Awful tank and extremely painful grind. All tier IV tanks are like that: M3 Lee, A-20...

The weird thing is, thinking back to the beta, I actually found the Lee easier to grind than the T-28.

That's true. Lee actually has some armor and an accurate gun.

But I still don't get why I keep losing so much with this tank. Seems to me that if the matchmaking was fair to me I should win 50% of the time no matter what I do.

Yeah awful tank its really the coffin for seven comrades... i went in the t34-85 path in russian tree during beta and didnt bother with the kv/is path. Having now tried almost all t4 tanks (the one i'll never test is the m3 "giant weakspot" lee), and, altough pzIIIa and pzIII are a pain in the ass to grind, its even worse with this glass canon.. I shall survive like one on five (even more?) matchs with this "communist coffin" , but, i admit the gun is fun, its almost a golden gun for the tier ^^

The problem is: since there are so many M4A2E4s and other Premium/Bonus tanks in the Tier IV battles yet, the T-28 with its thin armor is in a bad situation.
Later, if there are more other, more normal Tier IV and V tanks in the battles, the T-28 will shine more.

And at least you can use it to block bridges and bottlenecks easily with him ;)

I love the 85mm gun it swats light tanks with ease and is great for sniping on some maps.

I just started using this
Its the stock deal with 50% crew

So far this toaster is pure and utter drivel
In fact I would rather be riding a toaster

I just had a fight with a Leo and I was right there, two feet away from him
and not one of my 3 shots did any damage. He killed me easily. It was embarrassing.

NOT looking forward to the grin in this hullock of commie crap

I may post again and report f things improved as I added bits to it

OH, and I just die. Its like turning up to a fancy do with your tuxedo but
you have brown shoes on...

Gun really makes huge difference in this tank, once you've got 85mm its much better and smoother to play, before it's real pain, also remember to use speed to your advantage, this tank is suprisingly fast for such a large frame, also acceleration in this vehicle is good so change your firing positions often.

So far in around 7 games I havent killed anything.

Well, it's a couple of kilometers faster than the Hetzer but behaves completely different. Whereas the Hetzer is a dog out of the box, this tank accelerates and turns like a Porsche even with a 50% crew. The reason? This tank in-game weighs almost half of what it actually did.

Also it has fantasy insane gun choices, compare with the equal tier PzII - which mounts the historical long 50mm or the stubby 75mm - none of those come even close to the machine gun ZiS-57 or the 85mm.

I'm seriously thinking of getting the T-28, grinding it just enough so I can research the KV, then get all the needed money elsewhere (German TDs are my next objective after the Russian Heavy tree).

Hmm... I have time, still in my T-46, halfway to the T-28. The Marder is a great moneymaker, though.

Well, altough grinding with the T28 is a pain, once you have the 86mm gun it become playable and enjoyable. But you have to make a critical choice: grind asap the kv and forget the magic gun, or get the magic gun first then achieve kv. I choosed the first one, but still played it to elite to see whats going on with the magic gun, and, so far, sometimes, i forgot i'm in a t28 a think i snipe with my pwnzer iv sniper mode. Ennemy quickly make me notice i'm not in a pwnzer...

I cant tell wich is faster, really. Maybe going for the good gun might be better => more enjoyment playing the coffin for 6 comrades.

As for bridge bloking, tank trapping (works well in urban maps, with cornered campers/td's), and such lame tactics, its perfectly viable, even more than with a kv, since the t-28 is longer than the kv (!) Do it only if the odds are against your team, otherwise you shall not enjoy staying doing nothing but waiting to die (and try to bring at least one guy before dying :P ) on that bridge. Havent stayed in such battle when i die, but i know we won some of those "already lost" games, and in some cases i know that's because that freakin' heavy would have to redo all the trip backward to either go defend or attack, especially in the map with center island (forgot exact name).

Ok so a bit of a running commentary here from a new T-28 driver.

So far I have

Commander 75%
gunner 75%
Driver 75%
rest of crew 55%

I have paid the 20k credits to up the skills of my crew.
(incidentally Im playing for free at the moment, so no gold)

I have all upgrades except for the 85mm F-30
I will of course get that as soon as I can

I have killed two tanks at the most and that must be at least 15 matches.
Just now I went head to head with a Hetzer. I got off two shots, not a single
percentage of damage on him. He takes one shot at me and im out. Game before that I take
on a T46. 2 shots he takes me out. I landed at least three on him and hes still left
with over 60% health.

Im still hoping for better, we shall see.

If I may comment t-28 is excellent support tank(best at this job in t4) but it's poor brawler(too thin armor for that), try to stick with teammate who have more resilient vehicle and you'll fare much better, it's really too dangerous to "duel" on this tank because 1 mistake can often mean death.

What do you think about the 57mm? On paper it should be a better gun for someone who's just grinding to a KV, since it costs half the exp and money.

^Exactly my point. And besides, the KV is about ~330k Credits, how I remember. So, without Premium, you'll have to go for a minimum of... 80 matches, maybe more? Now, add the part where you lose and where you win, since the EXP/Credits amount is more than different.

Having 50 losses and 29 wins with 1 draw in this thing won't make the grind as easy, if you try to complete the grind with the stock T-28. Getting that better gun increases the chances of killing an opponent of your own tier(ie. Hetzer by how much, approximately?

And still, even with stock, you can't do much as a support vehicle since you'll get "That one bounced!" in most cases, which is what happened to me when I ground it to the KV (That time I had the credits available, just needed the EXP with a little help from Free EXP)

So if I even decide to play with it, I'll choose getting the gun first, since this generally appears as a thinking tank (think more about what you'll do, where you'll hide, what strategy you will use, ...) than a stress-less one.

Theres something seriously wrong with this tank.
I'm getting ready to abandon this line.

Average XP 100
Credits 2000

Its just Fu***ing useless.
I cant damage a thing with this
Every shot bounces or just does nothing...

You'r using last gun upgrade? With earlier guns I can agree but last one can kill KV-3 and damages most stuff without problem unless shooting from unfavorable angle.
