc.

got it unlocked... is it a worthy replacement for the pre-8.6 M41?

My reaction so far is:  meh.  I've got the whole string of US arty, and I'm neither impressed nor upset at this.  I can't see myself playing it much by choice, but then arty in general can be described that way for me now.

Iam using it at the moment, basicly stock with 90-100% crew + food.

This thing is amazingly shit. 3 steps back compare to M41. Ive never raged playing spg but this thing makes me rage a lot. You will hit 1 out of 10 shots. You aim to the fullest and still will miss by 50 meters. sometimes even out of the circle. Just think about it...a more then 100% crew..hits maybe 2 out of 10 shots. nearly no slash dmg.

Some spgs are matchwinners from time to time..but this one is mostly a burden to your team.

I usually hit half of the time with my M44 with 100% crew and it's not uncommon to see me doing the most dmg on my teams.

Great tier 6 spg. Pretty close to Hummel, however I think Hummel is still better as long as the game stays short, however in a long battle M44 is probably a bit better.

Stock gun didn't feel too great, but the best one does deliver. About 19.8s reload without BiA is very nice compared to Hummel's 27s since the difference in alpha is not too massive.
While traverse is quite bad, it still does move rather fast. The stock engine is only 50bhp less than the best engine, but the difference is very noticeable in practice.

4/5, like it quite a bit. Sample game in spoilers.

I started experimenting with HEAT ammo a bit. As usual, it's hit or miss... managed to deliver 800+ dmg hit to T34, but also dinged Tiger.

it's ok I guess... sometimes I have really ok games, but most of the times I can't hit a Tiger tank that's standing still at 200m (twice) cause of the 8.6 patch

M44 is a nice piece of kit, as said before good ROF reasonable accuracy etc. I see they're having an arty competition as " since last update, we're not seeing as many arty". Not surprised, I agree something had to be done to redress the balance but most arty has been nerfed too far . Before 8.6 the little SU-26 was a very handy piece of gear but now, with the loss of the bigger cannon and loss of accuracy it's hardly worth bothering with

i have done like 12 battles in the M44 i have a hit ratio of 42,47% wich aint that bad for arty but i can tell you its damn hard aiming to get a hit with these americans its the same as the m41

su-26 was overperforming for a low tier arty so ye its only normal they changed it to that

This is a pretty bad artillery that's worse than some tier5 and tier4 artillery.

Arhhh, well, funnily enough, the M44 is the only post nerf U.S arty I could get along with and feel like almost keeping. I guess it takes all sorts to make the world go round eh?

I'm up to the M12 tier 7 now, so have the big guys to get too yet, but still have a fondness for the M44.

I really enjoyed the M12, it's still one of my favorites, but with the 32s reload, I'd rather fight the M55.  The M40 with a 40+s reload just frustrates the hell out of me.  You wait for the better part of a full minute, then miss anyway.  At least the M12 doesn't make me wait quite as long for my miss.

I totally agree, this is the first arty I have played which frequently lands shots way outside of a completely settled reticle. I am having a very hard time trying to convince myself that it is worth playing, it really is that bad. The stock M1 Howitzer was way more accurate than the upgraded M45 Howitzer and I am tempted to put it back on because if there is a gap between the edge of the aiming reticle and the tank that is where the shell will land and in most cases it won't even make any splash damage.

The M41 wasn't accurate, however it was a sniper compared to the M44. My Average Damage Per Battle for M41 is 736hp & 1.39 kills. In the M44 it is 751hp & 0.6 kills, I'm pretty sure the average damage was higher before I upgraded the gun, and most of my kills too. I played several games back to back to try and get a feel for it, however I just getting very low scores. If it carries on I will try putting the M1 back on and if that doesn't help I'll have to forget about going for the T92.

It's worth noting that after 4K games in arty my highest exp score is in the M44 - 1770 I think.

1 swallow does not a summer make I know, but at least it has that potential.

Dunno, I do over 1200 dmg with M44, really have no issues there. Accuracy is decent enough, with most issues coming when aiming reverse slopes, but that's not specific for this piece of arty.

Does the M44 get a game in Tier 6 Clan Wars? How does it compare to the Hummel and FV304? Reason I ask is that I was thinking of buying the M44 for Tier 6 CWs. I have it researched but have never played it (got the T92 before the arty tech line was expanded to Tier 10).

I already have the Hummel, so was wondering if it was worth having the M44 too.

Would the FV304 be the pick of the Tier 6 arties?

We used M44 in open maps and FV in closed maps and also combinations of those depending on the map during stage 1 of the 2nd campaign. Worked well.
Not sure if M44 > Hummel or vice versa, but I think M44 is better suited for CW especially due to its far better mobility. Also not having to worry about running out of ammo is a massive bonus as is the ~4 times wider gun arc.

If you have to pick one, take the FV, but I'd suggest picking both if possible.
