I love this game but, unfortunately, I'm only able to play it for about an hour a day and now that I've got to tier 6/7, the grind is starting to become unbearable.
So I started looking into premium tanks (for the free experience and extra credits they earn).
I did a search and found a few threads but they mostly dealt with one particular tank or another (mostly the Churchill...) rather than a collected guide, so here's my attempt:

Crew: All my premiums have, at least, the commander at 100% with the rest of the crew between 75% and 100% - I cannot overstate how important it is to have 100% crews with Premium Tanks, they are unplayable without them (which is why I think so many people hate them).

Premium Tanks receive increased credits per match (They have Elite status).

Repair costs on Premium Tanks are significantly reduced.

Another thing to note about premium tanks is that they are not designed to be uber! They're generally average at best and appalling at worst (yes Valentine, I'm looking at you).
They're designed to be exp/credit farms, so play them in supporting roles - For the most part, you simply wont have the fire-power to compete with same/higher tier tanks, but they tend to have quite good staying power (The RAM-II, PzKpfw 38H735 (f) and Matilda in particular,  I've also heard good things about the Churchill), so get in the fight and concentrate on tracking and module damage, let your up-gunned team-mates finish them off - You get points of damage, remember!

USA
-------

T2 Light Tank
750 Gold

Tier 2 Light Tank

Hp 150
Speed 72kph

RoF 125.00
Penetration 30/41
Damage 12/12

Hull armor 17/15/6
Turret armor 16/16/6

Average exp 362
Max exp 1500
Average credits 6000-10000

This tank is just plain hilarious, it goes 72kph!!!!  It also has a rather nice 5-shot autogun that can penetrate most T1/2 tanks (I got a Sharp Shooter award for 25 consecutive hits and a Master Gunner award for 18 consecutive penetrating hits in one battle!).
It's fast, I mean really fast!
It's real weakness is it's rear armor, which is made out of fluff.

RAM-II
1750 Gold

Tier 5 Medium Tank

Hp 610
Speed 38kph

RoF 30
Penetration 110/180
Damage 75/75

Hull armor 76/63/38
Turret armor 76/76/51

Average exp 466
Max exp 1392
Average credits 1000-15000

This is a good, fun tank - Good armor and a good, fast gun - A good solid support tank. (Yes, it's good!)

T-14
1500 Gold

Tier 5 Heavy Tank

Hp 690
Speed 34kph

RoF 18.02
Penetration 92/127/38
Damage 110/110/175

Hull armor 51/50/50
Turret armor 101/101/101

Average exp 501
Max exp 1344
Average credits 15000-20000

This is a reasonable low-end heavy - Good turret armor, low profile, a reasonable gun and it looks cool, just don't try to turn - The game will finish before you do.
Note: The next patch will be lowering the T-14s maximum battle tier by 1 so it should become more successful :)

PzKpfw 38H735 (f)
750 Gold

Tier 2 Light Tank

Hp 160
Speed 37kph

RoF 30
Penetration 41/64/18
Damage 40/40/45

Hull armor 34/34/34
Turret armor 45/40/40

Average exp 427
Max exp 1342
Average credits 6000

This is a fun tank - It's a tier 2 heavy!
Very slow but heavily armored. It has a very nasty gun with a high RoF and seeing as you'll only ever come up against tier 1-3 tanks, you tend to rule.

S35 739(f)
1000 Gold

Tier 4 Medium Tank

Hp 300
Speed 37kph

RoF 31.58
Penetration 55/90/24
Damage 52/52/62

Hull armor 36/35/25
Turret armor 56/46/46

Average exp 264
Max exp 499
Average credits  8000

This tank is ok.  Ok armor, fast gun, good maneuverability but slow acceleration.
It's fairly ineffectual against same tier tanks but performs well against lower tiers, which is handy as it's tier will be lowered to 3 in the next patch.

B2 740 (f)
1250 Gold

Tier 4 Heavy Tank

Hp 400
Speed 30kph

RoF 31.58
Penetration 55/90/24
Damage 52/52/62

Hull armor 60/60/55
Turret armor 56/46/46

Average exp 321
Max exp 480
Average credits  9000

Very much like the S35 but a bit bigger.

Valentine
1000 Gold

Tier 4 Light Tank

Hp 340
Speed 32kph

RoF 30
Penetration 51/84/23
Damage 47/47/62

Hull armor 60/60/60
Turret armor 65/65/65

Average exp 273
Max exp 1252
Average credits 6000

Shit! Slow, Crap armor, pointless gun (even with premium shells).
The only plus point I can find with this tank is that it turns incredibly fast on the spot, I haven't, however,  worked out how that actually helps...

