Here are the facts :-

The British were the first to introduce armored vehicles to combat in WW I. They then failed to develop them for any other purpose than as infantry support. Early use of British tanks in WW II was abject. Completely outclassed by their Axis opponents. Any form of competitiveness in tank vs tank warfare was achieved only after the British received large numbers of lend lease US tanks. Please don't quote the success of the Churchill in the Desert War etc as an indication of superior tank design. The Churchill was a brand new British design fighting in a theatre against mainly older tank designs (Pz IV etc) and did not perform effectively against Panthers or Tigers, despite the occasional success.

The French developed tanks that would be effective against German armor, but fundamentally misjudged the way that armor would be utilised by the Germans ie 'the big fist'. As a result they distributed their tanks amongst their infantry battalions, making them either not present at the fighting or hopelessly outnumbered (clever old Guderian). The Maginot line gave the French a misplaced confidence in their security and wasted a huge amount of resources trying to create a natural barrier to their neighbours, which the British have always had (the Channel kept the pesky French out). What you cannot justify saying is this :-

Do you recall hearing of a captured British tank being used by Axis forces, like the Hotchkiss etc ? Well, erm... some historical correction about Dunkirk - I´m sorry to say, but the French did not hold the Germans back long enough due to their great fighting. Simply Adolf H. denied the request for clearing the pocket, crushing the BEF. He believed that it would be possible to neutralize the British by diplomatic means.

Dasdon, as you seem to be obsessed with war memorials what do you have to say about this ?
So war memorials are vandalised every week in the UK, does that mean that the UK show no respect to their deads ?
