Minoson's Compressed Texture Packs
and Suggestions to boost FPS

Minoson has allowed me to share his amazing post with you. Most files, and suggestions are from Minoson, so all credit goes to him. Minoson has compressed the textures and compiled a bunch of fixes to improve performance on low-end computers.

If, in your settings, "texture quality" is set to "low" and/or you have 1GB of RAM, then it is suggested to use the textures of 50% quality - they look better than the original ones on low settings.If your RAM is lower, or battles are taking too long to load - try the 25% or 12% packs.

Warning! Remember to always make backups before changing the game files.

Key:
50% compression - texture sizes 4 times smaller than originals.
25% compression - texture sizes 16 times smaller than originals.
12% compression - texture sizes 64 times smaller than originals.


Automatic installer
The Automatic Installer of the minimal packs is only available for the Russian version for now, If you wan to see the installer, see Minoson's original post: Пак с пережатыми текстурами и т.п.. Will update as soon as/if we get an English Installer.


0.6.3.8 Update
Pack contains the updates or new files from the 0.6.3.8 patch, select which files you want replace and extract them to World_of_Tanks\res\

Other Fixes
Checked and reassembled the pack by Storm from here for the current version.
Divided into parts, the archive has a folder "res" with the fixes and "res_orig" with the originals. Copy the folder "res" to World_of_Tanks\

Intro Movie Clip
To remove the intro movie clip rename the following file:
World_of_Tanks\res\gui\flash\video\Logo_All.usm

Background and awards
To remove the background and awards rename the following files:
World_of_Tanks\res\gui\flash\login_bg2.tga
World_of_Tanks\res\gui\maps\award.tga

Clouds
Did repack Storm's files because teh same effect can be achieved by renaming the folder \res\maps\skyboxes\

Track traces

Scope Shadow
To lower the FPS loss when going into Sniper Mode can be accomplished by replacing the file res\gui\flash\ScopeShadow.swf with this one: http://www.mediafire...8bzj6965gssn56y (credit goes to Tinkerer)

Preferences.xml
Editing the Preferences.xml file allows for fine-tuning setting not available through the settings menu in the game.

Warning! Do not give your Preferences.xml file to anyone as it contains login information.

The file Preferences.xml in found in
Windows 7: C:\Users\User name\AppData\Roaming\wargaming.net\WorldOfTanks (AppData folder is hidden by default)
Windows XP: C:\Documents and Settings\Admin\Application Data\wargaming.net\WorldOfTanks (Application Data folder is hidden by default)
In order to gain access to AppData(without changing the system settings) for Windows 7/Vista (or Application Data for Windows XP), open My Computer and write %appdata% in the address bar. Or by going to Start->Run and typing %appdata%

The program WoT Booster by NEOx will clear memory on demand and may help those experiencing problems with memory leaks

Recommendations

• In Windows XP set the priority to "low". Lowers lag and doesn't effect vital system processes. Tried setting the priority to "high" - feels like ping jumped up to 500+

  So the game starts automatically with a low priority:
  Create a shortcut to the file WorldofTanks.exe
  Right mouse click on the icon and go to Properties, in the field "Target:" insert the following line (of-course the game folder should be the one that you have):
  cmd.exe /c start /low /D "G:\World_of_Tanks\" WorldOfTanks.exe
  Press OK, and launch the game through this shortcut.
  
  
  
• For processors with 2 or more cores set the game to use the core not being used for system processes. Done through the Task Manager. Effect and reason the same as the above recommendation. To accomplish this, when you have the game running, go into the task manager(CTRL+ALT+DEL for XP, CTRL+SHIFT+ESC for Win7) and right click on the WorldofTanks.exe choose "Set Affinity..." Uncheck CPU0 to leave it for system processes. May have different effects depending on the system.
  
  
• To increase FPS delete Pixel and Vertex shaders. Go to the folder World_of_Tanks\res_bw\shaders\ and rename the folders pixelshaders, shimmer and all starting with xyz. (Thanks to mazdaj for the suggestion, but yet unproven)

PS. - I will continue to work with Minoson to update this for new patches and new suggestions. I haven't tested everything here yet, so let me know if there is a problem. And post any suggestions that you may have, so I can add them to the list. Preferences.xml may be a bit outdated, will improve/text them as I go. Please don't post it on the EU forum until I do so I can keep them both in sync

Those are very sweet  options for those that doesn't got a powerful pc. But for those like me, we need to tell the game that it can use more than 2GB RAM, as written in the very useful post belov.

thank you very much my man it works i did them.

good work, i have downloaded 50% pack of map textures, object textures and effect textures. Works fine, loading time is now little faster, and i dont have problem with out of memory error when high textures are set. But there is a problem with surface reflections on some maps.

i found some differences in directories.

in map pack 50%.
\res\maps\landscape

there is no map westfeld

\res\maps\skyboxes
the same problem  and Hungar_sky

in object small differences in directories
BuildingsRare and Environment.

but  map and skyboxes for map   i found in update pack..only hungar_sky i dont see there

P.S. I made some Setup 12-50% (contains all textures) (too large for mediafire) and 12-25% (contains 12-25% map objects tank textures).

My program for resizing textures

It doesnt get rid of smoke, it replaces it with many little red squares saying texture not found

is this still good? on latest version of the game?