Matilda
1500 Gold

Tier 5 Medium Tank

Hp 520
Speed 25kph

RoF 18.46
Penetration 86/102/38
Damage 110/110/156

Hull armor 75/70/55
Turret armor 75/75/75

Average exp 450
Max exp 1462
Average credits 12000-18000

I haven't played this tank much but I like it, I like it a a lot.
It's very slow but makes up for it with good armor and a wicked gun.

Churchill
1500 Gold

Tier 5 Heavy Tank

Hp 700
Speed 28kph

RoF 30
Penetration 110/180
Damage 75/75

Hull armor 101/76/64
Turret armor 88/76/76

Average exp
Max exp
Average credits 10000-20000

Much like the Matilda, this is a very slow tank but has lots of armor and a stupidly fast gun (which makes up for it being a bit weak) - a good solid support tank.

Conclusion - My personal favorites are the T2 Light Tank (NFS with guns!), the RAM-II (Jack of all trades) and the Matilda ("It simply Will. Not. Stop!").  They're the most fun out of the bunch and for my style of play (support), the most successful.
Premium Tanks aren't for everyone (they’re not indestructible, one-shot deathmachines) but it's nice to 'putput' around the battlefield without worrying about repair/ammo costs or whether you'll win enough exp/credits for that next module. Plus, you tend to be a lower priority target as people think all Premium Tanks are crap:)

They can also be very helpful when you're grinding through the lower tiers as credits are more important than experience at that point in the game.

P.S. Do not, under any circumstances, even consider the possibility of thinking about getting a Valentine.

P.P.S. No... Seriously, don't.

(Edit: Changed Valentine to Light Tank.  Cheers DieWith)

nice guide, tho the valentine is a tier 4 light tank. :)
Matilda rocks, but would be better if it were faster, haven`t tried any other yet, but i`ve heard T-14`s worth the gold, cheers for the guide anyway. :)

Premium account gives you 50% more xp and credits, not premium tanks... premium tanks pros are low upkeep cost, no exp to unlock it and elite statut, but they don't give you 50% more xp/creds >.>

Really? Cheers for the correction :)  Though they do make more money than same-tier tanks (I regularly make 10k credits a match in my tier 2 T1 Light tank ;) )

xp/creds is related to how good you perform, so if you perform better with it you make more creds, and the upkeep is lower so you make more benefit, I don't think they give more creds / xp than a normal tank, but I don't claim knowing everything so maybe I'm wrong, I'll try to check. Did you base this on a reliable source ?

"Premium tanks are more economical to use" or some such is one of the game tips in loading screens.

Basically, I have understood it as, the repairs are cheap, ammo is cheap, and you (might) make a bit more credits for the same effort as you would in a non-premium tank of same tier.

Why do the Soviets have British tanks as their premiums?

They're lend-lease tanks, sent to Russia by the British to bolster the Russian forces.

I tried the T2 light two times, sold it again after a few other days.

That thing is not worth being called a tank, its a lamborghini with a peashooter!

However, zipping around in that tanky is fun, yes. BUT you have hard times to fight anything of your tier. The turret is too slow for the tanks speed and the gun struggles penetrating PzIIs and especially 35(t)s. Pz38(h)? Dont even try!

If you want a tank that kills stuff, dont get the T2 light. The 38(h) is much better. Even if its really enjoyable to drive the fastest thing around its not satisfying since you get killed by loltraktors easily and if you dont focus on driving and crash into some other tank... well then you have a folded origami tank.

Just my 2 cents

The german premium light tank is sort of like what the IS-4 and T54 are for people in tier 9. bounces allmost everything trown at it.
T2 light tank is fast but dies a horrible death once someone hits it.
valentine... is a free kill :P

I wonder why this tank is using 45mm gun... Standard LL Valentines had either 40mm, 57mm(very similar to the one installed on RamII) or even 75mm gun...

Have T2 Light, 38H and Ram II and am satisfied. Each of them is fun in its specific way. Ram is durable and has insane ROF, while being pretty maneuvrable. 38H is a slowly rolling, death-dealing Maus of Tier II and T2 is Formula 1 race car with 20mm, capable of dealing massive damage inb Tier 1/2 battles.

The only one I had was the Churchill and well ... most of my battles I'm the one at the top and often I get more then enough kills, so playing at its tier the Churchill really is something worth but coming against IS-3 or so ... well 1-2hit is not what you'd like to feel as a heavy xD

Which Soviet preimum is the better choice - Churchill or Matilda? or the same cost, Chruchill seems stronger to me.

Churchie has strong armor and insane RoF, Matilda has HE.
I bought Matilda. It's... Adequate, but doesn't have that spark 38H, T2 Light and Ram have.

So Church it will be after the wipe, as I need a Soviet Premium to train my crews.
